Medical device

A medical device includes a medical instrument with a transponder detachably fixed to the medical device. The transponder serves as a data medium about specific information of the medical instrument. The medical device further includes a data exchange mechanism for exchanging data with the transponder. When a medical treatment is to be performed, the medical instrument is placed to a receiving mechanism for receiving the medical instrument separated from the transponder, while the transponder is placed to the data exchange mechanism which is placed locally apart or locally placed different from the receiving mechanism so that disadvantageous influences of the medical treatment do not affect the transponder.

Endoscope

An endoscope includes a slender insertion section of which the distal portion incorporates an image capturing device, and the back end of this insertion section is provided with an operating section to be gripped. A cable section is provided wherein a light guide cable for transmitting illumination light, and a signal cable connected to the image capturing device are integrally or separately extended from the operating section, and the connector of the edge portion of the cable section is freely detachably mounted to each of a light source device and a signal processing device. A mounting/detaching portion for freely detachably connecting a first unit serving as an insertion section side and a second unit serving as a cable section side is provided around between the distal end of the operating section and the proximal end thereof.

Tufted fibrous web

A fibrous web having a first surface and a second surface. The fibrous web has a first region and at least one discrete second region, the second region being a discontinuity on the second surface and being a tuft comprising a plurality of tufted fibers extending from the first surface. The tufted fibers define a distal portion, the distal portion comprising portions of the tufted fibers being bonded together. Bonding can be thermal melt-bonding. In another embodiment the second surface of the web can have non-intersecting or substantially continuous bonded regions, which also can be thermal melt-bonding.

Methods for rapid deployment of prosthetic heart valves

A two-stage or component-based valve prosthesis that can be quickly and easily implanted during a surgical procedure is provided. The prosthetic valve comprises a support structure that is deployed at a treatment site. The prosthetic valve further comprises a valve member configured to be quickly connected to the support structure. The support structure may take the form of a stent that is expanded at the site of a native valve. If desired, the native leaflets may remain and the stent may be used to hold the native valve open. In this case, the stent may be balloon expandable and configured to resist the powerful recoil force of the native leaflets. The support structure is provided with a coupling means for attachment to the valve member, thereby fixing the position of the valve member in the body. The valve member may be a non-expandable type, or may be expandable from a compressed state to an expanded state. The system is particularly suited for rapid deployment of heart valves in a conventional open-heart surgical environment.

Self-referenced tracking

A new tracking technique is essentially “sourceless” in that it can be used anywhere with no set-up, yet it enables a much wider range of virtual environment-style navigation and interaction techniques than does a simple head-orientation tracker. A sourceless head orientation tracker is combined with a head-worn tracking device that tracks a hand-mounted 3D beacon relative to the head. The system encourages use of intuitive interaction techniques which exploit proprioception.
