Methods for cryptographic identification of interchangeable parts for surgical instruments

A method for encrypted authentication of interchangeable parts of a surgical instrument includes providing a surgical end effector at a distal end of a handle of the surgical instrument and electrically connecting an authentication controller within the handle to a receiving portion of the end effector. An interchangeable part is removably placed at the receiving portion. The interchangeable part is authenticated with the authentication controller when the interchangeable part is seated in the end effector.

Driverless surgical stapler

An exemplary driverless surgical stapler may include a staple holder; staples positioned within that staple holder; and at least one wedge, where each wedge is slidable to directly contact at least one staple, where that contact causes deployment of each contacted staple. An exemplary surgical method may include providing a driverless surgical stapler that has a staple holder, staples positioned within the staple holder, and at least one wedge; and sliding at least one wedge relative to the staples to directly contact at least one staple.

Hemostasis valve

A tearaway sheath assembly (100) having a splittable sheath tube (102) a splittable hub (110), a splittable valve (150) and a split cap (180). The valve (150) is of the elongated duckbill type and having a slit (158) almost completely across the distal end wall (154) such that two diverging sides (156) of the distal valve portion may be moved apart during insertion therethrough of a dilator or a catheter. A two-part cap (180) is affixed to the hub proximal end (120) and traps a seating flange (168) of the valve between itself and a seating groove (136) of the hub. Pairs of opposed gaps (184,122) of the cap (180) and the hub (110) are aligned with frangible sections or seams (108) of the sheath tube (102) and frangible sections (172) and slits (166) of the valve, facilitating splitting of the assembly (100) when desired by the practitioner to peel it away from the inserted catheter.

USING HOST SYMPTOMS, HOST ROLES, AND/OR HOST REPUTATION FOR DETECTION OF HOST INFECTION

Detecting and mitigating threats to a computer network is important to the health of the network. Currently firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and intrusion prevention systems are used to detect and mitigate attacks. As the attackers get smarter and attack sophistication increases, it becomes difficult to detect attacks in real-time at the perimeter. Failure of perimeter defenses leaves networks with infected hosts. At least two of symptoms, roles, and reputations of hosts in (and even outside) a network are used to identify infected hosts. Virus or malware signatures are not required.

Magnetic connector

A magnetic connector has a receptacle and a plug. The receptacle has an electromagnet comprising an inner core, an outer core, a coil disposed around the inner core and an air gap defined by the edges of the inner and outer cores. The plug has a plug core and an anchor defined by the plug core edge. The anchor is configured to insert into the air gap as a receptacle socket electrically connects with plug pins. The coil is energized and de-energized so as to assist in the insertion or removal of the anchor from within the air gap and the corresponding connection and disconnection of the socket and pins.

Image processing system

A recognition object detecting portion detects a recognition object existing in each of images which are captured in series at different time points by a camera. Images of the detected recognition object are stored in a memory. A recognition object condition judging portion determines whether image areas of the recognition object are recognizable. A movement amount detecting portion detects a movement amount of the recognition object by using the image areas of the recognition object stored in the memory. A sub-area detecting portion detects a sub-area to be recognized, by using the image areas of the recognition object read out from the memory, in accordance with the movement amount of the recognition object. A recognition portion performs recognition processing on the sub-areas. A recognition result integration portion integrates recognition results of the sub-areas including recognized characters and/or recognized patterns and the corresponding reliabilities, respectively.

Method for dynamically generating a configuration for a virtual machine with a virtual hard disk in an external storage device

A sequence of programs enable execution of a guest operating system (OS) (116) installed on virtual hard disks (VHDs), one storing system, one storing user data (210, 212). The VHDs are stored on a storage device as for example a USB flash drive (216). The storage device is connected to a host system (110). Virtual machine monitor (VMM) (118) type, available RAM and an access path to an internal storage device (220) are detected. The guest OS (116) configuration is modified to support hardware emulated by the detected VMM. A virtual machine (VM) configuration for this VMM is created allocating a portion of the detected RAM for the VM (112). Both VHDs are attached as copy-on-write VHDs, and VM write operations to VHDs (210, 212) are redirected to overlay files (228, 230) on the host's internal storage device. After shutdown overlay files can be merged with corresponding VHD base files.

SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS WITH IMPROVED DEXTERITY FOR USE IN MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGICAL PROCEDURES

A surgical instrument adapted and configured for use in minimally invasive surgical procedures includes a shaft, an end effector and a proximal handle. The longitudinal shaft has proximal and distal end portions, and defines a longitudinal axis of the surgical instrument. The distal end effector is connected to the distal end portion of the shaft, and is adapted and configured for performing a surgical task. The proximal handle portion is operably connected to the proximal end portion of the longitudinal shaft and has an actuatable portion operably connected to the end effector to result in movement of the end effector. The distal end portion of the shaft can be laterally offset from the longitudinal axis of the shaft and/or have one or more bends or curves formed therein. The proximal portion of the shaft can include at least one bend to allow for comfortable positioning of a surgeon's hands.

Shower head and plasma processing apparatus having same

A shower head is provided, in a processing chamber in which a substrate is processed, to face a mounting table for mounting the substrate thereon. The shower head includes: a facing surface that faces the mounting table to supply a gas to the substrate in a form of shower through a plurality of gas injection holes formed on the facing surface; an opposing surface provided opposite to the facing surface; and a plurality of bar-shaped heat transfer columns standing on the opposing surface. Here, the heat transfer columns have varying lengths and/or thicknesses to adjust heat capacities thereof. The heat transfer columns are made of one of aluminum, stainless steel, and copper.
