Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Many times, a child grows more quickly in height than they do in girth, creating either pants/shirts that fit in the waist/torso and are too short in the legs or arms, or pants/shirts that fit in length, but are too large in the waist and torso areas.

It is the object of the present invention to create a low-cost, simple alternative to increase the number of times the child is able to wear the piece and have it fit correctly; the user will be able to add length to their child's clothing, thereby increasing the shelf-life of that article of clothing.

It is a further object of the present invention is to be able to add detail to an article of clothing to personalize that clothing to their individual tastes. A parent will be able to take their child's shirt/pants and add detail to it to give it a high-end boutique appeal. In addition, adults, teens and pre-teens can add detail to fit their personalities better than the blank articles of clothing available today.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

FIG. 1. shows a pair of pants 10 and the pant leg 11. The pant cuff extenders are comprised of rectangular pieces of cloth 12, with a center fold line 13 and three (3) pieces of iron-on adhesive tape 14 already applied to the two long edges and one short side of the wrong side of the fabric.

FIG. 2. is a depiction of how to apply the pant cuff extenders 22 to the bottom of the pant leg 21, after folding the cloth on the fold line 23, with the iron-on adhesive tape 24 facing each other and right sides of the fabric facing out.

FIG. 3. shows how to place one edge of the cuff extender 32 inside the other folded edge allowing the adhesive edge 34 to be on the outside edge, making the cuff 32 the same circumference of the pant leg 31. Once the circumference of the cuff 32 matches the pant leg 31, place the pant leg 31 into the cuff 32 and press all edges with an iron 35 until the adhesive tape 34 is properly adhered to the pant leg 31.

OPERATION

First Embodiment

As shown in FIG. 3., then place one edge of the cuff extender 32 inside the other folded edge allowing the adhesive edge 34 to be on the outside edge, making the cuff 32 the same circumference of the pant leg 31. Once the circumference of the cuff 32 matches the pant leg 31, place the pant leg 31 into the cuff 32 and press all edges with an iron 35 until the adhesive tape 34 is properly adhered to the pant leg 31.

OPERATION

Additional Embodiment

Alternately, one would be able to accomplish the same effect of the iron-on cuff extenders by using only one edge of adhesive tape, non-iron or heat-set fabric glue, snaps, buttons, hook and loop closure or other means of fastening a piece of cloth to the bottom of pant legs, skirts, dresses, sleeves or other articles of clothing not mentioned to create added length or decoration.

As mentioned above, this idea can be used on any garment that would need added length or ease of decoration. Adding the invention to pants is only an example to illustrate the overall scope of the invention, but does not limit its application to other articles of clothing.

ADVANTAGES

From the description above, a number of advantages of the iron-on cuff extenders become evident:

One advantage of the invention is that the user will be able to add length to their child's clothing, thereby increasing the shelf-life of that article of clothing. CONCLUSION, RAMIFICATIONS AND SCOPE

While the above description contains many specificities, these should not be construed as limitation on the scope of any embodiment, but as exemplifications of the presently preferred embodiments thereof. Many other ramifications and variations are possible within the teachings of the various embodiments. For example, different materials, sizes and closures can be used on all components. In lieu of iron-on adhesive tape, extender cuffs can be adhered with buttons, snaps, hook and loop fasteners or hook and eye fasteners.

Thus the scope of the invention should be determined by the appended claims and their legal equivalents, and not by the examples given.

The foregoing disclosure and description of the invention is illustrative and explanatory thereof. Various changes in the details of the illustrated construction may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the true spirit of the invention. The present invention should only be limited by the following claims and their legal equivalents.
