Insertable device and system for minimal access procedure

The present invention provides a system and single or multi-functional element device that can be inserted and temporarily placed or implanted into a structure having a lumen or hollow space, such as a subject's abdominal cavity to provide therewith access to the site of interest in connection with minimally invasive surgical procedures. The insertable device may be configured such that the functional elements have various degrees of freedom of movement with respect to orienting the functional elements or elements to provide access to the site from multiple and different orientations/perspectives as the procedure dictates, e.g., to provide multiple selectable views of the site, and may provide a stereoscopic view of the site of interest.

Compliant osteosynthesis fixation plate

A bendable polymer tissue fixation device suitable to be implanted into a living body, comprising a highly porous body, the porous body comprising a polymer, the porous body comprising a plurality of pores, the porous body being capable of being smoothly bent, wherein the bending collapses a portion of the pores to form a radius curve, the polymer fixation device being rigid enough to protect a tissue from shifting. In a preferred embodiment the polymer fixation device may be capable of being gradually resorbed by said living body. In one embodiment, the polymer fixation device comprises a plurality of layers distinguishable by various characteristics, such as structural or chemical properties. In another embodiment, the polymer fixation device may comprise additional materials; the additional materials serving to reinforce or otherwise alter the structure or physical characteristics of the device, or alternatively as a method of delivering therapy or other agents to the system of a living being.

Projectile firing device using liquified gas propellant

Rifle (1) comprises barrel (2) and loading means (15) for introducing a projectile from magazine (7) into breech (4). The projectile is propelled by a compressed gas propellant initially stored as a liquid in canister (10). The liquid is heated to a super critical state in chamber (8) by heating element (12) to induce a phase change such that the liquid becomes a highly dense gas. The phase change from liquid to gas provides the energy required to expel the projectile at high velocity from rifle (1), regardless of the ambient temperature. The propellant is preferably CO2 which is heated to 31.06° C. Rifle (1) produces minimal noise and no heat signature, making it suitable for military and stealth purposes. A pistol and launchers for grenades or mortar bombs are also disclosed. Another version can launch low earth orbit satellites or payloads.

DC power source unit with battery charging function

A DC power source unit supplies a DC voltage to a power tool through an adapter when a power switch of the tool is turned ON and also charges a battery pack used as an alternative power source of the tool when the power tool is not operated. In order to prevent a rush current from flowing in a switch interposed between a switching power source circuit and the battery pack when charging the battery pack is commenced, the switch is rendered OFF when the output voltage from the switching power source is greater than the battery voltage. Charging the battery is started upon once lowering the output of the switching power source to a level lower than the battery voltage.

System and method for a portable multimedia client

Mobile devices are described, along with related services, systems, and methods. These devices include displays with pixel dimensions and pixel densities in ranges that are chosen to allow users to enjoy a more intuitive and more “desktop-like” Web or multi-media experience compared to other devices, while still enabling the devices to be pocketsize. Also described are devices with touch sensitive areas on the edges or back that let users efficiently and intuitively control some behaviors of the devices by touching the touch sensitive areas in certain ways. Embodiments of the present invention reduces the need for mechanical controls, which enables keeping the frame around the device's display unusually narrow, thereby permitting larger displays without increasing the overall sizes of the devices.

Method and computer program product for monitoring an industrial network

Described are techniques used in monitoring the performance, security and health of a system used in an industrial application. Agents included in the industrial network report data to an appliance or server. The appliance stores the data and determines when an alarm condition has occurred. Notifications are sent upon detecting an alarm condition. The alarm thresholds may be user defined. A threat thermostat controller determines a threat level used to control the connectivity of a network used in the industrial application.

Hyperthermia treatment systems and methods

Systems and methods are disclosed to control the temperature of an RF hyperthermia system with minimum overshoot and to improve safety by, among other things, detecting a defective temperature sensor. Temperature overshoot may be minimized by compensating for the short-term temperature difference between the area being treated and the applicator delivering the RF energy. The RF energy may heat the tissue and then the tissue may transfer heat to the applicator sensor. The system may also adapt to various applicator sizes and shapes by modifying control loop coefficients based on initial probe response.

Nonvolatile memory unit with specific cache

The invention provides a method for organizing a writing operation to a nonvolatile memory. The method comprises setting a specific cache area, into which a specific data belonging to a specific group of logical blocks is to be written. It is determined whether or not the writing operation is a random write. If the writing operation is the random write, then the following steps are performed: determining whether or not the writing operation is to write a data that is belonging to the specific group of logical blocks; and writing the data into the specific cache area if the data is belonging to the specific group of logical blocks. As a result, a swap action between a data block and a writing block can be avoided during a random write operation. A storage structure in a nonvolatile memory device are organized to perform the forgoing writing operation.

Deriving contact information from emails

Correspondence, such as emails, is processed to develop a database of relationships between parties addressed on the correspondence including indirectly addressed parties such as those directly addressed in included, forwarded correspondence. The database may be used to determine the contact paths between users and addressed parties including the intermediary contacts required to complete contacts paths to selected addressed parties. Patterns of correspondence, including frequency and recency of correspondence may be detected and displayed. Statistically normal patterns of correspondence may be derived in order to determine if correspondence patterns for selected addressed parties deviate there from.

Voice menu system

A voice menu system is disclosed. The present invention generally allows for updateable audio menus. Although a device might have some pre-packaged menu components, other menu components can be received from a server. Each menu component, regardless of whether it is original or received from the server, has an associated voiced name. When a user highlights a menu choice, the voiced name can be played. The user then has the option of selecting the menu choice or scrolling to a new menu choice. In this way, a user could navigate the menu without having to actually see a visual display of the menu, which may be especially useful for users unable to see the visual display or users with visual disabilities.
