A shock absorbing device comprises a grip, a shaft having a lower receptacle and a recess provided in a bottom of the receptacle, a contact member having a neck, and resilient element (e.g., helical spring) having a lower end fastened onto the neck and an upper end fastened in the recess. A minimum of shocks and jarring caused by a collision of the contact member and an article to be hit when swinging is adapted to transmit the hands of a player through the shaft and the grip. Hence, a player may feel a degree of comfort.

The present invention relates to a shock absorbing device and more particularly to a shock absorbing device for lessening the effect or absorbing the force of shocks and jarring while swinging.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONGolf is a popular now. The quality of golf club plays an important role in having a good score when playing golf. It is known that shocks and jarring caused by the collision of the head of a golf club and a hard ball when swinging may transmit to the hands of a player through the club. Typically, such feeling is not good. To the worse, a player may feel sore and stiff in his/her shoulder after playing. This may discourage many people in pursuing a longer golf club playing life. Hence, a need for improvement exists.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONIt is an object of the present invention to provide a shock absorbing device such that a player may feel a degree of comfort when the head of the club hits an article to be hit while swinging.
To achieve the above and other objects, the present invention provides a shock absorbing device comprises a grip, a shaft having a lower receptacle and a recess provided in a bottom of the receptacle, a contact member (e.g., head) having a neck, and resilient means (e.g., helical spring) having a lower end fastened onto the neck and an upper end fastened in the recess. A minimum of shocks and jarring caused by a collision of the contact member and an article to be hit when swinging is adapted to transmit the hands of a player through the shaft and the grip.
The above and other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken with the accompanying drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTSReferring to FIGS. 1 and 2, a shock absorbing device constructed in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention is shown. The shock absorbing device comprises a grip 3, a shaft 1 having a receptacle 11 in its lower end and a recess 12 provided in the bottom of the receptacle 11, a contact member (e.g., club head) 2 having a neck 21, and a helical spring 4 having a lower end snugly put on the neck 21 and fastened thereat, and an upper end anchored in the recess 12. Note that the helical spring 4 may be replaced by an elastomer (e.g., foam rubber) or a soft plastic member in any other embodiments.
In assembly as shown in FIG. 2, first fasten the upper end of the spring 4 in the recess 12. Next, fasten the lower end of the spring 4 onto the neck 21 when the neck 21 is inserted into the receptacle 11. Also, the shaft 1, the spring 4, and the contact member 2 can be fastened together by soldering, riveting, or applying adhesive.
In operating, shocks and jarring caused by the collision of the contact member 2 of a club of the invention and an article to be hit when swinging may transmit its minimum to the hands of a player through the shaft 1 and grip 3 since majority of the force of shocks and jarring is absorbed by the spring 4. Thus, the player may feel a degree of comfort and sport injury may be prevented.
While the invention herein disclosed has been described by means of specific embodiments, numerous modifications and variations could be made thereto by those skilled in the art without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention set forth in the claims.
1. A shock absorbing device comprising:
a grip;
a shaft having a lower receptacle and a recess provided in a bottom of the receptacle;
a contact member having a neck; and
resilient element having a lower end fastened onto the neck and an upper end fastened in the recess,
wherein a minimum of shocks and jarring caused by a collision of the contact member and an article to be hit when swinging is transmitted the hands of a player through the shaft and the grip.
2. The shock absorbing device of claim 1, wherein the resilient element is a helical spring.
3. The shock absorbing device of claim 1, wherein the resilient element is a foam rubber.
4. The shock absorbing device of claim 1, wherein the resilient element is made of a soft plastic material.
