Abstract:

The Energized Curling Broom is a traditional curling broom the head of which is bearing an energy source and an energy transferring device capable to deliver, during the course of a curling game, additional energy to the ice and favor not only for easing the control over the direction and distance of the moving curling rock, but also permitting older and feeble player to participate fully in the curling game.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

It is known that traveling curling rocks during a curling game are deviated from the straight line due to the friction between the rotating rock and the ice which is greater at the front than at the back of a traveling curling rock. Because the rotating rock is causing momentarily melting of the ice and a liquid film between the rock and the ice, the friction is reduced at the rear end thus causing deviation of the curling rock (Shegelski, Niebergall, and Walton 1996: โ€œThe Motion of a Curling Rockโ€, Can. J of Physics, vol. 74, 663-670). Since the formation of the liquid film is enhanced by the energy transmitted from the sweeping curling broom during a traditional game, a curling broom able to add further energy will enhance the deviation from the straight line and extend the traveling distance of the curling rock.

Using the Energized Curling Broom broom capable to deliver additional energy and favor the formation of liquefied ice not only eases the control over the direction and distance of the moving curling rock, but also permits older and feeble player to participate fully in the curling game.

The proposed curling broom head is provided with an energy source, a device able to transfer energy to the ice, and a controlling device for adjusting the energy transfer.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The Energized Curling Broom is a traditional curling broom the head of which is bearing an energy source and an energy transferring device that can be activated by an on/off/control device. Using the Energized Curling Broom broom capable to deliver additional energy and favor the formation of liquefied ice, not only eases the control over the direction and distance of the moving curling rock, but also permits older and feeble player to participate fully in the curling game.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The embodiment of the invention as shown in FIG. 1 consists of any standard or tournament curling broom the head of which is equipped with an energy transmitting device (1), an energy source (2), and an energy control device (3). The energy source (2) may be an electrical battery or any other energy storage facility inside or outside of the broom's head. The energy transmitting device integrated in the broom's head (1) is designed to enhance the liquid film under the traveling rock by heating the ice using any form of energy, such as heat, vibration, or irradiation. Integrated into the curling broom, preferably in the handle, is an on/off/control switch (3) permitting the player to run, stop, or modify the action of the energy transmitting device.

Claims

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1. A curling broom the head of which is provided with an energy source and a device able to transfer energy to the ice during a curling game.

2. A curling broom as defined in claim 1 whose energy transmitting device emits energy of any kind, including heat, vibration, irradiation, or any type of electromagnetic waves.

3. A curling broom as defined in claim 1 and 2 equipped with an energy source of any type, including electrical and chemical energy storage devices.

4. A curling broom as defined in claim 1, 2, and 3 equipped with an on/off/control device to activate/deactivate or control the intensity of the energy dissipated by the energy transferring device.
