More specifically, the untucked bed sheet set 100 includes a fitted bed sheet 102 which is configured to be positioned over a mattress and a top or flat bed sheet 104 which is positioned on top of the fitted bed sheet 102. In use, an individual positions their body between the fitted bed sheet 102 and the top bed sheet 104.

The fitted bed sheet 102 includes a top side 106, an underside 108 and at least two fasteners 110, 112 (i.e., in the form of buttons). The fitted bed sheet 102 includes an elastic material 114 supplied along the corners 116a-d (116d is diagonally opposite to 116b) that help the fitted bed sheet 102 fit snugly to the mattress. In some embodiments, the elastic material 114 can be supplied along the peripheral edge 118 of the fitted bed sheet 102 (the peripheral edge 118 runs continuously along the perimeter of the fitted sheet 102). The fasteners (i.e., buttons) 110, 112 are sewn to the top side 106 of the fitted bed sheet 102 near or proximal to the bottom edge 120 adapted to be positioned at the foot of a bed/mattress 202. Preferably, the fasteners (i.e., buttons) 110, 112 can be disposed from about 2 inches to about 4 inches from the front end 120 of the lip 118 to accommodate mattress of different heights. The fasteners (i.e., buttons) 110, 112 function as anchor points for the top bed sheet 104 and help the top bed sheet 104 to remain in place.

The top bed sheet 104 includes two fastener receivers 122, 124 which are preferably in the form of buttonholes. The buttonholes 122, 124 are disposed such that they are aligned with the fasteners 110, 112 of the fitted bed sheet 102. The fasteners 110, 112 are inserted through the buttonholes 122, 124 to removably attach (i.e., anchor) the fitted bed sheet 102 and the top bed sheet 104. In the preferred embodiment, the width (measured along arrow “W”) of the fitted bed sheet 102 is equal or more than the width of the top bed sheet 104. Further, length (measured along arrow “L”) of the top bed sheet 104 is preferably equal to length of the mattress on which the sheet set 100 is used and the top bed sheet 104 covers the top surface of the mattress.

FIG. 2 illustrates a perspective view showing the untucked bed sheet set of the present invention used on a mattress in accordance with the disclosed structure. The fitted bed sheet 102 snugly fits over the mattress 202 and can be tucked underneath the mattress 202. The fitted bed sheet 102 is positioned such that the fasteners (i.e., buttons) 110, 112 are positioned near foot of the bed 204 or the mattress 202. The top bed sheet 104 is secured to the fitted bed sheet 102 by inserting the fasteners (i.e., buttons) 110, 112 on the fitted sheet 102 through the buttonholes 122, 124 on the top bed sheet 104. The fasteners (i.e., buttons) 110, 112 attach the top bed sheet 104 to the fitted sheet 102 at the foot of the bed. Further, the top bed sheet 104 remains in place at the foot, obviating the need for a user to tuck the top bed sheet 104 under the mattress 202. The sides 206, 208 and the head 210 of the top bed sheet remain free and can hang naturally over the mattress 202.

It should be noted that the untucked bedsheet set obviates the need to lift the mattress 202 to tuck the top bed sheet 104, making it easier to set up and maintain the bed. The sheet set 100 keeps the bed looking tidy without the bulk of tucked-in sheets.

FIG. 3 illustrates a perspective view showing another embodiment of the untucked bedsheet set of the present invention in accordance with the disclosed structure. In the present embodiment, the top side 304 of the fitted bed sheet 302 includes a pair of magnetic fasteners 306, 308 near the front edge 310 of the fitted bed sheet 302. The underside 312 of the top bed sheet 314 also includes a pair of corresponding magnetic fasteners 316, 318 which have opposite polarity as of the polarities of the magnetic fasteners 306, 308. The opposite sets of magnetic fasteners 306, 316 and 308, 318 fasten to each other to enable the fitted sheet 302 and the top bed sheet 314 to removably secure to each other while allowing the other sides of the top bed sheet 314 free.

It should be noted that in some embodiments, the top bed sheet and the fitted bed sheet can be sewn to each other at the positions where the fasteners are disposed and thereby, obviating need of fasteners. In such cases, the top bed sheet and the fitted bed sheet are integrated to each other. Other fastening means including but not limited to zippers, pins, snaps, hook and loop fasteners, and other sliding fasteners can be used for removably securing the top bed sheet and the fitted bed sheet.

In different embodiments, both the fitted sheet and top sheet can be made from self-cleaning fabrics, stretchable and shape-memory materials, hypoallergenic, and antimicrobial fabrics. Further, the top bed sheet can be designed in the form of a comforter or blanket. The top bed sheet can also be reversible, with top side for warm weather and the underside for cool weather.

In some embodiments, the top bed sheet can have a size equal to the size of the fitted sheet with the top bed sheet can be tucked underneath the mattress at foot of the bed, while being free at the sides and at head of the bed.

As an example, the fasteners are disposed in the fitted sheet based on the button spacing as per the formula:

S = W / ( n + 1 )

    • n: Number of fasteners
    • W: Width of the mattress
    • S: Fastener Spacing

Also, as an example, where A is the fitted sheet's length and B is the mattress height, fasteners are placed parallel to the foot of the mattress and can be placed at Button Placement Height=A−(B+0.1×B), enabling easy accessibility of the fasteners and offset the mattress dimensions.

FIG. 4 illustrates a flow chart depicting a process of using the untucked bedsheet set of the present invention in accordance with the disclosed structure. Initially, the fitted sheet is placed on a mattress and is tucked underneath the mattress (Step 402). The fitted sheet is positioned such that the fasteners are placed near the foot of the bed. Then, the top bed sheet is positioned over the fitted sheet such that the fastener receivers are aligned with the fasteners of the fitted sheet (Step 404). Thereafter, the sheets are secured by engaging the fasteners with the fastener receivers (Step 406). Finally, the top bed sheet covers the mattress's top surface and hangs freely over the sides (Step 408).
