Description

1.) FIELD OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates generally to the area of sun, rain protective umbrellas and more specifically to the area of umbrellas that provide hands free use for the safety and comfort of its users.

2.) DESCRIPTION OF THE RELATED ART

To the best of applicant's knowledge, information and belief, there has been no similar invention.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The umbrella is commonly used internationally to protect the user thereof from sun and rain or other precipitation falling upon him or her. The advantages of an umbrella are readily apparent. When not in use, it is easily collapsible into a small non-intrusive object which is easily stored. When it is necessary to use it for protection, it can be easily drawn out and opened for as long as it is needed.

Unfortunately, the umbrella as currently used, has several drawbacks. One of these drawbacks is that an umbrella is of necessity, used in inclement weather. When it is rainy or otherwise inclement, the umbrella tends to obscure a user's view while crossing a street from an approaching motorist. A further danger to the user is that the umbrella is awkward to carry with packages, baby, etc., increasing the possibility of an injurious trip or fall. Also, by not being an additional item to carry, the user will not become easier prey for potential criminals.

Currently, the predominant method in which umbrella users overcome the aforementioned difficulties is to wear some sort of raincoat, hat or visor. In addition to this being cumbersome, i.e. requiring the wearing of an extra article, it is not always comfortable (wind may easily take a hat or visor). Also, having hands free use of this umbrella is an asset e.g. the user is accompanied by a small child, whose hand must be held, the user is carrying books or papers or other objects, etc.

Accordingly, it is an object of this invention to solve some of the problems associated with the use of an umbrella by providing hands free protection from the elements for an umbrella user so that the user's visibility and versatility is increased.

It is another object of this invention to provide this hands free use and protection while walking, working outdoors, hiking, bicycling, etc., in inclement weather.

This hands free method is provided by simply strapping the umbrella to the back with straps attaching it to a backpack or backpack purse as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. Umbrella may be strapped or snapped into place by user very easily.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT(S)

As can be seen in FIG. 1, the user will open the umbrella 5 when it is raining 6 or sun is shining 7 by means long associated with umbrella use.

If desired by user the straps 1 can be put over shoulders, fastened in front of the chest and adornment by adjustable straps 2 for a secure and comfortable fit.

The rod of the umbrella 4 which until now was held by the hand, fits into the sleeve 3 which may be attached to the inside back of a backpack 4 in FIGS. 2 and 3.

FIG. 2 shows the umbrella 1 with its rod 2 in the sleeve 3 which is attached to the inside of the backpack 4. Shoulder straps are shown also.

FIG. 3 shows the umbrella with rod 2 in the sleeve 3 which is attached to the inside of the backpack 4. The shoulder straps 5, chest straps 6 and adornment straps 7 are also show in FIG. 3.

While one basic embodiment of the invention has been described, it will be understood that it is capable of still further modifications and this application is intended to cover any variations, used, or adaptations of the invention, following in general principles of the invention and including such departures from the present disclosure as come within the knowledge or customary practice in the art to which the invention pertains, and as may be applied to the essential features hereinbefore set forth and falling within the scope of the invention or the limits of the appended claims.
