Hair combs for care of the hair; Accessories therefor Single-piece combs
The present invention relates generally to hair apparatuses and tools. More specifically the invention is a comb for assisting in un-braiding hair.
Braiding hair is a common practice for men, women, and children around the world. Braiding hair allows one to maintain their hair and keep frizziness at bay. Further, by keeping ones hair in braids it protects the hair by keeping it in a secured style it is less prone to breakage and assists in keeping split ends from occurring. Men, women, and children often add hair extensions to their natural hair, braided together to add length or fullness to one's natural hair length. In addition, adding hair extensions to one's natural hair increases self-esteem, self-love, and a sense of pride. However, removing the braided hair extensions from the natural hair can be a long, painful, expensive, and daunting task.
When removing the braided hair extensions alone, it often causes damage to the natural hair as the natural hair strands break. Furthermore, it would take hours and even days to remove the braided hair extensions from the natural hair. If a second person was needed to assist in removing the petite braids, additional costs would be incurred as it requires a second visit to the stylist to remove the hair extensions from the natural hair. If the proper tool to remove the braid was not used, such as a comb with too many or too tiny of teeth, this enabled the damage to occur. An object of the present invention allows for easy braid removal without the need for a second visit to a stylist.

All illustrations of the drawings are for the purpose of describing selected versions of the present invention and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention. The present invention is a comb to aid in the removal of braids. This design is specifically tailored to have fewer teeth than a standard comb equipped with a bulge in tooth of the comb to aid in separating the three bunches of hair that is used to form the braid. The comb comprises a spine 2, a plurality of teeth 3, and a plurality of beads 15.
The unbraid comb 1 has a spine 2 that aids the user in having a secure grip on the comb. The spine 2 of the comb has a natural curve to it which allows it to fit the natural contour on the hand it is being held in. The spine 2 is about a quarter inch thick.
The comb has a plurality of teeth 3 equally spaced across the spine 2 of the comb. Each of the plurality of teeth 3 comprise a shaft 11, an attached end 13, and an exposed end 12. The attached end 13 is fused to the spine 2 of the comb while the exposed end 12 is the end that is inserted into the braid. Positioned between the exposed end 12 and the attached end 13 is the shaft 11. A plurality of support walls 14 are spaced in-between each of the plurality of teeth 3. These support walls 14 are used to provide stability to the plurality of teeth 3 to prevent them from snaping off. The plurality of support walls 14 extend up just sightly from the spine 2 and have rounded corners.
The plurality of teeth 3 traverse the entire length of the spine 2 of the comb. The plurality of teeth 3 of the comb are tapered with the plurality of teeth 3 being wider at the attached end 13. The attached end 13 is fused to the spine 2 of the comb. The plurality of teeth 3 are narrower at the exposed end, however, the plurality of teeth 3 do not come to a fine point. Instead, the plurality of teeth 3 have a rounded end point which ensures that the plurality of teeth 3 of the comb do not poke and damage the scalp or cause pain. The unbraid comb works to safely unbraid the hair extension from the natural hair by using the plurality of teeth 3 and inserting the teeth between the “three strands” that are used to form the braid.
On each of the plurality of teeth 3 is one of the plurality of beads 15. One of the plurality of beads 15 sits on the shaft 11 of the one of the plurality of teeth 3 so that each tooth of the comb contains a single bead. The bead is stationary and does not move while in use nor can they be removed from the tooth of the comb.
In the preferred embodiment, the comb and the plurality of beads 15 are made out of soft semi-flexible plastic, however, it can be made out of any material that maintains the function of the comb. The plurality of beads 15 are to aid in separating the hair of the extension from the natural hair of the wearer of the extensions. The comb can come in a variety of sizes and lengths. Additionally, the comb can come with any number of teeth depending on the thickness and length of one's hair.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
