BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Field of Invention

The invention relates to a convertible backpack garment assembly which folds and converts into a backpack. Specifically, a person can wear this upper garment, for example, a vest over their upper body. If the person later wishes to convert the vest into a backpack, they can do so in accordance with the present invention. Conversely, a person can carry this convertible backpack garment assembly and use it to carry various articles. If the person later wishes to convert the backpack into an upper garment such as, for example, a vest, they can do so in accordance with the present invention. The convertible backpack garment assembly folds into a backpack for a person to carry and converts into an upper garment for a person to wear.

Brief Review of Related Art

For background, there is a large market of clothing designers who create upper garments for people to wear, such as short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, sweaters, vests, and coats to name a few. Additionally, there is a large commercial market for backpacks, sacks, packs, and other types of bags for people to carry additional items. Further, there is a market for both of these for people who may go hiking on the weekends, hunting, fishing, backpacking across Europe, or just spending time outside. However, not everyone always needs to wear an extra layer of clothing as the temperature fluctuates during the day, and not everyone wants to carry around a bag all day, which can strain a person's back from carrying the weight behind the person's body.

For example, a person may begin the day wearing a jacket, but later decide to take the jacket off as the weather turns warmer and the temperature increases. That person may not want to take the jacket off, because they are concerned about forgetting or losing it. Thus, it would be desirable to have a jacket that can be easily converted into a backpack that can be carried over the shoulder.

Likewise, an outdoor hiker may begin the day wearing a backpack containing gear and other provisions as they begin their hike. However, the hiker may later decide to take the backpack off as the weather could turn colder and the temperature decreases. Thus, it would be desirable to have a backpack that can be easily converted into a jacket that can be ordinarily worn. The problem is what to do with an upper garment that a person does not want to wear anymore, or a backpack that a person does not want to carry anymore. The invention here solves both problems of wearing an upper garment or carrying a backpack around all day. The invention here allows a person to remove an upper garment, convert it into a backpack, and carry it as such. In addition, the invention here allows a person to remove that same backpack, convert it to an upper garment, and wear the upper garment without carrying a backpack.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a person wearing an upper garment or backpack. The present invention allows a person to take off the upper garment, fold it, and zip up the upper garment to create a backpack that a person may carry. The invention here further contains several pockets on the outside portion of the upper garment, and when folded, creates several new pockets on the outside and inside. The invention further may be folded without needing to remove items from said pockets. In addition, the invention here uses straps for the backpack shoulder straps which may be converted to a belt. In addition, the present invention allows for better weight distribution when carrying larger loads. The present invention may be created using any number of different types of materials, including but not limited to, ripstop, polyester, cotton, blends, or other materials. As such, an aspect of the present invention is washability and durability.

The upper garment may be, but is not limited to, short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, sweaters, vests, and coats or other garments. The backpack may be, but is not limited to, backpacks, sacks, packs, or other types of bags for people to carry additional items. The backpack may be, but is not limited to, a handbag, shoulder bag, or other purpose.

The present invention provides for a person to convert an upper garment into a backpack or a backpack into an upper garment. In one preferred embodiment, the convertible backpack garment assembly comprises: a) a front surface having upper portion, a lower portion, a lower left quadrant, and a lower right quadrant; b) a backside surface having upper, lower, left, and right portions; c) a left side expansion zipper with a pulling side and receiving side; d) a right side expansion zipper with a pulling side and receiving side; e) a lower zipper with a pulling side and receiving side; f) two shoulder straps; g) a belt loop; h) a connector ring; and i) several exterior pockets. In one embodiment, the present invention has seventeen pockets, including large or extra capacity pockets, which can be accessed while the present invention is folded or unfolded. The present invention is not to be limited to this number of pockets but is used for the purpose of providing an example.

In one embodiment, the garment is folded in half horizontal so that the upper portion is showing. The garment is then folded in half horizontally, the right side folded over the left side. The lower pulling side zipper is attached to the lower receiving side zipper and zipped up. The left side expansion side pulling zipper is attached to the right-side expansion side receiving zipper and zipped up.
