The present invention relates generally to an herbal cigarette and method of making the same. In particular, embodiments relate to figurine shaped herbal cigarettes, e.g., in the shape of dinosaurs, airplanes, logos of sports teams, etc., and method of making the same.
The history of smoking is thought to have begun as early as 5000 BC, when tobacco was cultivated in Mesoamerica and South America for shamanistic rituals. Since then, and particularly since the beginning of the 21st century, the ways in which people consume certain organic materials, such as herbs, tobacco, cannabis, etc., and the reasons for such consumption, have proliferated. Various conditions and their associated symptoms, such as severe and chronic pain, epilepsy, Crohn's disease, anorexia, and PTSD, can be relieved by consuming a variety of organic materials. Some examples of ways to consume organic material include vaping, eating, smoking, or through the use of topicals. While vaping has become a more popular alternative to smoking in recent years, smoking remains the preferred method of introducing relevant compounds found in certain organic materials into the body.
It is well known to roll organic material into the stereotypical cylindrical shape of a cigarette using rolling papers. First, organic material is ground. Then, the ground organic material is placed on top of a rolling paper. Next, while holding both ends of the rolling paper, the ground organic material and rolling paper are rolled together between the thumbs and middle fingers, and formed into a cylindrical or conical shape. Once the cigarette is in a cylindrical or conical shape, and only the adhesive edge of the rolling paper remains, the adhesive edge is licked or moistened to become activated, and the cigarette is then further rolled to seal the edge. A cigarette can be rolled by hand as described above, but can also be rolled with the use of mechanical devices to assist in the rolling process. However, rolling cigarettes by hand or with the assistance of a mechanical device, as well as by other known methods as discussed below, results in the formed cigarette being cylindrical or conical in shape, leaving little room for any creativity in how the cigarette's final form is shaped and designed.
For example, U.S. Pat. No. 11,013,256 discloses a device and method for forming a cigar shaped object that includes a mold, having at least one cigar shaped pocket, a rod aligned within the pocket, and a separate tamping device. The mold recesses have a substantially semi-cylindrical shape that, when pressed together, form a pocket that is substantially cylindrical.
Another example is shown in U.S. Pat. No. 10,759,128, which discloses a fully formed, freestanding, curvilinear shaped hashish cigarette product and method of making the same. Resinous trichomes are mechanically separated from cured cannabis and then pressed into a pliable sheet of “hashish.” The pliable sheet of hashish is then rolled at least one full rotation around the circumference of an object having a curvilinear shape, for example, a circular metal die. The object around which the pliable sheet of hashish is rolled is then removed, leaving a fully formed, rigid, curvilinear geometrically shaped cigarette product.
Thus, there is a long felt need to produce herbal cigarettes that are of shapes and designs other than cylindrical or curvilinear. The novelty of forming herbal cigarettes into a variety of three-dimensional shapes, or figurines, can be leveraged at events tailored to the consumption of herbal cigarettes, or at businesses selling herbal cigarettes and associated products, to catch the eye of potential consumers.
