CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 63/650,957 filed May 23,2024 by Warren Whitaker. The application is entitled “An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device for Golf”.

FIELD OF INVENTION

This invention relates to an Improved and Portable Putting Aid device for Golf. The invention generally relates to golfing, and golf aids and more particularly to methods and devices to aid a golfer for improving putting. The present invention relates to a putting practice machine and a putting aid relates to an improved golf ball putting aid for use by a golfer. This practice device is directed to improve golf putting mechanical skills and mental image visualization skills. It relates to devices that assist golfers in improving their game and, more particularly, to devices that assist in perfecting a golfer's putting stroke. The golf ball putting aid is used to train and practice hitting and putting a golf ball more accurately.

BACKGROUND—FIELD OF INVENTION AND PRIOR ART

As far as known, there are no other Improved and Portable Putting Aid devices for Golf with the same features and functions. This putting aid device does not appear to serve to achieve the same ultimate purpose or purposes which is solving the same technical problem, perform the same or in general an analogous function (in the context of the solution as a whole). Any equivalence to other similar devices for improving the putting ability of one person in the game of golf was unforeseeable at the time the patent application and claims were drafted.

More and more people are taking up golf as a favorite pastime. It is a relaxing way for people to get exercise and enjoy the outdoors. However, golf is a game which requires a fair amount of skill to play effectively and can be very frustrating unless a golfer practices the many aspects of the game. In particular, putting is one of the more difficult tasks in golf to master. As a result, numerous golf aids, and putting aids, have been introduced into the market to aid golfers. Golf is a multi-faceted game requiring the use of a variety of swing techniques depending upon a number of factors such as the lie of the golf ball, the distance to the hole, and the desired line of ball travel. Golf statistics have continued to show that putting, on average, comprises approximately 40 percent of the total golf strokes taken during a golfer's “round” of golf. By improving his or her putting skills, a golfer may significantly lower the number of strokes taken during a round of golf. Furthermore, a golfer may also reduce the number of strokes taken during a round of golf by gaining an understanding of other important aspects of their golf swing and putting stroke such as alignment, swing path and plane, ball position and club face angle at impact in an effort to make fundamental improvements and become a more skillful golfer.

An important element of every golfer's game is putting. With approximately half of most golfer's strokes occurring on or near the green, putting can often make the difference between playing well and playing poorly. A major problem encountered in perfecting the game of golf is the development of consistency in a golfer's putting stroke. In order to perfect one's own putting stroke, practice devices have been developed so that the golfer can repetitively practice putting in order to improve the consistency of his stroke. As golfers improve their skills, being able to putt well continues to be extremely important. Many tournaments are decided by differences of one or two strokes, with the advantage often being gained or lost on account of whether a difficult putt is made. Therefore, regardless of a golfer's level of skill, being able to accurately read a green to determine the angle and force to use for a particular putt remains an important part of a golfer's game.

One of the biggest challenges in the game of golf is putting, not because the putting stroke is particularly difficult to master, but because golf greens all have unique surface shapes which cause the ball to turn, or break, in seemingly unpredictable amounts and directions as it rolls towards the hole. Additionally, the amount of break a putt experiences is conditional on green speed (a measure of frictional resistance of a ball rolling on a green, commonly measured by the Stimpmeter and called the “stimp”) which is not consistent for all courses, or even on the same course within the time period that the round is played. Green speeds can change during the day as the grass dries out and begins to grow after the morning mowing. For example, a putt that breaks 6 inches on a green measuring 8 on the stimpmeter, may break 14 inches—more than twice as much—when the green speed measures at 12. The faster the green speeds, the more a particular putt will break.

Problems Solved

Many problems and shortcomings are solved with the advent of this Improved and Portable Putting Aid device for Golf. These include that the Improved and Portable Putting Aid device for Golf proposed by Whitaker: Can improve the repeatability action and as a result can improve muscle memory; provides fast/quick Learning; the user/person does not have to chase down the golf balls; disassembles and breaks down easily; is assembled without tools; allows the user to develop a consistent stroke for putting; when disassembled, the components of the putting practice device can be contained in a compact, flat box for easy shipment or as a device.

A novelty search was completed for a device like the one described herein as an Improved and Portable Putting Aid device for Golf. This novelty search revealed the following:

    • B. A foreign patent from South Korea No. KR/20230000533A was issued to an undisclosed Korean in 2023 for a Putting practice with green simulation.
    • C. Another foreign patent from South Korea No. KR/20230033222A issued to an undisclosed Korean 2023 for a Virtual golf device and virtual golf system providing golf play information.
    • D. A US patent 5,584, 768 issued to Lee in 1996 was for a Golf Ball Putting Aid.
    • E. A US patent 5,993, 326 was issued to Hinchman et al., in 1999 for a Golf Practice Device.
    • F. A U.S. Pat. No. 6,296,579 was issued to Robinson in 2001 demonstrated another type of a Putting Improvement Device and Method.
    • G. A U.S. Pat. No. 6,638,173 was issued to Robinson in 2003 for a diverse type of a Putting Improvement Device and Method.
    • H. A U.S. Pat. No. 6,923,730 was issued to Potter in 2005 for a Putting Stroke Training Device.
    • I. A US patent 8,162, 779 issued to Sweeny in 2012 described a Putting Guide and Method Apparatus.
    • J. A U.S. Pat. No. 9,821,220 issued to Gupta et al. in 2017 demonstrated and taught Sports Game simulation Systems with User-Specific Guidance and Training Using Dynamic Playing Surface.
    • K. A Patent Application No. US2005/0070370 submitted by Whitaker in 2005 shows a Golf Putting Aid and Method of Using.
    • L. A Patent Application No. US2005/0181885 submitted by Yamanaka in 2005 describes an Apparatus for Practicing the Golf Putting Stroke.
    • M. A Patent Application No. US2008/0242437 submitted by Taylor in 2008 taught a Golf Training Device.
    • N. A Patent Application No. US2010/0087267 submitted by Bauer in 2010 describes and teaches a Golf Training Aid.
    • O. A Patent Application No. US2012/0276965 was submitted by Ok in 2012 for a Virtual Golf Simulation Apparatus Providing Device. And
    • P. A Patent Application No. US2013/0260920 was submitted by Goldsmith in 2013. This application taught a Green Reading Method and Apparatus.

As can be observed, none of the prior art has anticipated or caused one skilled in providing golf aids for improving putting and the like to see this unique invention by Whitiker as obvious to one skilled in the industry of golf or other sporting activities. The device of an Improved and Portable Putting Aid device for Golf appears to avoid all the problems mentioned above as well as the advantages listed below in an efficient and exclusive manner.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

This invention is an Improved and Portable Putting Aid device for Golf. The preferred embodiment of an Improved and Portable Putting Aid device for Golf is made of durable material and comprising: (a) A left hand body and a right hand body, each body wherein the bodies feature a pair of end slots and a top slot for removably connecting to spreaders and wherein each body feature a groove for receiving a card with graphics; (b) a pair of spreaders and a wide spreader, each spreader featuring slots for removably connecting to the Left-hand and right-hand bodies and a wide spreader for removably connecting the Left-hand and right-hand bodies at a 90-degree corner of the bodies; (c) the card with graphics including a cup and a flag; and (d) a storage/shipping container with a handle.

The golf ball putting aid is used to train and practice hitting and putting a golf ball more accurately.

There is shown in FIGS. 1-7 a complete description and operative embodiment of an Improved and Portable Putting Aid device for Golf. FIGS. 7 A through 7 F are sketches of prior art. Here former patents and applications for golf improvement devices and systems are shown. These include: Prior Art 700 Great Britain Patent Application GB/2,452,034 by Lynch in 2009 for a Folding golf putting or chipping aid; Prior Art 710 KR/20230033222A by Korean in 2023 for a Virtual golf device and virtual golf system providing golf play information; Prior Art 720 U.S. Pat. No. 6,923,730 by Potter in 2005 for a Putting Stroke Training Device; Prior Art 730 for a US Patent Application US2005/0070370 by Whitaker in 2005 for a Golf Putting Aid and Method of Using; Prior Art No. 740 U.S. Pat. No. 5,993,326 by Hinchman et al., in 1999 for a Golf Practice Device; and Prior Art No. 750 US Patent 8, 162, 779 by Sweeny in 2012 for a Putting Guide and Method Apparatus. As can be seen, the Improved and Portable Putting Aid device 30 for Golf is a unique device for improving the putts of the golfer 100 with the advantages shown above.

The is a plethora of materials which are suitable for an Improved and Portable Putting Aid device 30 for Golf. These anticipated materials, for example and not as a limitation, include: polymers and plastics such as polystyrene, a common polymer. Operation of the Preferred Embodiment

The preferred embodiment of an Improved and Portable Putting Aid device for Golf is made of durable material and comprising: (a) A left hand body 40L and a right hand body 40R, each body 40L, R wherein the bodies 40L, 40R feature a pair of end slots 41 and a top slot 42 for removably connecting to spreaders 50,50W and wherein each body 40L, 40R feature a groove 45 for receiving a card 60 with graphics; (b) a pair of spreaders 50 and a wide spreader 50W, each spreader featuring slots 55 for removably connecting to the Left-hand and right-hand bodies 40L, 40R and a wide spreader 50W for removably connecting the Left-hand and right-hand bodies 40L, 40R at a 90-degree corner of the bodies 40L, 40R; (c) the card 60 with graphics including a cup 60H and a flag 60G; and (d) a storage/shipping container 90 with a handle 93.

The manner of assembling, disassembling, and using the Improved and Portable Putting Aid device 30 for Golf are as follows:

A. Install

    • 1) Stand up on one side of body 40L and/or 40R and connect spreader 50W on back bottom.
    • 2) Repeat on the other side.
    • 3) Connect top spreader 50 to both sides.
    • 4) Repeat to front.
    • 5) Slip in sleeve/Card 60 from the top. The card 60 should go past/overlap the front of body approximately 2-3 inches.

B. Take Apart/Disassemble

    • 1) Can be used on any flooring (however, a thin nap carpet 7-14 on a stimpmeter works best).
    • 2) A hole 60H represents a realistic view of a cup or rut.
    • 3) From top of card/sleeve 60, the golf ball will roll back at the maximum distance.
    • 4) Line ball up straight back from hole. Practice bringing back ball to same spot.
    • 5) Practice putting straight develops muscle memory and speed.

FIGS. 6 A through 6 D are sketches of a golfer 100 using the Improved and Portable Putting Aid device 30 for Golf. A storage or shipping container 90 with a handle 93 is also presented. Shown are components and features of the Improved and Portable Putting Aid device 30 for Golf in a simple, and useful operation 37 the device 30 by the operator/user 100. Other components shown include: a storage/shipping container 90 with a volume and configuration (length, width, and depth) to accept a fully disassemble Improved and Portable Putting Aid device 30 for Golf; a carrying handle 93 for a storage/shipping container 90; a golf club 99 for user 100 to actually use/operate the Improved and Portable Putting Aid device 30 for Golf; a user or operator 100; a golf ball 105; and a putting surface 150. Claims

What is claimed is:

1. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf made of durable material and comprising:

(a) A left-hand body (40L) and a right-hand body (40R), each body (40L, 40R) wherein the bodies (40L, 40R) feature a pair of end slots (41) and a top slot (42) for removably connecting to spreaders (50,50W) and wherein each body (40L, 40R) feature a groove (45) for receiving a card (60) with illustrations (65);

(b) A pair of elongated spreaders (50) and a wide spreader (50W), each spreader featuring slots (55) for removably connecting to the Left-hand and right-hand bodies (40L, 40R) and a wide spreader (50W) for removably connecting the Left-hand and right-hand bodies (40L, 40R) at a 90-degree corner of the bodies (40L,40R);

(c) the card (60) with an illustration (65) graphics including a cup (60H) and a flag (60F); and

(d) a storage and shipping container (90) with a handle (93)

wherein the Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) can be assembled without tools and can be used by different groups of golf enthusiasts.

2. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 1 wherein the durable material is selected from the group consisting of polymer/plastic and composite materials.

3. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 2 wherein the polymer/plastic is selected from the group consisting of poly vinyl chloride (PVC) (both Flexible and Rigid), Polyethylene (ULDPE, LDPE, MDPE, HDPE), Polypropylene (homopolymer and copolymer), Polystyrene, Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPEs), Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU's)-Polyurethanes, Polycarbonate, Nylon, reinforced nylon, Urethane, and polyurethane.

4. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 2 wherein the composite material is compressed cardboard covered with a polyurethane coating.

5. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 1 wherein the illustration is selected from the group consisting of a set of graphics, a design, and a photo.

6. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 5 wherein the set of graphics is a cup (60H) and a flag (60F).

7. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 1 further comprising a putting surface (150).

8. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 7 wherein the putting surface (150) is selected from the group consisting of a roll of carpet and a roll of outdoor grass-like carpet.

9. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 1 wherein the enthusiast is selected from the group consisting of Young, novice golfers, Old seasoned golfers that want to improve their handy caps, Challenged or Handicapped Golfers, Professionals that see the smallest improvements in putting should, in turn, increase the capability of putting, and a group of people as a Fun or Competition game.

10. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf made of durable material and comprising:

(e) A left-hand body (40L) and a right-hand body (40R), each body (40L, 40R) wherein the bodies (40L, 40R) feature a pair of end slots (41) and a top slot (42) for removably connecting to spreaders (50,50W) and wherein each body (40L, 40R) feature a groove (45) for receiving a card (60) with illustrations (65);

(f) A pair of elongated spreaders (50) and a wide spreader (50W), each spreader featuring slots (55) for removably connecting to the Left-hand and right-hand bodies (40L, 40R) and a wide spreader (50W) for removably connecting the Left-hand and right-hand bodies (40L,40R) at a 90-degree corner of the bodies (40L,40R);

(g) the card (60) with an illustration (65) as graphics including a cup (60H) and a flag (60F);

(h) a storage and shipping container (90) with a handle (93) and

(i) a putting surface (150)

wherein the Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) can be assembled without tools and can be used by different groups of golf enthusiasts.

11. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 10 wherein the durable material is selected from the group consisting of polymer/plastic and composite materials.

12. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 11 wherein the polymer/plastic is selected from the group consisting of poly vinyl chloride (PVC) (both Flexible and Rigid), Polyethylene (ULDPE, LDPE, MDPE, HDPE), Polypropylene (homopolymer and copolymer), Polystyrene, Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPEs), Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU's)-Polyurethanes, Polycarbonate, Nylon, reinforced nylon, Urethane, and polyurethane.

13. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 11 wherein the composite material is compressed cardboard covered with a polyurethane coating.

An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 10 wherein the enthusiast is selected from the group consisting of Young, novice golfers, Old seasoned golfers that want to improve their handy caps, Challenged or Handicapped Golfers, Professionals that see the smallest improvements in putting should, in turn, increase the capability of putting, and a group of people as a Fun or Competition game.

15. An Improved and Portable Putting Aid device (30) for Golf as described in claim 10 wherein the putting surface (150) is selected from the group consisting of a roll of carpet and a roll of outdoor grass-like carpet.
