TECHNICAL FIELD

Various embodiments relate generally to games and game boards.

BACKGROUND

Children's games come in various types, each offering unique benefits. Physical games like tag, hide-and-seek, and ball games improve motor skills, coordination, and physical fitness. Board games such as chess, checkers, and Monopoly enhance strategic thinking, patience, and problem-solving abilities. Imaginative play, including role-playing and pretend games, boosts creativity, social skills, and emotional understanding. Educational games, like puzzles, memory games, and educational apps, promote cognitive development and learning in areas like math, language, and science. Social games, including group activities and team sports, teach cooperation, communication, and teamwork.

SUMMARY

Apparatus and associated methods relate to a deployable gameboard system including at least one panel with a planar body and cavities configured to receive puck-shaped game pieces. In an illustrative example, the deployable gameboard features a backboard extending along a longitudinal axis and defining a planar surface, including a handle along a transverse edge and a cavity on an interior-facing side configured to receive the panel in a stowed mode. The backboard includes a plurality of transverse recess cavities configured to engage corresponding transverse protrusions in a deployed mode. In the stowed mode, the panel is received within the backboard's central cavity, enclosing the cavities and puck-shaped game pieces. In the deployed mode, the backboard is coupled to the panel, with the panel lying flat and the transverse recess cavities matingly engaging the transverse protrusions to secure the backboard upright. This configuration advantageously enhances portability and stability during gameplay.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF ILLUSTRATIVE EMBODIMENTS

To aid understanding, this document is organized as follows. First, to help introduce discussion of various embodiments, a deployable board game system is introduced with reference to FIG. 1. Second, that introduction leads into a description with reference to FIGS. 2-3 of some exemplary embodiments of the deployable board game in various modes. Third, with reference to FIGS. 4-6B, the gameboard is described in application to exemplary storage and play functionalities.

Apparatus and associated methods relate to a pitching pennies kit that includes a gameboard with both a stowage and deployed mode. In an illustrative example, the gameboard features a handle for portability in stowage mode and can stow a series of 4 sets of 2 pucks. The gameboard, for example, includes a backboard, a scoring area, and is made of dry eraser-friendly material. A user may, for example, keep track of the score of the players as they are playing. Various embodiments may advantageously allow users to keep track of scores as they play and transition the gameboard to a deployed mode, placing the scoring area on the ground or floor and using the backboard to complete the setup.

Various embodiments may achieve one or more advantages. For example, some embodiments may enable portability and setup, allowing up to 4 players to participate by taking turns to throw pucks from a predetermined distance, with the closest puck to the backboard or wall winning. Additionally, the unitary embodiment with a hinged backboard and scoring area provides convenient storage and quick assembly. The dry eraser-friendly material enhances user experience by simplifying scorekeeping. Furthermore, the versatility in setup, whether using the included backboard or a wall, adds to the game's adaptability in various environments.

FIG. 1 depicts an exemplary deployable board game in an illustrative use-case scenario 100. A user 105 is shown throwing a puck 110 toward the deployed game board, with a puck previously thrown 110a visible. The game board includes a scoreboard 120 that is mounted on the backboard 125, which may be configured in some embodiments to store pucks on its reverse side 120a. The scoreboard 120 and backboard 125 may couple together using male and female parts to provide secure attachment. The backboard 125 features handles 125a that facilitate carrying in some embodiments. A storage container 130 may house game components, while the scoreboard 135 can be stored inside the backboard for convenience.

FIG. 2 shows an illustrative use-case scenario 200 of the deployable board game in a deployed mode. In some embodiments, the scoreboard 120 includes a 205 handle for improved portability. The backboard 125 and scoreboard 120 may utilize interlocking protrusions 210 to enhance stability during gameplay. A scoreboard insertion coupling piece 220 may be provided to simplify assembly and disassembly in some embodiments. The game board may include a smooth playing surface to ensure consistent puck movement. Color-coded target areas may be present to aid scoring and improve game accessibility for all users.

FIG. 3 depicts an illustrative use-case scenario 300 showing the score surface 305. An insertion with protrusion receiver method 310 may be employed in some embodiments to secure the scoreboard 315 to the backboard 125. The scoreboard 315 highlights stowed pucks, which may be flipped to create a double flat surface for gameplay. In some embodiments, the double-sided design offers greater flexibility in gameplay configurations. The design may ensure that all game components remain securely in place during transport. This configuration helps maintain the game board's durability and overall aesthetic.

FIG. 4 shows an illustrative use-case scenario 400, highlighting the process of stowing 405 the scoreboard 410 by a user 415. In some embodiments, the user 415 may utilize an ergonomic handle 205 for added convenience. The design may include mechanisms to secure the scoreboard 410 in a stowed position, preventing accidental openings. Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A deployable gameboard system comprising:

at least one panel including a planar body and a series of cavities configured to receive rubber puck-shaped game pieces;

a plurality of rubber puck-shaped game pieces;

a backboard extending along a longitudinal axis and defining a planar surface, the backboard comprising:

a central cavity on an interior-facing side configured to receive the at least one panel in a stowed mode; and,

a plurality of transverse recess cavities configured to engage a plurality of transverse protrusions in a deployed mode;

wherein, in the stowed mode, the at least one panel is received within the central cavity of the backboard, enclosing the cavities and the plurality of rubber puck-shaped game pieces; and,

wherein, in the deployed mode, the backboard is coupled to the at least one panel, the at least one panel lies flat, and the plurality of transverse recess cavities matingly engage the plurality of transverse protrusions to secure the backboard in an upright position.

2. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1 further comprising, a handle along a transverse edge.

3. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of rubber puck-shaped game pieces are stored within the cavities of the at least one panel in the stowed mode.

4. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the at least one panel is configured to lie flat on a horizontal surface during gameplay.

5. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the backboard further comprises at least one coupling feature that engages with the at least one panel to facilitate deployment.

6. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the at least one panel is removable from the backboard.

7. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of transverse protrusions are integrally formed on the at least one panel.

8. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the backboard comprises a material configured such that the backboard can be written on and erased for scorekeeping.

9. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the backboard and the at least one panel are constructed from a lightweight and durable plastic material.

10. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the handle comprises a grip portion that includes a textured surface for enhanced grip by a user.

11. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of rubber puck-shaped game pieces comprise a rubber material.

12. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the at least one panel comprises multiple target zones to support different game variations.

13. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the backboard further includes a locking device configured such that the locking device secures the at least one panel in the stowed mode.

14. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of transverse recess cavities and the plurality of transverse protrusions are configured to provide a snap-fit connection in the deployed mode.

15. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the backboard further comprises graphics or markings to indicate scoring zones.

16. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the handle comprises an hinge device configured such that the hinge releases a latch to enable unfolding of the backboard.

17. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the at least one panel comprises two or more panels joined via a hinge device.

18. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1 further comprising feet protrusions.

19. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the at least one panel is configured such that the at least one panel is stored within the backboard in a double-sided manner to support alternative game configurations.

20. The deployable gameboard system of claim 1, wherein the at least one panel and the backboard are configured such that the at least one panel and the backboard can be folded together into a compact profile for transport.
