SURGICAL STAPLER WITH MAGNETICALLY SECURED COMPONENTS

A surgical stapler includes a stapler head with a stapler cartridge from which staple blanks are ejected against an anvil with grooves that bend the staple blanks into staples that hold together tissue layers interposed between the anvil and stapler cartridge. The anvil and stapler head each includes magnetic members, at least one of which is a magnet and the other of which is either another magnet or a non-magnetized magnetically permeable member. Placing the anvil and stapler head in proximity with each other causes them to be magnetically coupled together with the anvil opposing the stapler cartridge. The anvil is then locked to the stapler head mechanically so that the tissues captured therebetween can be secured together by actuating the stapler to eject staple blanks against the anvil. In another aspect of the invention, the staple cartridge is removably secured to the stapler head by a similar magnetic arrangement.

Method of facial reconstructive surgery using a self-anchoring tissue lifting device

A self-anchoring tissue lifting device for use with facial cosmetic reconstructive surgery includes an implant and a removable foil cover disposed on the implant. The implant includes an elongated mesh strip having a distal end on which is situated a tissue anchoring fleece material. Opposite lateral edges of the mesh material are preferably laser cut during the manufacturing process of the implant to provide a plurality of tissue engaging prickles along the longitudinal length of the implant. For treating the mid face and jowl, a stab incision is made within the hairline of the temple region of the patient and the device is applied from the temporal area to the peak of the ipsilateral cheek to capture the malar fat pad to correct midface abnormalities or the ptotic tissue causing the jowl.

Counterforce-counteracting device for a nailer

A counterforce-counteracting device for a nailer comprises an active device, a rotating member, and a weight device. The active device drives the rotating member and the weight device to move. After the active device moves, the weight device is driven by the rotating member to produce a counterforce, so as to counteract the counterforce of the nailer. Thereby, such a device is secure and is easy to assemble.

Surgical stapling device

A surgical device is disclosed which includes a handle portion, a central body portion and a SULU. The SULU includes a proximal body portion, an intermediate pivot member and a tool assembly. The intermediate pivot member is pivotally secured to the proximal body portion about a first pivot axis and the tool assembly is pivotally secured to the intermediate pivot member about a second pivot axis which is orthogonal to the first pivot axis. The SULU includes a plurality of articulation links which are operably connected to the tool assembly by non-rigid links. The articulation links are adapted to releasably engage articulation links positioned in the central body portion. The body portion articulation links are connected to an articulation actuator which is supported for omni-directional movement to effect articulation of the tool assembly about the first and second axes. The handle portion includes a spindle and barrel assembly drive mechanism for advancing and retracting a drive member positioned in the tool assembly. In one embodiment, the tool assembly includes a cartridge assembly having a plurality of staples and an anvil assembly.
