Closure plate lockout for a curved cutter stapler
A surgical instrument is adapted for applying a plurality of surgical fasteners to body tissue. The surgical instrument includes an anvil and a cartridge housing containing a plurality of surgical fasteners. The cartridge housing and anvil are relatively movable between a first spaced apart position and a second closed position. A firing mechanism is associated with the cartridge housing for ejecting the surgical fasteners from the cartridge housing to be driven against the anvil. A lockout mechanism interacts with the cartridge housing for activation and deactivation; the lockout mechanism preventing movement of the cartridge housing to its second closed position but permitting relative reapproximation movement of the cartridge housing and anvil, whereby reapproximation provides an indicator that the instrument is not malfunctioning.

A surgical instrument adapted for applying a plurality of surgical fasteners to body tissue includes a cartridge module having a cartridge housing containing a plurality of surgical fasteners and a knife. The cartridge module includes a driver disposed to push surgical fasteners out of the cartridge housing. The instrument also includes a firing mechanism associated with the cartridge housing for ejecting the surgical fasteners and the knife from the cartridge housing. The knife includes a detent disposed to contact a mating detent of the cartridge module during longitudinal travel of the knife thereby preventing undesired forward and rearward motion of the knife. The driver includes a detent disposed to contact at least one mating detent formed on the cartridge module.

Retaining pin lever advancement mechanism for a curved cutter stapler
A surgical instrument is adapted for applying a plurality of surgical fasteners to body tissue. The surgical instrument includes a frame having a proximal end and a distal end, with a handle positioned at the proximal end and an end effector positioned at the distal end. The end effector is shaped and dimensioned for supporting a cartridge housing and an anvil, the cartridge housing and anvil being relatively movable by actuation of a closure mechanism. The surgical instrument further includes a firing mechanism associated with the end effector and the cartridge housing for selective actuation of the surgical fasteners features. The surgical instrument also includes a retaining pin for enclosing tissue between the anvil and the cartridge housing. The retaining pin is moved by actuation of the closure mechanism from an open first position to a closed second position. A manual actuator is associated with the retaining pin for moving from the second position back to the first position and alternatively moving the retaining pin from the first position to the second position.

Curved cutter stapler shaped for male pelvis
A surgical instrument is adapted for applying a plurality of surgical fasteners to body tissue. The surgical instrument includes a frame having a proximal end and a distal end, with a handle positioned at the proximal end and an end effector positioned at the distal end. The end effector is shaped and dimensioned for supporting a cartridge module. A firing mechanism is associated with the end effector and the cartridge module for selective actuation. The end effector has a radius of curvature optimized for a male pelvis such that the end effector has a curvature of at most about 7.8 inch diameter.

Instrument introducer
Instrument introducers are disclosed which facilitate the insertion of a surgical instrument into a cavity or a body of a patient. In one embodiment, the instrument introducer includes a hollow elongate cylindrical body including a distal end portion terminating in a distal edge and a proximal end portion, the cylindrical body defining a central longitudinal axis, and an elastomeric cap secured to the distal end portion of the cylindrical body, the cap including a distal end wall having an outer terminal edge and an annular side wall depending from the outer terminal edge thereof. The distal end wall includes an aperture formed therein, wherein a center of the aperture is coaxially aligned with the central longitudinal axis.

Ultrasonic dissector
An ultrasonic surgical instrument for dissection and coaguation of tissue is provided. The surgical instrument includes a vibration coupler supported within a housing and operably connected to an ultrasonic generator. An angled blade member is connected to the distal end of the vibration coupler to conduct high frequency vibration from the ultrasonic generator to the blade member. A clamp member is positioned adjacent to the blade member and is movable from a first position to a second approximated position. The clamp member and angled blade member combine to enhance contact between the tissue and the blade member during operation of the instrument to improve the performance of the instrument.

Knife retraction arm for a curved cutter stapler
A surgical instrument for cutting and applying a plurality of surgical fasteners in the same direction to body tissue includes a frame having a proximal end and a distal end, with a handle positioned at the proximal end and an end effector positioned at the distal end. The end effector is shaped and dimensioned for supporting a cartridge housing and an anvil. The cartridge housing and anvil are relatively movable between a first spaced apart position and a second position in close approximation with one another, and the cartridge housing includes a knife structure adapted for cutting tissue by moving between the cartridge housing and the anvil. The instrument also includes a firing mechanism associated with the end effector and the cartridge housing for selective actuation of the knife structure and surgical fasteners for movement in the same direction. The knife structure includes a rearwardly facing coupling member shaped and dimensioned for engaging a distal end of the firing mechanism as the cartridge housing is loaded into the end effector of the surgical instrument.

Cartridge retainer for a curved cutter stapler
A surgical instrument is adapted for stapling tissue in a highly controlled manner. The surgical instrument includes a frame having a proximal end and a distal end, with a handle positioned at the proximal end and an end effector positioned at the distal end. The end effector is shaped and dimensioned for selectively receiving a cartridge module containing a plurality of surgical fasteners. A firing mechanism is associated with the end effector and the cartridge module for selective actuation of the surgical fasteners. The cartridge module includes a cartridge housing in which the surgical fasteners are housed and an anvil shaped and dimensioned for engagement with the surgical fasteners to facilitate stapling. The cartridge housing and anvil are relatively movable between a first spaced apart position and a second position in close approximation with one another. A retainer is removeably positioned between the anvil and the cartridge housing to prevent undesired movement of the cartridge housing toward the anvil.

Method, system, and program for managing data transfer and construction
Provided are a method, system, and program for constructing data including reconstructing data organized in a data organization type, such as a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) organization, for example, which permits data reconstruction In one embodiment, blocks of data are transferred from a stripe of data stored across storage units, such as disk drives in a RAID array, to a logic engine of a storage processor, bypassing the cache memory of the storage processor. A store queue performs a logic function, such as Exclusive-OR, on each block of data as it is transferred from the disk drives, to reconstruct a block of data from the stripe. The constructed block of data may be subsequently transferred to a disk drive of the RAID array to replace a lost block of data in the stripe of data across the RAID array or to replace an old block of parity data.
