Method and apparatus for a multiple transition temperature implant

A shape-memory device manufactured from shape memory material includes multiple activation temperatures. The multiple activation temperatures arise from either the heat treatment of the device during manufacturing, or by combining different elements with different activation temperatures. To manufacture a shape-memory device with multiple activation temperatures, it is formed into a first shape. A first portion of the shape-memory device is heated to a first temperature, and a second portion of the shape-memory device is heated to a second temperature. The shape-memory device is then worked into a second shape. Accordingly, the first portion has a first transition temperature, and the second portion has a second transition temperature. In use, the shape-memory device is placed into a desired position. Energy is applied such that the first portion, second portion, or both portions are transformed.

Method of mixing bone cement with a power tool including monitoring the mixing of the cement based on data regarding characteristics of components forming the cement and the current drawn by the power tool

A system and method for mixing bone cement. The components forming the cement are contained in a cartridge. A motorized device, such as a surgical handpiece, rotates a blade in the cartridge that mixes the cement. The current drawn by the motor is monitored. The current draw is evaluated to determine the viscosity of the cement. If the current draw indicates that the cement is at the target viscosity, the mixing may be terminated. A low current draw measure may be interpreted as an indication that the cement is of low viscosity and that it may be necessary to continue the mixing process.

Calibration techniques for a continuous analyte sensor

Disclosed herein are systems and methods for calibrating a continuous analyte sensor, such as a continuous glucose sensor. One such system utilizes one or more electrodes to measure an additional analyte. Such measurements may provide a baseline or sensitivity measurement for use in calibrating the sensor. Furthermore, baseline and/or sensitivity measurements may be used to trigger events such as digital filtering of data or suspending display of data.

Multi-fold mobile device with configurable interface

A multi-fold mobile device with a configurable interface is disclosed. In a particular embodiment, a method includes detecting a hardware configuration change from a first configuration to a second configuration at an electronic device that includes at least a first panel having a first display surface and a second panel having a second display surface. The hardware configuration change includes a change in a relative orientation of the first display panel to the second display panel. The method also includes automatically modifying a graphical user interface displayed at the first display surface and the second display surface at least partially based on the second configuration.

System for enforcing security policies on mobile communications devices

A system for enforcing security policies on mobile communications devices is adapted to be used in a mobile communications network in operative association with a subscriber identity module. The system having a client-server architecture includes a server operated by a mobile communications network operator and a client resident on a mobile communications device on which security policies are to be enforced. The server is adapted to determine security policies to be applied on said mobile communications device, and to send thereto a security policy to be applied. The client is adapted to receive the security policy to be applied from the server, and to apply the received security policy. The server includes a server authentication function adapted to authenticate the security policy to be sent to the mobile communications device; the client is further adapted to assess authenticity of the security policy received from the server by exploiting a client authentication function resident on the subscriber identity module.

Substrate Processing Apparatus

Process gas discharged from a bypass pipe to a gas exhaust system can be prevented from diffusing back to the inside of a process chamber without having to install a dedicated vacuum pump at the downstream side of the bypass pipe. The substrate processing apparatus includes a process chamber accommodating a substrate, a gas supply system supplying process gas from a process gas source to the process chamber for processing the substrate, a gas exhaust system configured to exhaust the process chamber, two or more vacuum pumps installed in series at the gas exhaust system, and a bypass pipe connected between the gas supply system and the gas exhaust system. The most upstream one of the vacuum pumps is a mechanical booster pump, and the bypass pipe is connected between the mechanical booster pump and the rest vacuum pumps located at a downstream side of the mechanical booster pump.

Visual identification information used as confirmation in a wireless communication

Techniques for facilitating the exchange of information and transactions between two entities associated with two wireless devices when the devices are in close proximity to each other. A first device uses a first short range wireless capability to detect an identifier transmitted from a second device in proximity, ideally using existing radio capabilities such as Bluetooth (IEEE802.15.1-2002) or Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11). The detected identifier, being associated with the device, is also associated with an entity. Rather than directly exchanging application data flow between the two devices using the short range wireless capability, a second wireless capability allows for one or more of the devices to communicate with a central server via the internet, and perform the exchange of application data flow. By using a central server to draw on stored information and content associated with the entities the server can broker the exchange of information between the entities and the devices.

Reverse Tagging of Images in System for Managing and Sharing Digital Images

An online application and service operates over existing photo hosting services to allow users to share digital photos hosted by multiple online photo hosting services, including ability to automatically discover relevant photos, to create a photo “album” that includes photos hosted by multiple different online services; to automatically discover relevant content and add it to an album; to chat and/or send instant messages in relation to shared photos; and automatic notifications of events of interest to users. The service includes a server based application and an associated client-side application with a graphical user interface. The technology further includes a method of “reverse tagging”, i.e., automatically adding semantic tags to an online album and any photos included in it, by automatically performing an online search of an information resource in response to a user creating a name for the album, and applying results of the search as tags to the album.
