The present application claims the benefit of priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/724,103 filed Nov. 22, 2024, the entirety of which is incorporated herein by reference.
The present subject matter relates generally to pre-wrapped gift boxes. More specifically, the present invention relates to a gift box that includes a layer of wrapping paper thereon that may be torn away during the gift unwrapping experience.
Gift wrapping is an important part of the gift giving process. People often spend time, effort, and resources to present a gift to a recipient that is wrapped in paper so that the recipient can unwrap the gift. Gifts are often placed within a gift box prior to wrapping as well. However, gift wrapping can be a time-consuming, frustrating, and costly process.
Cleanly wrapping boxes can be difficult to accomplish as it requires a number of slightly awkward steps. The user first portions and cuts an appropriate amount of wrapping paper for the gift or gift box, and then maneuvers the wrapping paper around the gift box to avoid rips and tears, and to cover the entirety of the gift box. Finally, the user tapes the wrapping paper onto itself or the box. If any mistakes are made in this multi-step process, it can be easily visible to the gift recipient and embarrass or cause stress to the gift giver as it can appear that care was not taken in preparing the gift box. Further, if wrapped incorrectly, the contents of the gift may be exposed, and the element of surprise is wholly eliminated from the gift giving process.
There have been attempts to simplify the gift-wrapping process. Some gifts, depending on shape, can be placed in bags. Other solutions include multi-use boxes, some with printed images of wrapping paper, that can be secured by bows or ribbons. However, these solutions lessen the impact of the gift-giving process by eliminating the ripping of wrapping paper, which allows for an increase in suspense and excitement for the gift recipient. Instead, the above-mentioned solutions are single step processes which do not maximize suspense and excitement and, importantly, do a poor job of recreating the traditional gift unwrapping experience.
Accordingly, there is a need for simple and efficient gift-wrapping solution that allows for cleanly wrapped gifts without compromising the experience of the gift recipient, as described herein.
To meet the needs described above and others, the present disclosure provides a simple and efficient gift-wrapping solution that allows for cleanly wrapped gifts without compromising the experience of the gift recipient.
In one example, a pre-wrapped gift box includes a first box portion and a second box portion that mate together. Each of the first box portion and the second box portion has a box structure designed to structurally house and/or support the gift and is surrounded by pre-attached wrapping paper that may be ripped from the respective box portion during an unwrapping process. The first box portion slides over the second box portion to form the pre-wrapped gift box, and the wrapping paper extends beyond at least one or more edges of the first and/or second box portions to adhere to the other box portion, as is typical of gift-wrapped boxes. The first box portion is secured to the second box portion by an extended flap that adheres to the second box portion. For example, the extended flap may adhere to the bottom of the second box portion. In another example, the extended flap may adhere to the side of the second box portion.
In another example, a pre-wrapped gift box includes a single box formed from an integral or unitary base and top in which a closing flap tucks into a side of the box portion. The subject matter presented herein provides a pre-wrapped gift box 100 capable of enclosing and concealing a gift for single-use unwrapping experience. As shown in FIG. 1, the gift box 100 includes a box top 102 that covers and closes a box base 104 (FIG. 3). Each of the box top 102 and the box base 104 are covered by a tearable paper 106, such as a traditional wrapping paper. As shown in FIG. 1, the tearable paper 106 may include a pattern or image, also consistent with traditional wrapping paper. Although the pattern shown in FIG. 1 is a dotted pattern, it is understood the pattern or image can be any of a wide range of visual patterns or images, textural patterns or images, or any other type of patten or image.
As shown in FIG. 2, the tearable paper 106 covering the box top 102 may form an extended flap 108 that, in use, wraps over the bottom edge 110 of the box top 102 onto the box base 104. The extended flap 108 is formed from the tearable paper 106. In the example shown in FIG. 2, the extended flap 108 is shaped to mimic the side flap formed when using traditional gift wrapping techniques on a rectangular or square box.
Although shown as a rectangular prism in FIGS. 1 and 2, the pre-wrapped gift box 100 may take any of a number of forms. For example, the pre-wrapped gift box 100 may be a square prism. The pre-wrapped gift box 100 may be a right circular cylindrical prism (FIG. 11). Or it may be any other shape or form a gift box may take. The pre-wrapped gift box 100 may also be any size. For example, the pre-wrapped gift box 100 may take the form of a two-piece shirt box, one-piece gift box (e.g., FIG. 10), jewelry box, or any other known gift box shape.
FIG. 3 illustrates external surfaces of the box top 102 and the box base 104 when separated from each other. As shown in FIG. 3, the box top includes a box top main panel 112 and the box base includes a box base main panel 114 as well as two extended flaps 108.
FIG. 4 illustrates additional external and some internal surfaces of each of the box top 102 and the box base 104. The box top 102 and box base 104 shown in FIG. 4, demonstrate the internal surfaces of the box top 102 and box base 104 are not entirely covered by the tearable paper 106. In some embodiments, the tearable paper 106 extends onto interior surfaces of the box top 102 and box base 104. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 4, the tearable paper 106 only covers the exterior surfaces of the box top 102 and box base 104.
In the example shown in FIG. 4, the box top 102 and the box base 104 are made from cardboard. In other examples, the box top 102 and box base 104 may be formed from paperboard. However, it is understood that the box top 102 and box base 104 may be formed from any structural material capable of enclosing a gift or other object, whether capable of holding a shape on its own or not. However, optimal performance of the pre-wrapped gift box 100 requires the box top 102 and the box base 104 to be formed of a material that is more difficult to tear than the tearable paper 106 as one of the principal purpose of the pre-wrapped gift box 100 is to provide the recipient the experience of tearing the tearable paper 106 from the box top 102 and the box base 104.
As further shown in FIG. 4, the tearable paper 106 is secured to the structural material forming the box top 102 and the box base 104 continuously along the outer edges of the box top 102 and the box base 104. This forms a neat interface between the tearable paper 106 and the underlying structural material. However, there may be instances in which it is advantageous to not have a continuous, unbroken, adhesion between the tearable paper 106 is secured to the structural material forming the box top 102 and the box base 104 along the outer edges to better facilitate a user being able to tear the tearable paper 106 from the box top 102 and the box base 104. In other embodiments, the tearable paper 106 may be extend onto and be adhered to interior surfaces of the box top 102 and the box base 104.
The tearable paper 106 may be adhered to the box top 102 and the box base 104 using any form of adhesive. For example, various glues or tapes may be used to secure the tearable paper 106 to the box top 102 and the box base 104. However, there mechanism securing or adhering the tearable paper 106 to the box top 102 and the box base 104 must not prevent a user from being able to tear away the tearable paper 106 from the box top 102 and the box base 104. Accordingly, while secured along a portion of the interface between the tearable paper 106 and the box top 102 and the box base 104, a substantial portion of the tearable paper 106 rests loosely against the exterior surfaces of the box top 102 and the box base 104.
In the example shown in FIG. 4, the tearable paper 106 covering the box top 102 forms two extended flaps 108 that, in use, fold over the bottom of the box base main panel 112 to seal against the tearable paper 106 covering the box base 104. In the example shown in FIG. 4, the two extended flaps 108 are along two of the four box top side panels 116. It is contemplated that an embodiment of the pre-wrapped gift box 100 may include extended flaps 108 along any or all the box top side panels 116. It is also possible for one or more of the box base side panels 118 to be associated with an extended flap 108. However, traditional gift wrapping would for a rectangular box would include two extended flaps 108 on associated box top side panels 116 and no where else on the pre-wrapped gift box 100.
The example of the pre-wrapped gift box 100 shown in FIG. 4 is a box in which the box top side panels 116 and box base side panels 118 fold flat against the box top main panel 112 and the box base main panel 114, respectively. However, the box top 102 and the box base 104 may include foldable side panels 116, 118 or not.
FIG. 5 illustrated the underside of one of the extended flaps 108. As shown in FIG. 5, the underside of the extended flap 108 includes an adhesive strip 120 for securing the extended flap 108 onto a portion of the tearable paper 106 covering an exterior surface of the box base main panel 114. In the example shown in FIG. 5, the adhesive strip 120 is a piece of double-sided tape that is adhered to the underside of the extended flap 108 and includes a removeable barrier along its visible side such that a use may peel off the removeable barrier 122 before sticking the adhesive 120 against the surface of the tearable paper 106 to which it is to be adhered.
FIG. 6-8 illustrate the wrapping of the extended flap 108 over the bottom edge 110 of the box top 102 to secure the extended flap 108 to the tearable paper 106 covering the box base main panel 114.
FIG. 9 illustrates an example of a pre-wrapped gift box 100 including an alternative box shape in which the box top 102 is integrally formed with the box base 104. As shown, the box top 102 includes an edge flap 124. In this example, the box top 102 may be closed, and the edge flap 124 may be secured to the box base 104 to seal the pre-wrapped gift box 100. Accordingly, an adhesive strip 120, such as a piece of double-sided tape, may be adhered to the underside of the edge flap 124 to seal the box top 102 to the box base 104.
FIG. 10 illustrates an example of a pre-wrapped gift box 100 in which the pre-wrapped gift box 100 is a right circular cylindrical box. In this example, the box top 102 may include a rim 126 extending downward from the box top main panel 112. One or more adhesive strips 120, such pieces of double-sided tape, may be adhered to the underside of the rim 126 to seal the box top 102 to the box base 104. Alternatively, the box trop 102 may include extended flaps 108 such as those shown in the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 1-8 to assist in securing the box top 102 to the box base 104.
