Smart Summary: A golf towel assembly is designed to attach easily to a golf bag. It has a towel with a magnet and a slit that help secure it to the bag. The magnet can connect to a metal clip or target on the bag, allowing golfers to lift the towel without bending down. The slit fits over a golf clubhead, making the towel easy to reach and keeping other clubs dry. Additionally, the towel includes a brush for cleaning clubs, combining two tools into one convenient accessory. ๐Ÿš€ TL;DR

Abstract:

The present invention is a golf towel assembly which attaches to a golf bag. The assembly includes a towel provided with at least one magnet and a slit, the magnet and slit both facilitating attachment to the golf bag. The magnet can be attached to a metal clip already positioned on the bag or alternatively to a metal target affixed to the bag. The magnet is strongly attracted to a metal clubhead so that a golfer can position the clubhead near the magnet in the towel and effect lifting of the towel without having to reach down. The slit is sized for sliding over a single golf clubhead positioned in the bag, positioning the towel where it can be easily accessed and also serve to keep other clubs dry. A brush is incorporated into the towel so that a club can be cleaned and wiped with a single accessory.

Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates generally to golf equipment and accessories. More particularly, the invention relates to an improved golf towel and method of use.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

A golf towel is a common accessory for golfers, and various connection schemes and mechanisms for attaching the towel and other accessories to the golf bag are well known. Certain accessories for golfers, such as towels, brushes, tees, etc. are positioned exteriorly of the golf bag for easy access. This is so because the amount of time a golfer has to prepare for the next shot is limited and the time required to search for anything stored within the bag can cause delays. The accessories are usually attached by the way of various well known mechanical fasteners such as spring loaded clips and the like.

These attachment methods have some drawbacks. First, the accessories themselves such as brushes and towels are often inexpensive items with correspondingly inexpensive fasteners, which have a tendency to break from repeated use before the accessory itself. Also, in the case of a towel, the user has to bend over to raise the towel up for use. Finally, if there are many accessories on the bag, they can become entangled as they are often hung from only one or two spots on the bag. Particularly problematic are towel and wire club brushes, as the wires from the brush can become entangled with the fibers of the towel, often damaging or ruining both.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is a golf towel assembly which attaches to a golf bag. The assembly includes a towel provided with at least one magnet and a slit, the magnet and slit both facilitating attachment to the golf bag. The magnet can be attached to a metal clip already positioned on the bag or alternatively to a metal target affixed to the bag such as a fastener.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 illustrates the inventive assembly positioned on a golf bag.

FIG. 2 illustrates details of the inventive assembly.

FIG. 3 illustrates a method of use of the inventive assembly.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Golfers require a few accessories in order to play a round of golf, these accessories including various items for maintaining and cleaning the golf equipment. There are club brushes, towels, divot repair tools, ball markers, and various other items. A โ€œstandardโ€ golf bag accordingly has many pockets and storage areas for containing these accessories, as well the balls, tees, and other golf equipment. The golf bag will typically have loops, clips, or fasteners to allow for attaching exteriorly mounted accessories such as towels and brushes. The present invention provides a golf towel assembly where various components are added to increase the function and utility of the towel.

Referring now to FIGS. 1-3, the inventive assembly, generally indicated by the numeral 10, is shown. The assembly 10 consist of 3 components, a towel 20 formed of water absorbing sheet material such as terrycloth or microfiber. The material itself may be cotton, linen, or other absorbent sheet material useful for wiping and drying wet surfaces. As is known, a golf towel serves several purposes. It can be used to dry clubheads after cleaning, to dry hands, to dry grips, and to cover clubs during heavy rain. The material 20 is in two layers, upper 22 and lower 24, between which a magnet 30 is disposed. The magnet 30 may be circular, rectangular, or any other shape but should have sufficient surface area and strength to firmly attach to a metal surface as would be apparent to one of skill in the art. However, a minimum of about 4 square inches is necessary to perform all of the functions of the assembly 10 as explained in more detail later.

Magnet 30 can facilitate two functions of the assembly 10. First, the magnet 30 can attach to a metal clip or metallic attachment plate 32 secured to the golf bag 34, which clips and plates are common on golf bags. The magnet 30 can alternatively be attached to any sufficiently large metallic object positioned on the golf bag 34 such as a spring loaded fastener or carabiner clip. The magnet 30 can also be used to manipulate the towel 20 by way of a clubhead 38. As can be seen in FIG. 3, the towel 20 can be manipulated by attracting the magnet 30 to the clubhead 38. This action facilitates manipulation of the towel 20 from a distance, reducing or eliminating the need to bend down to reach the towel. This is particularly useful when cleaning multiple clubs, as the user may need to alternate between using a brush or other club cleaning device to clean the club, followed by drying with the towel 20.

A centrally formed slit 40 is positioned on the towel 20, the slit sized to allow for the insertion of a golf clubhead 38 therethrough, this facilitating secure positioning of the towel on the bag 34. The slit 40 is about 4 inches long or shorter, to allow for the facile protrusion of a golf clubhead therethrough. When so positioned, the towel 20 can be easily accessed, also without bending over. Additionally, with the towel 20 positioned on the top of the golf bag 34, it can be manipulated to cover all of the clubheads and prevent water from reaching the grips in rainy weather.

A brush 44 is attached to the assembly 10, stitched in or otherwise securely attached within the layers 22, 24 of the towel 20. The brush 44 may be formed of a rigid plastic base and have plastic or wire bristles.

In use, a user can attach the assembly 10 to a golf bag 34 using magnet 30 as described above. Once attached, the user may then use the towel 20 and brush in the usual manner. The user may alternatively position the assembly 10 over a single clubhead 38 via slit 40, preferably with the brush 44 facing up.

Claims

It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the sole embodiment described above, but encompasses any and all embodiments within the scope of the following claims:

1. A golf towel assembly comprising:

a sheet of material having at least one layer, said at least one layer having a magnet affixed thereto;

a brush affixed to said sheet material; and,

a slit formed in said sheet of material.
