Powered surgical instrument
A surgical instrument including a handle assembly, a first endoscopic portion, a motor, and a first end effector is disclosed. The first endoscopic portion is selectively connectable to a distal portion of the handle assembly and defines a longitudinal axis. The first endoscopic portion includes a housing adjacent its proximal portion and includes an actuation member. The motor is disposed in mechanical cooperation with the housing of the first endoscopic portion and is operatively connected to the actuation member for moving the actuation member substantially along the longitudinal axis. The first end effector is selectively connectable to a distal portion of the first endoscopic portion and is configured to perform a first stapling function.

Manipulator for medical use
A medical manipulator comprises a distal end working unit including a gripper as an end effector, an operating unit for operating the distal end working unit, a coupling interconnecting the distal end working unit and the operating unit, and an attitude changing mechanism for changing an attitude of the distal end working unit. When the operating unit is operated by an operator, the end effector is mechanically operated by a transmitting member. The attitude changing mechanism is operated by a bending drive source and a rotational drive source, which are operated when the operating unit is operated by the operator.

Hemostatic surgical blade, system and method of blade manufacture
A hemostatic surgical blade is described which is formed of five symmetrically disposed layers. A martensitic stainless steel core is provided with oppositely disposed faces which are bonded to hard pure copper thermal transfer layers which, in turn, are supported by buttressing layers of austenitic stainless steel. The blade is heated by a blade heater circuit which is provided as a flexible circuit carrying one or more resistor heaters and associated leads supported by a polyimide substrate. A thermally conductive and electrically insulative adhesive is used to bond the flexible circuit to a blade blank. The system employs a multi-lead cable which is removable from an instrument handle. One blade embodiment involves an elongate stem for accessing body cavities and another embodiment incorporates a controller function within an instrument handle.

Antigen-adjuvant compositions and methods
Vitreous compositions of an antigen and adjuvant, and methods for making the compositions are disclosed. Also disclosed are pharmaceutically acceptable formulations of the vitreous compositions, reconstituted liquid formulations of the vitreous compositions, vaccine compositions, and kits containing the vitreous compositions. Also disclosed are devices for administering the vitreous compositions to mammals and methods for eliciting an immune response in mammals by administering the compositions.

Light-emitting organometallic complexes
Novel organometallic compounds are provided, which include a 2-phenylpyridine iridium (Irppy) complex having alkyl and/or aryl substituted ligands and a heteroleptic or a homoleptic nature. These materials may be advantageously used in OLEDs to tune evaporation temperature and solubility, narrow emission, and increase device efficiency.

RELOADABLE LAPAROSCOPIC FASTENER DEPLOYING DEVICE FOR USE IN A GASTRIC VOLUME REDUCTION PROCEDURE
A reloadable device for deploying fasteners including a handle and at least one actuator. The handle is connected to an elongated hollow housing having distal and proximal ends. The device also includes a first cartridge containing at least one fastener releasably connectable to the distal end of hollow housing. The fastener has at least two anchors connected together by a non-resilient flexible suture which does not resist deformation under compressible loads. The device also includes a means for facilitating removal the first cartridge and replacing it with a second cartridge.

MANIPULATOR SYSTEM AND MANIPULATOR CONTROL METHOD
A manipulator has an operating unit including a trigger lever, a distal end working unit including an end effector and a yaw axis and a roll axis for changing the direction of the end effector, and a connector shaft interconnecting the operating unit and the distal end working unit. The operating unit includes an actuator block housing therein motors for actuating the yaw axis and the roll axis and a gripper operational quantity corrector for mechanically transmitting an operational action of the trigger lever to actuate the end effector. A controller calculates an interference amount caused on the end effector by the attitude angles of the yaw axis and the roll axis. The gripper operational quantity corrector is controlled by the controller to extend or retract a push rod, for correcting the operational quantity of the operational action of the trigger lever to compensate for the interference amount.

Pulse oximeter probe-off detector
A processor provides signal quality based limits to a signal strength operating region of a pulse oximeter. These limits are superimposed on the typical gain dependent signal strength limits. If a sensor signal appears physiologically generated, the pulse oximeter is allowed to operate with minimal signal strength, maximizing low perfusion performance. If a sensor signal is potentially due to a signal induced by a dislodged sensor, signal strength requirements are raised. Thus, signal quality limitations enhance probe off detection without significantly impacting low perfusion performance. One signal quality measure used is pulse rate density, which defines the percentage of time physiologically acceptable pulses are occurring. If the detected signal contains a significant percentage of unacceptable pulses, the minimum required signal strength is raised proportionately. Another signal quality measure used in conjunction with pulse rate density is energy ratio, computed as the percentage of total energy contained in the pulse rate fundamental and associated harmonics.

Devices and methods for content sharing
Described are methods and devices for automatically coupling two or more mobile communication devices (502, 541) to share content such as calls, music, documents, video and games where two or more devices automatically determine the feasibility of sharing the content and negotiate to find an efficient manner in which to do so. In this way, the pairing between devices may be transparent to the users. Moreover, a better choice in a transport may be selected without user input. Each device may include a near field communication (NFC) device that when in range of the other device may automatically initiate pairing between the devices so that the devices may share content. The users of NFC enabled devices may have little or minimal interactions except that one or more users may bring the devices within range so that the NFCs may initiate the pairing between the devices.

Wireless energy transfer
Method for wireless energy transfer is disclosed. According to an embodiment, the method includes transferring electrical energy from one electronic device to another electronic device with the help of electromagnetic waves. An electronic device that requires electrical energy can get energy transferred from one or more other electronic devices present in its vicinity. The electrical energy being transferred can be used to charge the battery of the electronic device.
