Automated end effector component reloading system for use with a robotic system
A surgical instrument. The surgical instrument includes an end effector that comprises a staple channel and an anvil that is movably translatable relative to the staple channel. A tool mounting portion is configured to interface with a robotic system and operably communicate with the end effector. The instrument further includes a first sensor that has an output that represents a first condition of a portion of the robotic system. A second sensor has an output that represents a position of the anvil. A third sensor has an output that represents a position of a reciprocating knife within the end effector. An externally accessible memory device communicates with the first, second and third sensors.

Articulatable surgical device
Methods and devices are provided for controlling movement of a working end of a surgical device. In one embodiment, methods and devices are provided for moving an end effector on a distal end of a surgical fastening device. Movement can include rotational movement of the end effector about an axis of the shaft, articulation of the end effector relative to the shaft, and actuation of an end effector, e.g., closing, firing, and/or cutting. In other embodiments, a single cable actuator is provided and is movable between a first position, in which it is effective to rotate an end effector without actuating (i.e., closing and firing) the end effector, and a second position, in which it is effective to actuate the end effector without rotating the end effector. In other aspects, methods and devices are provided for moving a flexible neck formed on a distal end of an accessory channel for use with an endoscope. Movement of the flexible neck can be used to control positioning of a tool extending through the flexible neck.

Surgical Instrument with Flexible Shaft
A surgical instrument includes an elongate body, an elongate shaft, a collar, and an end effector. In particular, the elongate body defines a longitudinal axis, a lumen therethrough and an aperture in communication with the lumen. The elongate shaft is disposed at least partially within the lumen of the elongate body. The collar is mounted at least partially on the elongate shaft. The effector is detachably coupled with the elongate shaft. The elongate shaft is transitionable between a first position in which the elongate shaft is aligned with the longitudinal axis and a second position in which a portion of the elongate shaft having the collar mounted thereon transversely bends and protrudes through an aperture, thereby causing the end effector to move along the longitudinal axis with respect to the elongate body.

In-situ doping of arsenic for source and drain epitaxy
A method includes forming a gate stack over a semiconductor region, and recessing the semiconductor region to form a recess adjacent the gate stack. A silicon-containing semiconductor region is epitaxially grown in the recess to form a source/drain stressor. Arsenic is in-situ doped during the step of epitaxially growing the silicon-containing semiconductor region.

Force estimation for a minimally invasive robotic surgery system
A method of force estimation for a minimally invasive medical system including a robot manipulator having an effector unit equipped with a 6-degrees-of-freedom force/torque sensor and being configured to hold a minimally invasive instrument having a first end mounted to the effector unit and a second end located beyond an external fulcrum that limits the instrument in motion, where the method includes determining a position of the instrument relative to the fulcrum, measuring by means of the 6 degrees of freedom force/torque sensor a force and a torque exerted onto the effector unit by the first end of the instrument, and calculating by means of the principle of superposition an estimate of a force exerted onto the second end of the instrument based on the determined position, the measured force and the measured torque.

Surgical Stapling Apparatus Having a Wound Closure Material Applicator Assembly
A surgical stapling apparatus includes a staple anvil and a staple cartridge having a working surface, one or more rows of individual staple slots formed in the working surface, a knife track formed along a length of the working surface, and a plurality of surgical staples individually disposed within the individual staple slots. The apparatus further includes an actuation sled having a knife and being configured and adapted to movably position the knife axially within the knife track. The apparatus also includes a wound closure material applicator assembly having a needle secured to the knife to dispense a quantity of wound closure material along a length of the knife track as the actuation sled and knife are moved therealong.

Medical manipulator
A medical manipulator includes a trigger lever operated by hands, a shaft that extends from a body in which the trigger lever is provided, and a tip operating unit that is provided at a tip of the shaft. The tip operating unit includes an end effector to which the operation of the trigger lever is mechanically transmitted and in which the operation is performed, and a detection mechanism that detects an operation state of the first input unit.

Flexible display devices
Electronic devices may be provided that contain multiple housing portions. The housing portions may be coupled together using hinges. The hinges may include hinges based on a three-bar linkage, hinges based on a four-bar linkage, hinges with slotted members, hinges formed from flexible support structures, and hinges based on flexible housing structures. Flexible displays may be mounted to the housing portions overlapping the hinges. When the housing portions in a device are rotated relative to each other, the flexible display may bend. The hinge may be configured to allow the flexible display to be placed in a front-to-front configuration in which an active side of the display faces itself or a back-to-back configuration. Engagement structures may be used to help the housing grip external objects and to hold the housing portions together. The hinges may be provided with rotational detents to help hold the flexible display in desired positions.
