Description

RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the benefit of provisional application No. 63/676,094, filed on Jul. 26, 2024.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention generally relates to exercise equipment and more particularly to a multi-purpose, portable exercise device for performing a variety of upper body exercises.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Numerous types of bars, arm twisters, upper body resistance bands, weightlifting bars and similar exercise equipment have long been used by individuals for developing bodily strength, muscle tone, and overall physical fitness. Much of this equipment includes elongated, straight, angled, or bendable exercise bars which, although they may be portable, limit the kinds of exercises the user can actually do with them. Thus, the use of these exercise devices severely restricts their versatility and hence their effectiveness. The straight bars utilize conventional free weights affixed to each end, e.g. barbells and dumbbells. This type of equipment involves the use of many different components, e.g. the bar, various free weights of different sizes, configurations and weights, locking collars, etc. Such equipment is conducive for working out in gyms or fitness centers. However, they are certainly not readily portable, especially given the number and weight of the components.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is thus the object of the present invention to overcome the disadvantages and limitations of existing bar type exercise equipment by providing an upper body exercise device which is portable, relatively lightweight, easy to use, and has the versatility to function as a device conducive for use in performing a variety of different exercises, utilizing the device by itself or in combination with other weight training components.

These and other objects are accomplished by the present invention, an upper body exercise device comprising a central support member having an upper end and a lower end, the lower end of the central support member having an upturned section consisting of a laterally extending curved hook. A first arm member laterally extends at an angle from the upper end of the central support number, and a second arm member laterally extends at an angle from the upper end of the opposite side of the central support member. The first and second arm members each have outboard second handles rotatably connected to the first handles of each of the arm members. Different weights can be hung down from the curved hook to enhance the versatility of the exercise device.

The novel features which are considered as characteristic of the invention are set forth in particular in the appended claims. The invention itself, however, both as to its design, construction and use, together with additional features and advantages thereof, are best understood upon review of the following detailed description with reference to the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the exercise device of the present invention.

FIG. 2 is a top view of the exercise device of the present invention.

FIG. 3 illustrates one position in which the exercise device of the present invention can be used.

FIG. 4 illustrates another position in which the exercise device of the present invention can be used.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Upper body exercise device 1 of the present invention comprises central support member 2 having upper end 4 and lower end 6. Cut out section 8 is located through upper end 4 of central support member 2. Lower end 6 of central support member 2 has an upturned section in the form of a laterally extending curved hook 10. Opening 12 extends through curved hook 10.

First arm member 14 extends laterally upward at an angle from upper end 4 of central support member 2. A first inboard handle 16 is attached and extends perpendicularly to first arm member 14. A second outboard handle 18 is rotatably connected at the end of inboard handle 16 by means of a swivel component or like mechanism 20.

Second arm member 22 extends laterally upward at angle from the opposite side of upper end 4 of the central support member 2. A first inboard handle 24 is attached and extends perpendicularly to second arm member 22. A second outboard handle 26 is rotatably connected at the end of the inboard handle 24 by means of a swivel component or like mechanism 28. Central support member 2, first arm member 14, and second arm member 22 form exercise device 1 in a V-shaped in configuration.

The rotational versatility of handles 18 and 26 is illustrated in FIG. 2. These handles can each be rotated R to and between positions 18R and 26R.

Exercise device 1 can be used in a variety of ways to affect different parts and muscles of the upper body. As seen in FIG. 3, device 1 can be held around inboard handles 16 and 24, with knuckles facing each other. As seen in FIG. 4, user 50 can also grasp outboard handles 18 and 26 with knuckles facing outward and arms against the chest. While holding handles 18 and 26 in this position, handle 18 can also be rotated about swivel 20 in a counter-clockwise direction in relation to the chest of user 50 and handle 26 can be rotated in a clockwise direction in relation to the user's chest, such that the user's arms are angled outward from the chest. Different exercises can be performed by utilizing each of these different hand on handles holding positions.

The positions in which device 1 is held, as described herein, are not to be considered so restricted. The device can be held in any variety of positions, depending on the type of exercise and comfort of the user.

The versatility of exercise device 1 is further enhanced by the ability to hang different weighted components, such as kettle weight 30, from laterally extending curved hook 10, to hang a chain type weight through opening 12, or position a weighted rod within cut out section 8.

Certain novel features and components of this invention are disclosed in detail in order to make the invention clear in at least one form thereof. However, it is to be clearly understood that the invention as disclosed is not necessarily limited to the exact form and details as disclosed, since it is apparent that various modifications and changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
