Description

BACKGROUND

The trend of wearing two pairs of pants has emerged as a creative and bold fashion statement, gaining traction in various subcultures and street styles. This look typically involves layering a pair of trousers over another, often with the inner pair being more fitted and the outer pair being looser or more statement-making. This style not only offers a unique aesthetic but also serves as a practical way to adapt to fluctuating temperatures, providing warmth and versatility.

Fashion influencers and celebrities alike have played a significant role in popularizing this trend, showcasing it on social media platforms and at high-profile events. The dual-pant or layered undergarment look allows for a mix of textures, colors, and patterns, encouraging experimentation and individual expression. Designers are increasingly incorporating this layered approach into their collections, further legitimizing it within the fashion industry and encouraging consumers to embrace unconventional silhouettes.

Moreover, the trend aligns with the broader movement toward sustainability in fashion, as it encourages consumers to repurpose existing garments instead of purchasing new ones. By layering, individuals can create fresh looks from items already in their wardrobe, promoting creativity while reducing waste. This practical aspect has resonated with environmentally conscious shoppers looking to make thoughtful fashion choices.

The trend, however, is not without downsides. For example, wearing more than one pair of pants can be bulky and uncomfortable, and in warmer temperatures or indoors, can feel too hot.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The rising trend of wearing boxers or other undergarments under loose-fitting pants presents several challenges. As this trend has evolved, many wearers have found it challenging to wear certain undergarments under pants with a slimmer silhouette. Layering causes discomfort and distorts the figure. Women are particularly inclined toward this trend and often wear men's boxers under their pants to achieve the layered look. However, since most boxers are designed for the male body, they tend to be uncomfortable and unflattering for women. This challenge also applies to bloomers, as people aim for a layered look with them but struggle to find bloomers that lay properly under pants. Even when bloomers do layer correctly, they often aren't compatible with more form-fitting bottoms that have a slimmer silhouette around the hips.

A layering undergarment minimizer is disclosed herein which provides the appearance of wearing two pairs (or any multiple) of pants, without the downsides associated with actually wearing two pairs of pants. Having the appearance of layering more than one pair of pants reflects a shift toward bold self-expression, versatility, and sustainability in fashion. As this trend continues to evolve, the layering undergarment minimizer invites wearers to explore their personal style while making a statement about their creativity. Whether on the streets or in high fashion, this layered look is likely to remain a captivating element of contemporary style.

An example of a layering undergarment minimizer includes an upper portion configured as an outerwear clothing article, and a lower portion configured as an undergarment article. The layering undergarment minimizer may also include more than one outerwear clothing article in the upper portion. A mid-band portion extends fully about a waist portion and connects the upper clothing article to the lower undergarment article. In an example, the mid-band portion may be a reinforced fabric, or it may be thicker than the upper and lower portions to provide a structure for attachment of the upper portion. The undergarment article may be made of a breathable fabric, and may be configured as a thong for women and as briefs for men.

The layering undergarment minimizer may be worn by pulling on the undergarment article so that the upper portion of the layering undergarment minimizer is above the waistline (or whatever visible position) so that it is visible above a pair of pants, skirt or other clothing item that is pulled on over the undergarment article. For example, a pair of jeans, pants, skirt or any other clothing item may be pulled over the undergarment article, leaving the upper portion of the layering undergarment minimizer visible to give the appearance of wearing multiple (e.g., two or more) layers.

In an example, the layering undergarment minimizer may include an outerwear clothing article configured as boxers.

In an example, the layering undergarment minimizer may include an outerwear clothing article configured as bloomers.

In an example, the layering undergarment minimizer may include an outerwear clothing article configured as sweatpants.

In an example, the layering undergarment minimizer may include an outerwear clothing article configured as denim.

It is noted that the outerwear clothing article may only include that portion of the clothing article which is visible above the waistline.

Other configurations, types and styles of clothing articles for the upper, visible portion may also be provided.

Before continuing, it is noted that as used herein, the terms “includes” and “including” mean, but is not limited to, “includes” or “including” and “includes at least” or “including at least.” The term “based on” means “based on” and “based at least in part on.”

FIG. 1 shows an example layering undergarment minimizer 10 for men and for women. An example layering undergarment minimizer includes an upper portion configured as an outerwear clothing article 12, and a lower portion configured as an undergarment article 14. In the example shown, the undergarment article 14 can be configured as a thong for women made with breathable fabric. In the example shown, the undergarment article 14 can be configured as briefs for men made with breathable fabric. In an example, the undergarment article 14 can be designed to be partially or completely seamless, conforming closely to the body for security, comfort, and discretion.

The layering undergarment minimizer 10 may also include more than one outerwear clothing article 12 in the upper portion. The layering undergarment minimizer 10 may be worn by such that the undergarment article 14 is worn as a typical undergarment (e.g., briefs, thongs or other underwear) so that the upper portion of the layering undergarment minimizer 10 is visible above the waistline or other position. A pair of pants (e.g., jeans 1 and 2 in FIG. 1), skirt or other clothing item is then pulled on over the undergarment article in a typical manner. For example, a pair of jeans, pants, skirt or any other clothing item may be pulled over the undergarment article 14, leaving the upper portion with the outerwear clothing article 12 still visible. This gives the fashion appearance of wearing multiple (e.g., two or more) layers of clothing items such as multiple pants, without the discomfort of having to actually wear clothing items.

In an example, the layering undergarment minimizer 10 may also include a mid-band portion 16. The mid-band portion 16 extends fully about a waist portion of the layering undergarment minimizer 10, and connects the upper clothing article 12 to the lower undergarment article 14. The mid-band portion 16 can be a reinforced fabric, or it may be thicker than the upper and lower portions, and/or include other structure for attachment of the upper portion 12 to the lower portion 14 of the layering undergarment minimizer 10. It is noted that the mid-band portion need not be provided separate from the upper clothing article 12 and the lower undergarment article 14, and may be integral to one or both of these. Indeed, the upper clothing article 12 and the lower undergarment article 14 may be integral to one another (not separate pieces that are connected together).

The selection of materials for layering undergarment minimizer 10 directly affects comfort, durability, and style. Common fabrics that may be used include cotton, denim, polyester, wool, and blends. Cotton is breathable and soft, making it a popular choice for casual wear. Denim, known for its sturdiness, is often used for jeans, while polyester is favored for its wrinkle resistance and moisture-wicking properties. Wool is used for more formal trousers, providing warmth and a polished look. The choice of material also considers the intended use of the layering undergarment minimizer 10. For example, a layering undergarment minimizer 10 for activewear may incorporate stretchy, moisture-wicking fabrics to support movement. Of course, multiple different types of materials can be used, particularly for the upper versus lower portions of the layering undergarment minimizer 10, but even within an upper or lower portion of the layering undergarment minimizer 10. For example, an upper portion having a layered look of both jeans and sweatpants may include denim and sweatpant material, both in the upper portion of the layering undergarment minimizer 10.

Once the material is selected for the layering undergarment minimizer 10, the sewing process begins with careful pattern making. Patterns are created for the outerwear clothing article 12, and separately for the lower undergarment article 14, based on the desired fit and style, which can vary widely from tailored to loose-fitting designs. The fabric is then cut according to these patterns, ensuring that the grain of the fabric aligns correctly to avoid distortion when worn. This step is crucial, as it will affect both the appearance and functionality of the layering undergarment minimizer 10.

Sewing the layering undergarment minimizer 10 involves several techniques, starting with joining the main pieces together. This typically includes sewing the front and back pieces at the side seams, as well as constructing the mid-band portion 16 and attaching the outerwear clothing item 12 and the undergarment article 14. Different types of stitches are employed depending on the fabric and the desired durability. For example, a flat-felled seam may be used for denim for added strength. Other stitching techniques may also be employed. Additionally, finishing techniques like serging or overlocking are used to prevent fraying and improve the longevity of the layering undergarment minimizer 10.

After the main construction is complete, the layering undergarment minimizer 10 undergoes finishing touches such as hemming, adding closures like zippers or buttons, and any decorative elements like embroidery or patches. Quality control is essential at this stage to ensure that the layering undergarment minimizer 10 meets standards and/or desires for fit and finish. The combination of material selection and skilled sewing techniques results in a well-crafted layering undergarment minimizer 10 that balances aesthetics with functionality.

Before continuing, it should be noted that the examples shown and described herein are provided for purposes of illustration, and are not intended to be limiting. Other configurations, types and styles of clothing articles for the upper, visible portion may be provided. Furthermore, while the lower section is shown as particular types of undergarments (e.g., thongs for women, and briefs for men), other configurations, types and styles of undergarments may also be provided for the lower, hidden portion.

FIG. 2 shows front and rear views of an example layering undergarment minimizer 110 configured as boxers for women. Boxers are a type of undergarment that, for men, typically feature a an elastic waistband, and a loose-fitted silhouette that extends down to the mid-thigh, providing comfort and freedom of movement. Women's boxes, while similar in cut, are designed with a contoured fit that accommodates the female form, often incorporating additional features like a wider waistband and softer materials for comfort. Both styles aim to provide a balance of support, coverage, and comfort.

While bloomers are typically not worn by men and thus are not illustrated, it is understood that bloomers may also be provided for men.

Bloomers are typically form-fitting bottoms that add bulk due to lace material. They extend to the mid-thigh or knee and often feature a gathered or ruffled hem, providing a relaxed fit that allows for ease of movement. Bloomers can be styled with various decorative elements, making them both functional and fashionable. Bloomers are often long or short bottoms that create volume with lace, making it difficult to wear them under pants as they may add unnecessary bulk. Additionally, wearing bloomers as bottoms has become a popular trend, as people now prefer to display them as a fashion statement rather than concealing them as traditional undergarments.

The example layering undergarment minimizer shown in FIG. 4 includes the outerwear clothing article 312 configured as bloomers for women having a waistband that is separate from the mid-band portion 316. The outerwear clothing article 312 is also shown as it may be configured as bloomers having a top section of lace.

Sweatpants are comfortable, casual trousers designed for ease of movement and relaxation, with a structure that typically includes an elastic or drawstring waistband for a secure fit. For men, sweatpants usually feature a straight or slightly tapered leg design, often made from soft, breathable fabrics like cotton or fleece. Women's sweatpants, while similar in function, may incorporate a more tailored fit or tapered design, sometimes including stylish details like decorative seams or fitted cuffs. Both styles typically have side pockets and are designed to be worn for various activities, from lounging at home to exercising, providing warmth and comfort.

The example layering undergarment minimizer 410 and 510 shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, respectively, includes the outerwear clothing article for both women (article 412) and men (article 512) configured as sweatpants. The sweatpants have an elastic waistband that is separate from the mid-band portion 416, 516. The outerwear clothing article 412, 512 is also shown as it may be configured as sweatpants having a drawstring. The outerwear clothing article 412, 512 is also shown as it may be configured as sweatpants having a top section of sweatpant material. The outerwear clothing article may be configured for women (article 412) or for men (article 512) based on men's and women's sweatpants fashion and design.

FIG. 7 shows front and rear views of an example layering undergarment minimizer 610 configured as denim or jeans for women. The example layering undergarment minimizer 610 shown in FIG. 7 includes an outerwear clothing article 612, and an undergarment article 614 and a midband portion 616. FIG. 8 shows front and rear views of an example layering undergarment minimizer 710 configured as denim or jeans for men. Denim or jeans are versatile trousers made from sturdy cotton twill fabric, known for their durability and classic style. For men, jeans typically feature a straight or relaxed fit, often with a mid to low-rise waist, and are designed with functional elements like a button fly, belt loops, and multiple pockets, including a coin pocket. Women's jeans, on the other hand, often incorporate a variety of fits, such as skinny or high-rise styles, and may include additional design elements like contoured waistbands or embellishments. Both men's and women's jeans are available in a range of washes and finishes, allowing for diverse styling options while maintaining a timeless appeal.

Denim for the undergarment design (e.g., FIGS. 7 and 8) can incorporate a somewhat stretchy material and be functional with a zipper. In such an example, the fabric may not be traditional denim fabric, as it may have a higher percentage of stretch material (e.g., synthetic elastic fiber) for comfort. However, it will not be a “fake denim” material. This could change during manufacturing, but we aim to use a fabric that stays true to traditional denim qualities.

The example layering undergarment minimizer 610 and 710 shown in FIGS. 7 and 8 for women and men, respectively, includes the outerwear clothing article 612, 712 configured as denim. The outerwear clothing article 612, 712 has a stretchable denim waistband that is separate from the mid-band portion 616, 716. The outerwear clothing article 612, 712 may have a functional button and zipper provided in the waistband. The outerwear clothing article 612, 712 can also have one or more pockets.

The outerwear clothing article 612, 712 shown in FIGS. 7 and 8 for women and men, respectively, is configured as denim having a top section of denim or that appears as the top portion of jeans. The outerwear clothing article 612, 712 is configured as denim or jeans, having a top section of denim material or material that has the appearance of denim (e.g., stretchy fabrics that look like traditional denim). The outerwear clothing article 612, 712 may be configured for men or for women based on men's and women's denim or jeans fashion and design.

It is noted that the examples shown and described are provided for purposes of illustration and are not intended to be limiting. Still other examples are also contemplated.
