The present invention relates to interactive electronic devices specifically designed for children. More particularly, it concerns child-oriented toys embedded with artificial intelligence modules enabling secure, filtered conversational interactions, and integrates a cloud-based parental management platform providing real-time supervision and configuration capabilities.
Interactive devices for children have rapidly evolved, including conventional interactive toys with limited pre-programmed responses and the proliferation of general-purpose artificial intelligence assistants such as smart speakers and mobile AI applications.
Thus, there is an unmet need for an integrative and dedicated solution that:
This invention addresses these deficiencies by delivering a fully integrated hardware-software-cloud platform solution specifically designed for safe, transparent, and enjoyable child-AI interaction
The present invention relates to an interactive device system specifically designed for safe and controlled use by children. The system consists of a physical playful object, such as a plush toy, or other non limited figure object, equipped with an embedded electronic module, integrated with or operably associated with the playful object. This module incorporates at least one processor, memory, audio interface (microphone and speaker), and supports both wired and wireless connectivity. Each device is uniquely paired to a single child through a secure identifier, ensuring personalized operation and preventing device sharing.
Central to the invention is a sophisticated multi-layered artificial intelligence engine that governs all conversational and educational interactions with the child. This engine integrates:
Together, these components accurately identify and block sensitive content categories, including violence, hate speech, addiction, sexuality, and self-harm, ensuring a safe and age-appropriate engagement across diverse interaction scenarios emotional and educative.
Complementing this intelligent filtering system, the invention incorporates a secure, cloud-based parental platform delivered as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). This platform provides a comprehensive dashboard enabling guardians to manage one or multiple child profiles by user ID electronic module, monitor interaction data in real time and historically, configure usage settings, and receive timely alerts. Designed with stringent security provisions and privacy-by-design principles, the platform guarantees robust data protection and full regulatory compliance.
The electronic module locally encrypts and stores all interaction data to enable secure offline operation, with automatic synchronization to the cloud platform upon network availability. The parental dashboard supports detailed review of time-stamped logs, real-time alerting of content concerns, and flexible configuration of child-specific parameters such as spoken language, voice gender, and usage restrictions.
Further, the system enforces a privacy-by-design architecture characterized by end-to-end encryption, data minimization, pseudonymization, multi-factor authentication, and adherence to applicable child data protection laws. Optional hardware components like cameras or displays are integrated under the same rigorous safety and privacy standards.
By combining dedicated child-specific hardware, advanced adaptive AI content filtering, unique per-child device pairing, secure offline and online data management, and a comprehensive configurable parental oversight platform, this invention significantly advances the safety and functionality of interactive child-device experiences beyond the prior.
FIG. 1.
General schematic of the child-oriented interactive system comprising:
The pipeline comprises:
The pipeline blocks the interaction if any stage exceeds a predefined sensitivity threshold, thereby ensuring high detection accuracy and child safety.
The system is an integrated platform embedded within a physical playful object designed for child interaction. The toy device continuously listens for pre-defined wake words using local AI processing to minimize latency and allow offline operation. When a wake word is detected, the system activates a multi-layer processing pipeline that manages audio capture, content filtering, secure communication, AI response generation, and parental supervision.
The toy device comprises a microphone for audio input, a speaker for audio output, and an AI processing unit performing local wake word detection and initial audio transformation. A secure microcontroller and a hardware secure element implement device authentication and cryptographic key storage, ensuring secure communication and unique pairing to a single child profile. A power source supports continuous operation while network interfaces enable Wi-Fi or other connectivity to cloud infrastructure.
The recorded voice input passes through sequential stages of filtering:
Filtered inputs and generated AI responses are transmitted via encrypted MQTT over TLS channels to a robust cloud IoT gateway, where a policy engine applies parental filtering rules. The entire communication is protected using a hardware-secured cryptographic framework, maintaining integrity and confidentiality of data and unique device pairing.
The device handles offline scenarios by locally encrypting and storing interaction logs when connectivity is lost. Upon re-connection, logs synchronize securely with the cloud parental dashboard, preserving a comprehensive and tamper-proof history of interactions and ensuring operational continuity.
A cloud-hosted SaaS parental dashboard manages multiple children's profiles and roles of guardians or educators with multi-factor authentication and role-based access control. It displays real-time and historical logs, configurable alert parameters, usage analytics, and enforces privacy-by-design principles including data minimization, pseudonymization, encryption, and deletion policies.
The architecture supports expansion to include video capture, displays, or additional sensors, all governed by the system's secure filtering and privacy protection framework, ensuring consistent child-safe interactive experiences.
The system of the invention may employ artificial intelligence (AI) techniques including, but not limited to, machine learning, deep learning, neural networks, or any other computational intelligence methods. The AI components can utilize known or future-developed algorithms, data sets, or training methods that produce technical effects contributing to improved performance, adaptive interaction, or secure communication within the toy system. Details regarding training data and methods may vary but are integral to achieving the invention's technical advantages.
In certain embodiments, the parental management platform provides a graphical user interface (GUI) that enables guardians to view child interaction logs, configure device settings, manage user accounts, and receive categorized alerts. The GUI dynamically adapts its display elements and access rights according to each authorized guardian's privilege level.
In alternative implementations, the physical device may be embodied as a wearable such as a smartwatch, wristband, pendant, or connected clothing item, while preserving all of the features and protections described for the primary playful object.
The embedded electronic module may further include security subsystems that prevent unauthorized copying, resetting, or bypassing of the child-specific identifier. These subsystems can include cryptographic binding of device identity and automatic suspension of module operation upon detection of tampering or duplication attempts.
Additionally, the electronic module may incorporate state management logic for disabling conversational or sensitive operations during inactivity, sleep mode, or in response to unauthorized input, with automatic reactivation only upon authenticated child or guardian interaction.
In some embodiments, all or part of the parental dashboard and content filtering pipeline are implemented as software components deployed on a secure cloud platform, the software comprising computer-executable instructions for managing child profiles, filtering child interactions, generating alerts, and enforcing privacy and security mechanisms.
This invention provides a dedicated interactive child device that integrates:
