Tissue capture and occlusion systems and methods
Systems and methods capture and/or occlusion of selected body tissue using various tissue characteristics and/or techniques are described. In the context of left atrial appendage closure, the systems and methods can be used to capture the left atrial appendage while a closure instrument (suture, clip, ring, etc.) is placed over the appendage and tightened down or a closure method (ablation, cryogenic procedures, stapling, etc.) is performed to close the left atrial appendage.

Shaped electrode bipolar resection apparatus, system and methods of use
An electrosurgical instrument is provided and includes a housing configured to connect to a source of bipolar electrosurgical energy and an electrode body coupled to the elongated housing. The electrode body includes an electrode face, first and second bipolar electrodes and a blade. The electrode face is formed on the distal end of the electrode body and includes a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis therethrough. The first and second electrodes have a leading edge and a trailing edge, are formed on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis and connect to opposed electrical potentials. The blade is positioned between the electrodes with at least a portion of the blade extending beyond the electrode face.

Surgical stapling instrument and a staple cartridge and staple for such an instrument
A surgical stapling instrument comprises a cartridge device with a row of staples and a wavy first tissue interface, and an anvil having a wavy second tissue interface which cooperates with the first tissue interface for clamping tissue therebetween and forming the staples exiting from the cartridge device, a staple driving device adapted to drive the staples out of the cartridge device towards the anvil, wherein the staples are non-symmetrical U-shaped with two legs protruding toward the anvil and a transverse basis connecting the legs, wherein the basis is inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction of the legs and has a length greater than the staple projection on a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the legs.

METHODS OF FORMING A LAPAROSCOPIC GREATER CURVATURE PLICATION USING A SURGICAL STAPLER
A method of plicating a stomach by accessing the exterior of a stomach of a patient and grasping tissue on a first and second location on a first side of the greater curvature of the stomach. Also forming a plication therebetween with a first staple. The method involves grasping tissue on a third and fourth location on a second side of the greater curvature of the stomach and forming a plication with a second staple. The first and second plications are near a location selected from the group consisting of a gastroesophageal junction, a pylorus, and an incisura angularis. The method further includes grasping tissue on a first and second side of a greater curvature of the stomach and forming a fold along a length of the greater curvature by attaching the first and second sides together along a first attachment line with a first plurality of staples.

Patient monitoring system
A patient monitoring system includes an inflatable cuff, a gas reservoir containing a compressed gas, and a sensor. When the inflatable cuff is coupled to a wearer, the gas reservoir supplies gas to the inflatable cuff to inflate the inflatable cuff via gas pathways. As the inflatable cuff inflates, a patient monitor can receive blood pressure data from the sensor and use the blood pressure data to determine the blood pressure of the wearer. The patient monitor can also receive blood pressure data during deflation of the inflatable cuff to determine the blood pressure of the wearer.

Variable indication estimator
A variable indication estimator which determines an output value representative of a set of input data. For example, the estimator can reduce input data to estimates of a desired signal, select a time, and determine an output value from the estimates and the time. In one embodiment, the time is selected using one or more adjustable signal confidence parameters determine where along the estimates the output value will be computed. By varying the parameters, the characteristics of the output value are variable. For example, when input signal confidence is low, the parameters are adjusted so that the output value is a smoothed representation of the input signal. When input signal confidence is high, the parameters are adjusted so that the output value has a faster and more accurate response to the input signal.

Surgical manipulation instrument
A surgical manipulation instrument which is particularly suitable for minimal invasive surgery, comprising an extra-corporeal drive device and a partial intra-corporeal manipulator part. The drive device comprises several axially displaceable first actuation elements. The first actuation elements are detachably connected to axially displaceable second actuation elements, by a coupling device, the second actuation elements being used to actuate an end effector. The coupling device comprises two coupling elements, one of the coupling elements having undercut recesses in which the second coupling element engages.
