Description

FIELD

The present disclosure relates to decorative accessories.

BACKGROUND

Decorative pillows are a popular type of home décor. The pillow typically includes a pattern or graphic that conveys a look or style. The owner of the pillow, however, is limited to the pattern or graphic on the pillow. To change look, the owner is required to replace the decorative pillow with a new decorative pillow.

As can be seen, there is a need for decorative pillows that address the above drawbacks.

SUMMARY

In one aspect of the present disclosure, a decorative pillow system includes a base pillow including a first pillow side and a second pillow side opposite the first side. At least one of the first side and second side includes a first attachment surface. The decorative pillow system includes at least one appliqué including a first appliqué side and a second appliqué side. The second appliqué side includes a second attachment surface that is configured to removably attach to the first attachment surface.

In another aspect of the present disclosure, a decorative pillow includes a pillow sham including a first pillow side and a second pillow side opposite the first side. At least one of the first side and second side includes a first attachment surface. The first attachment surface is configured to removably attach to a second attachment surface of a decorative appliqué. The decorative pillow includes a pillow form configured to be removably inserted into the pillow sham.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a front perspective view of a configurable decorative pillow with interchangeable appliqués, according to aspects of the present disclosure;

FIG. 2 is a front elevation view of the configurable decorative pillow with examples of interchangeable appliqués, according to aspects of the present disclosure; and

FIG. 3 is a detailed perspective view of an example of an interchangeable appliqué, according to aspects of the present disclosure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DISCLOSURE

The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the disclosure. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the disclosure, since the scope of the disclosure is best defined by the appended claims.

As discussed above, current decorative pillows are inflexible and limited to the style of the pillow sham. For example, if a person desires a new decorative pillow for each holiday, the person is required to purchase and store a different pillow for each holiday. In this example, the different holiday pillows can consume a large amount of storage space, e.g., an entire closet. A person can switch out the sham/cover of a decorative pillow, but the sham needs to be the same measurement as the pillow form. Moreover, finding the correct size, unzipping, removing, and de-stuffing a pillow can be annoying and take significant effort and time. Additionally, the continual deconstruction of the decorative pillow could damage the pillow form, sham or zipper.

Broadly, an embodiment of the present disclosure provides a configurable decorative pillow that includes removable and interchangeable appliqués. The interchangeable appliques can be removed from and attached to the decorative pillow thereby changing the look and feel of the pillow. The configurable decorative pillow removes the need to buy and store multiple pillows or pillow shams for different styles and looks, e.g., different styles and looks for different holidays, celebrations, favorite sport teams, pets, and hobbies to name a few.

Referring now to FIGS. 1-3, FIG. 1 illustrates a configurable decorative pillow 10, hereinafter decorative pillow 10, according to aspects of the present disclosure. While FIGS. 1-3 illustrate examples of components of the decorative pillow system 10, additional components can be added and existing components can be removed and/or modified.

As illustrated in FIG. 1, the decorative pillow system 10 can include a base pillow 14 and one or more appliques 16 that may be removably attached to the base pillow 14. In embodiments, the decorative pillow system 10 can be used to provide accents to furniture or other items, for example, a couch 11. The base pillow 14 can include a pillow sham with a pillow form located within the pillow sham. In some embodiments, the pillow form can be removably positioned within the pillow sham.

The base pillow 14 includes two sides, a first pillow side 12 and a second pillow side (not illustrated) opposite the first side 12. As illustrated in FIG. 2, the first pillow side 12 and/or the second pillow side can include an attachment surface 18 for removably attaching the applique 16. In some embodiments, the attachment surface 18 covers the entire surface of the first pillow side 12. In some embodiments, the attachment surface can cover the entire surface of the first pillow side 12 and the second pillow side. As further illustrated in FIG. 3, the appliqué 16 includes a first appliqué side and a second appliqué side. The first appliqué side and/or the second applique side can include an attachment surface 20 for removably attaching the appliqué 16 to the base pillow 14.

The attachment surface 18 and the attachment surface 20 are formed from complementary materials or fasteners to allow the appliqué 16 to be removably attached to the base pillow 12. In embodiments, the attachment surface 18 can be loop fabric of a hook and loop fastener, and the attachment surface 20 can be hook fabric a hook and loop fastener, or vice versa. In some embodiments, the attachment surface 18 can be metallic surface, and the attachment surface 20 can be a magnet, or vice versa.

In one example, the base pillow 12 can be formed having square dimensions, e.g., 18″×18″. In this example, the base pillow 12 can be covered in fabric which will be sewn with fabric similar to the loop side of hook and loop, e.g., VELCRO, and stuffed with a polly fill. The appliqués 16 can be sewn of varying fabrics and designs and will be backed with a rough fabric similar to the hook side of hook and loop, e.g., VELCRO.

As illustrated, the decorative pillow system 10 can include and support multiple appliques 16 having different looks and styles. For example, as illustrated in FIG. 2, the decorative pillow system 10 can include appliqués 16 that represent different holidays, e.g., a pumpkin and cat for Halloween, a Christmas Tree for Christmas, etc. the Using the decorative pillow system 10, a user can purchase one decor base pillow and then purchase any number of appliques that attach to the base pillow to correspond with a desired look, e.g., holidays or celebrations, favorite sport teams, pets, and hobbies to name a few. The interchangeability removes the need to store several pillows corresponding to different styles. The user only needs to store the appliqués, for example, in a storage box. For example, a user can purchase a base pillow that is the correct size and color to match your space and color scheme so it is perfect for you. Then, the user can take out a storage box, e.g., 12″×12″×4″ box, that holds the holiday/celebratory/season themed appliqués. The user can remove the current applique on the base pillow and add the currently appropriate applique. Therefore, the user can update the look of the pillow in less than 30 seconds.

While the above describes a pillow, the above can be used with any type of decorative item. For example, the decorative item can be a table runner, an apron or any type of household decorative item.
