The present invention relates generally to furniture pieces, and more particularly to a sofa that has a remote control magnetically attached thereto.
Powered chairs or sofas have become very popular for use within offices or residences, and are usually controlled by means of a wired remote-control device or a wireless remote-control device. In either case, when the remote-control device is not actually being used, the user often places the remote-control device upon some table, other furniture piece, or platform adjacent to or near the sofa or chair, or alternatively, if the user arises from and leaves the chair or sofa, the user often places the remote-control device upon the seat cushion of the chair or sofa. In either scenario, the remote-control device can be misplaced as a result of being set down at a location which the user may not recall, become lost as a result of being inadvertently disposed beneath other items placed upon the table, other furniture piece, or platform, or still further, can become lost as a result of the remote-control device becoming lodged between cushions of the sofa or between one of the cushions and an arm of the furniture piece. Still further, the user may sometimes place the remote-control device upon the seat cushion of the chair, or upon one of the seat cushions of the sofa, and then, when returning to the chair or sofa, absent-mindedly resume the sitting position without having first removed the remote-control device from the cushion, thereby unintentionally crushing or otherwise damaging the remote-control device.
A need therefore exists in the art for a new and improved powered chair or sofa. Another need exists in the art for a new and improved powered chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto. Still another need exists in the art for a new and improved powered chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto such that the remote-control device does not become misplaced. Yet another need exists in the art for a new and improved powered chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto such that the remote-control device does not become lost. Still yet another need exists in the art for a new and improved chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto such that the remote-control device is always disposed at the same location. Yet still another need exists in the art for a new and improved powered chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto whereby the remote-control device is always disposed at the same location such that the occupant of the chair or sofa can always readily access the remote-control device. A further need exists in the art for a new and improved powered chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto such that the remote-control device is not disposed upon the seat cushion of the chair or sofa where the occupant of the chair or sofa could inadvertently damage the remote-control device by absent-mindedly sitting on the same when resuming a sitting position after having vacated the seat.
Therefore, a first overall objective of the present invention is to provide a new and improved powered chair or sofa. Another overall objective of the present invention is to provide a new and improved chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto. Still another overall objective of the present invention is to provide a new and improved powered chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto such that the remote-control device does not become misplaced. Yet another overall objective of the present invention is to provide a new and improved powered chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto such that the remote-control device does not become lost. Still yet another overall objective of the present invention is to provide a new and improved powered chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto such that the remote-control device is always disposed at the same location. Yet still another overall objective of the present invention is to provide a new and improved powered chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto whereby the remote-control device is always disposed at the same location such that the occupant of the chair or sofa can always readily access the remote-control device. A further overall objective of the present invention is to provide a new and improved powered chair or sofa wherein a remote-control device can be attached thereto such that the remote-control device is not disposed upon the seat cushion of the chair or sofa where the occupant of the chair or sofa could inadvertently damage the remote-control device by absent-mindedly sitting on the same when resuming a sitting position after having vacated the seat.
The foregoing and other objectives of the present invention are achieved in accordance with the principles and teachings of the present invention wherein a powered chair or a sofa is provided with a magnetic assembly, attached, for example, to an outside/exterior surface of one of the arms of the powered chair or sofa, while the remote-control housing is open upon one side thereof wherein a pair of pockets are provided within which a pair of iron plates are respectively disposed. Accordingly, when the user or occupant of the powered chair or sofa wants to attach the remote-control to the side of the powered chair, the pair of iron plates will be attracted to a pair of magnets comprising the magnetic assembly whereby the remote-control can be removably mounted upon the outside/exterior surface of one of the arms of the powered chair or sofa. In this manner, when attached to the arm of the chair or sofa, the remote-control is always disposed at the same known location, cannot be misplaced or lost, and cannot be inadvertently damaged.
Various other features and attendant advantages of the present invention will be more fully appreciated from the following detailed description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
FIG. 1 is a top, right side perspective view of an arm of a powered chair or sofa having a remote-control device magnetically attached to an outside or exterior surface portion of the arm of the chair or sofa;
FIG. 2 is a right side, front perspective view of a powered chair having the remote-control device magnetically attached to the outside or exterior surface portion of one of the arms of the chair;
FIG. 3 is a right side, front perspective view of the powered chair having the magnetic assembly fixedly attached to the outside or exterior surface portion of one of the arms of the chair, wherein the magnetic assembly comprises a pair of magnets fixedly attached to the outside or exterior surface portion of one of the arms of the chair;
FIG. 4 is a bottom plan view of the remote-control housing showing the internal portion of the housing wherein a pair of iron plates are fixedly mounted internally within a pair of slots such that the pair of iron plates can magnetically cooperate with the pair of magnets fixedly attached to the outside or exterior surface portion of the arm of the powered chair, as illustrated within FIG. 3, whereby the remote-control device can be removably mounted upon the outside or exterior surface portion of the arm of the powered chair; and
FIG. 5 is a bottom perspective view of the remote-control housing as illustrated within FIG. 4.
Referring now to the drawings, and more particularly to FIGS. 1-5 thereof, a new and improved powered chair or a sofa, as constructed in accordance with the principles and teachings of the present invention, is disclosed and is generally indicated by the reference character 100. More particularly, the new and improved powered chair 100 includes a pair of oppositely disposed arms 102,102, a seat 104, and a backrest 106. As can best be seen from FIG. 3, a magnetic assembly, comprising a pair of longitudinally spaced magnets 108,108 is fixedly attached, for example, to an outside/exterior surface of one of the arms 102 of the powered chair 100. In addition, a remote-control device 110 is adapted to be removably mounted upon the arm 102 of the powered chair 100 as a result of being magnetically attracted to the pair of longitudinally spaced magnets 108,108.
More particularly, as can best been appreciated from FIGS. 4 and 5, the remote-control device 110 comprises a housing or casing 111 within which a pair of longitudinally spaced pockets 112,112 are defined, and wherein a pair of iron plates 114 are respectively fixedly disposed. Accordingly, when the user or occupant of the powered chair 100 wants to attach the remote-control device 110 to the side of the powered chair 100, the pair of iron plates 114 will be attracted to the pair of magnets 108 comprising the magnetic assembly whereby the remote-control device 110 can be removably mounted upon the outside or exterior surface of one of the arms 102 of the powered chair 100. In this manner, when attached to the arm 102 of the powered chair 100, the remote-control device 110 is always disposed at the same known location, cannot be misplaced or lost, and cannot be inadvertently damaged.
It is lastly noted that while the remote-control device 110 is illustrated as being a wired remote-control device 110, as illustrated by means of the wire 116, the remote-control device 110 can likewise be wireless.
Obviously, many variations and modifications of the present invention are possible in light of the above teachings. It is therefore to be understood that within the scope of the appended claims, the present invention may be practiced otherwise than as specifically described herein.
