1. Field of Invention
This invention relates to painting tools that are used to paint, stain, dust, polish, strip, sand, clean, wipe off & apply chemicals (liquid and powder) to the surface area of objects comprising of bars, posts, poles, shafts, spindles, railings, and columns in addition to flat surfaces such as walls.
2. Description of Prior Art
The popular method of painting, staining, dusting, polishing, striping, cleaning, wiping off & applying chemicals to the surface area of multisided objects is to use a standard brush that has a handle at one end and brush material pointing 180 degrees straight out of the opposite end of handle or using a standard paint roller that has a handle located 90 degree to the roller cover. With the current methods one is restricted to holding a painting tool at one angle which is limiting when you are painting a multisided object. Some painting tools have adjustable rollers to paint multisided objects but when there is an interior corner or a deep groove to be painted or stained one must put down the roller and pick up a paint brush to use to get into the corner or groove. My invention is different from other inventions in that there is no need to switch back and forth between a paint roller and paint brush. My invention combines a paint roller cover with a paint brush making it possible to roll paint on a surface and also brush paint on a surface with the same painting tool.
In accordance with the present invention, the “roller cover brush” mainly comprises a paint roller cover and paint brush tip connected to the end of the paint roller cover. The present invention novelty is that it allows the operator to apply paint on walls and objects that are flat with the paint roller cover while also allowing the operator to apply paint into grooves and corners with the paint brush tip within the same paint applicator. This invention can be attached to standard paint roller frames and also adjustable paint roller frames to more efficiently paint, stain, dust, polish, strip, sand, clean, wipe off & apply liquid and power chemicals to multiple painting objects.
Accordingly, several objects and advantages of the “roller cover brush” described in my above patent are:
Further objectives and advantages of my invention will become apparent from a consideration of the drawings and ensuing description.
In accordance with the present invention the “roller cover brush” mainly comprises a paint roller cover and paint brush tip connected to the end of the paint roller cover.
FIG. 1) shows the “roller cover brush” as an one piece assembly with one shaft retainer and as an one piece assembly with two shaft retainers.

FIG. 3) shows the “roller cover brush” push on paint brush tip & roller cover shaft assembly being used with a standard roller cover and standard paint roller frame in which a roller cover is slide onto the paint brush tip and roller cover shaft assembly and then the paint brush tip and roller cover shaft assembly is slide onto the shaft of a paint roller.
FIG. 4) shows the “roller cover brush” push on paint brush tip assembly along with a roller cover and shaft to display how it would be assembled.
FIG. 5) shows the “roller cover brush” as a permanent assembly with an attachable and detachable adjustable paint roller arm.
FIG. 6) shows the “roller cover brush” as a take apart assembly with a push on paint brush tip assembly, a roller cover and an attachable and detachable adjustable paint roller arm.
FIG. 7) shows the “roller cover brush” as a 90 degree, 135 degree and 180 degree paint roller assembly.
A first preferred embodiment of the “roller cover brush” is illustrated in FIG. 1. The “roller cover brush 010” main parts generally comprise of a paint brush tip 040, and a paint roller cover 110, join together where the paint brush tip 040, is joined at the end of the paint roller cover 110, at a paint brush tip and roller cover connection joint 130. The paint roller cover 110, has a paint roller cover tubular core 120, which has a shaft retainer 070, that can spin freely in the center of the paint roller cover tubular core 120 and is use to attach the “roller cover brush 010” to a paint roller frame shaft 100.
The paint brush tip 040, is made up of a plurality of materials comprising foam, cloth, horse hair and other materials that general paint brush bristles are made out of. The paint roller cover 110, is made up of a plurality of materials comprising foam, cloth and other materials that general paint roller covers are made out of. The roller cover tubular core is generally made of plastic. The shaft retainer 070, is also generally made of plastic.
A second preferred embodiment of the “roller cover brush” is illustrated in FIG. 3. The “roller cover brush 010” main parts generally comprise of a push on paint brush tip and shaft assembly 020, and a paint roller cover 110. The paint brush tip and shaft assembly 020, comprises of a paint brush tip 040, paint brush tip support 050, and paint brush tip support and shaft retainer assembly 060. The paint brush tip support and shaft retainer assembly 060, has at least one shaft retainer 070, to keep the “roller cover brush 010” attached to a paint roller frame shaft 100. The shaft retainer 070 has a shaft retainer tongue spring 080, and a shaft retainer ID 090.
The paint brush tip 040, is made up of a plurality of materials comprising foam, cloth, horse hair and other materials that general paint brush bristles are made out of. The paint roller cover 110, is made up of a plurality of materials comprising foam, cloth and other materials that general paint roller covers are made out of. The roller cover tubular core 120, the shaft retainer 070, and paint brush tip support and shaft retainer assembly 060, are generally made of plastic.
From the description above, a number of advantages of the “roller cover brush” have become evident:
The first step would be to determine what application the “roller cover brush” is going to be used in. This would determine which roller material you needed. If you were painting, staining, dusting, polishing, striping, cleaning, wiping off & applying chemicals (liquid and powder), drying, sanding, or scraping each of theses different operations would require you to pick out a different roller material for that specific operation. Once you have decided what roller material you need for the specific job, such as needing a painting roller material for painting porch railing, you would then be ready to start using the “roller cover brush”.
Using the first preferred tool in FIG. 1, an operator would take the roller cover brush and push it onto a paint roller frame shaft and the shaft retainer tongue spring would grip onto the paint roller frame shaft to securely attach the roller cover brush to the paint roller frame shaft. Once attached the operator will roller the paint roller cover on a flat surface to apply paint like all typical paint rollers but when there is a groove or interior corner to be painted the paint roller cover is turned 90 degrees so that paint brush tip that is attached to the paint roller cover can be used like a paint brush. The roller cover brush allows the operator to use a paint brush and paint roller in one tool just by flipping back and forth from 0 to 90 degrees to switch between the roller cover end and the paint brush tip end.

The roller cover would be allowed to rotate freely around the shaft of the push on paint brush tip and shaft assembly during operation. Once attached the operator will roller the paint roller cover on a flat surface to apply paint like all typical paint rollers but when there is a groove or interior corner to be painted the paint roller cover is turned 90 degrees so the paint brush tip that is attached to the paint roller cover can be used like a paint brush. The roller cover brush allows the operator to use a paint brush and paint roller in one tool just by flipping back and forth from 0 to 90 degrees to switch between the roller cover end and the paint brush tip end.

Although the description above contains much specificity, these should not be construed as limiting the scope of the invention but as merely providing illustrations of some of the presently preferred embodiments of the invention.

1) A painting applicator that combines a paint roller and a paint brush into one tool comprising a paint roller cover with a paint brush tip extending from the end of said paint roller cover, wherein an operator can use said painting applicator for a dual purpose in which the paint roller cover portion of said painting applicator is used for the first purpose to roll against a surface to apply liquids and then said paint brush tip portion of said painting applicator is used for the second purpose to brush liquids onto a surface,
2) The claim of 1, whereby when flipping said painting applicator in one direction an operator uses said paint roller cover to roll liquids onto a surface and by flipping said painting applicator approximately 90 degrees said operator uses said paint brush tip to brush liquids onto a surface,

9) I claim a painting applicator comprising a paint roller cover, a paint brush tip, a shaft and a paint applicator frame connection means, wherein said paint brush tip is secured to said shaft at one end and said paint roller cover is slid onto said shaft at the other end and at said other end the shaft is then connected to a paint applicator frame, by said paint applicator frame connection means, wherein said paint roller cover can rotate freely around said shaft and wherein an operator can use said painting applicator for a dual purpose in which the paint roller cover portion of said painting applicator is used for the first purpose to roll against a surface to apply liquids and then said paint brush tip portion of said painting applicator is used for the second purpose to brush liquids onto a surface,
10) The claim of 9 wherein said painting applicator is attached to a painting applicator frame by said paint applicator frame connection means comprising a retainer clip, press-fit, screwed, threaded, bolted, boss inserted into hole linkage,
11) The claim of 9 wherein said paint applicator can lock at angles comprising 90 degrees, 135 degrees, and 180 degrees in relation to a handle by way of said paint applicator frame connection means comprising a disk at the end of said shaft with a center pivot hole and three positioning holes that allow said paint applicator to be rotated to and lock at 90 degrees, 135 degrees and 180 degrees in relation to a paint frame handle,

18) The claim of 15 whereby a paint roller cover is connect on a paint applicator frame along with said paint brush tip to form a combined painting applicator with a dual purpose in which said paint roller cover portion of said painting applicator is used for the first purpose to roll against a surface to apply liquids and then said paint brush tip portion of said painting applicator is used for the second purpose to brush liquids onto a surface,
19) The claim of 15, whereby when flipping said painting applicator in one direction an operator uses said paint roller cover to roll liquids onto a surface and by flipping said painting applicator approximately 90 degrees said operator uses said paint brush tip to brush liquids onto a surface,
