Single fold device for tissue fixation
A system for tissue approximation and fixation is described herein. A device is advanced in a minimally invasive manner within a patient's body to create one or several divisions or plications within a hollow body organ. The system comprises a stapler assembly having a tissue acquisition member and a tissue fixation member. The stapler assembly approximates tissue from within the hollow body organ with the acquisition member and then affixes the approximated tissue with the fixation member. In one method, the system can be used as a secondary procedure to reduce the size of a stoma within the hollow body organ.

Device and method for determining tissue thickness and creating cardiac ablation lesions
A tissue ablation device has a handle and an ablation head coupled to the handle. The ablation head has a first jaw, a second jaw, and an ablative element coupled to at least one of the first and second jaws. A thickness measurement device may be coupled to the ablation device to indicate the distance separating the first and second jaws. Further, a force measurement device may be coupled to the ablation device to measure the force being applied by the first and second jaws to a piece of tissue. Further, a strain measurement device may be coupled to the ablation device to indicate the strain resulting in a piece of tissue disposed between the first and second jaws when a stress is applied to the tissue.

Steerable vascular sheath
A vascular steerable access device is provided having an elongate body and a steerable portion. The access sheath has an outside diameter sufficiently small so that it may be inserted into a vessel and a sufficient length to extend through a patient's circulatory system. The access sheath may have two internal lumen, a first lumen sized and configured as an access to a surgical site and a second lumen sized and configured to contain a tensioning device that, when acted upon, will deflect the steerable portion. The tensioning device may be directly or remotely attached to an actuation device that operates to control the tensioning and loosening of the tensioning device.

Catheter-based fastener implantation apparatus and methods with implantation force resolution
Apparatus and methods implant a fastener in a targeted body region, e.g., a hollow body cavity or an intraluminal space. The apparatus and methods deploy in the targeted body region a fastener attachment assembly that carries an actuated member. The actuated member is selectively operable to generate an implantation force to implant a fastener into tissue within the targeted body region. The fastener can be implanted, e.g., to secure a prosthesis, e.g., an endovascular graft. The systems and apparatus apply a resolution force at or near the actuated member, thereby making possible a stable and dependable catheter-based fastening platform.

Surgical stapling device
A surgical stapler comprises an elongate housing 10 and a surgical staple 14 slidable longitudinally within the housing towards the free forward end thereof. The back 18 of the staple has a rearward extension 22. An actuator 16 is slidable forwardly within the housing for driving the staple towards the free end of the housing. An upstanding flange 30 on the extension 22 engages a stop 32 within the housing to restrain the back of the staple against forward movement of the actuator bends the staple to bring the free ends of the legs towards one another to close the staple. Further movement of the actuator then ruptures the join between the extension and the back of the staple to release the closed staple.

Method of controlling the film properties of PECVD-deposited thin films
We have discovered methods of controlling a combination of PECVD deposition process parameters during deposition of thin films which provides improved control over surface standing wave effects which affect deposited film thickness uniformity and physical property uniformity. By minimizing surface standing wave effects, the uniformity of film properties across a substrate surface onto which the films have been deposited is improved. In addition, we have developed a gas diffusion plate design which assists in the control of plasma density to be symmetrical or asymmetrical over a substrate surface during film deposition, which also provides improved control over uniformity of deposited film thickness.

Plasma uniformity control by gas diffuser hole design
Embodiments of a gas diffuser plate for distributing gas in a processing chamber are provided. The gas distribution plate includes a diffuser plate having an upstream side and a downstream side, and a plurality of gas passages passing between the upstream and downstream sides of the diffuser plate. The gas passages include hollow cathode cavities at the downstream side to enhance plasma ionization. The depths, the diameters, the surface area and density of hollow cathode cavities of the gas passages that extend to the downstream end can be gradually increased from the center to the edge of the diffuser plate to improve the film thickness and property uniformity across the substrate. The increasing diameters, depths and surface areas from the center to the edge of the diffuser plate can be created by bending the diffuser plate toward downstream side, followed by machining out the convex downstream side. Bending the diffuser plate can be accomplished by a thermal process or a vacuum process. The increasing diameters, depths and surface areas from the center to the edge of the diffuser plate can also be created computer numerically controlled machining. Diffuser plates with gradually increasing diameters, depths and surface areas of the hollow cathode cavities from the center to the edge of the diffuser plate have been shown to produce improved uniformities of film thickness and film properties.

Dimmable LED-based MR16 lighting apparatus and methods
Methods and apparatus for providing controllable power via an A.C. power source to LED-based lighting devices having an MR16 configuration. In one example, LED-based MR16 lighting devices may be coupled to A.C. power circuits that are controlled by conventional dimmers (i.e, “A.C. dimmer circuits”). In yet other aspects, one or more parameters relating to the light generated by LED-based light sources (e.g., intensity, color, color temperature, temporal characteristics, etc.) may be conveniently controlled via operation of a conventional A.C. dimmer and/or other signals present on the A.C. power circuit.
