The Lanyard 9 is sized to permit hands free removal of the gun hood 8 as the gun 14 is moved from a carrying position to an aiming or firing position when one end of the lanyard 9 is attached to the gun hood 8 and the other end of the lanyard is attached to the user or the users clothing. Alternatively the lanyard 9 may include an adjustment to permit adjustment of the lanyard's length to facilitate hands free removal of the gun hood 8 when the gun is moved from a carrying position to an aiming or firing position. Smooth stitching of the inside of the gun hood may be employed so that the inner surface of the gun hood remains as smooth as possible to facilitate smooth silent removal of the gun hood 8 when the gun is moved from a carrying position to a firing position.
