Description

RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims priority of U.S. Provisional patent application Ser. No. 60/796,455 filed May 1, 2006, which is incorporated herein by reference.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to bands for water bottles and the like and more particularly to an elastic band to be attached to a water bottle or the like to include advertising or to identify the owner of the bottle.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is common for participants in athletic events to bring with them their own container for water or other thirst-quenching beverages used by athletes. The containers for particular brands of such beverages are of course substantially identical, and if the beverage is water many containers look alike whether the water is in its original bottle or in a purchased bottle for water or other beverages.

The usual practice, at least in outdoor sports such as soccer, is to toss the containers to the ground off the field when they are not in use. The result is that it is difficult to determine whose bottle belongs to whom. There then is a need for a means to identify the owner of the bottles or the like, The means preferably should be usable with containers of different sizes and dimensions and should be easily transferable from one container to the next.

The present invention provides such a means. An elastic band is provided with indicia to indicate the owner. The band is dimensioned to fit around bottles and containers of different sizes and can be easily removed from the bottle or container to be used on a new container.

DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING

A clear understanding of the present invention can be had by reference to FIG. 1 included herewith and which is an elevational view of a beverage container illustrating the manner in which the elastic band of the present invention is attached to the container.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

As can be seen in FIG. 1, a beverage container 10 such as a water bottle is provided and an elastic band 12 is adapted to be stretched and mounted to the container 10.

The band 12 is shown in phantom at 12a in a relaxed form prior to its being slipped over the top of the container 10. The band is shown in phantom at 12b stretched to fit over the middle, a somewhat larger portion, of the container 10. The band is shown at 12 in position on the container 10. The band 12 is provided with indicia 14 which identifies the owner of the container 10 so that it can be readily identified even when it is mixed with similarly shaped containers. The indicia 14 could if desired be in the form of advertising such as a logo or the like.

Because the band 12 is elastic, it can accommodate containers and bottles of various sizes and it can be easily removed to be used again with a different container or bottle.

While it has been preferred to disclose the band as being of a particular configuration, it is clear that the band 12 could have other dimensions without departing from the present invention.

Claims

1. A band for identifying the owner of a beverage container or the like,
