Surgical tool system including a navigation unit that receives information about implant the system is to implant and that responds to the received information

A surgical tool system for fitting an implant to a patient. The system includes a handpiece that is used to fit the implant. The handpiece is capable of reading data from a memory integral with the implant. The system includes a surgical navigation system capable of monitoring the position of the handpiece relative to the patient. Based on the data read by the handpiece from the memory of the implantable device and the data regarding the position of the implant the navigation system presents information regarding the procedure. This information includes data regarding the position of the implant relative to the patient or textual information based on the type of implantable device. If the implant is being improperly position, the surgical navigation system presents a warning or inhibits actuation of the handpiece.

Fail-safe actuation system

Disclosed is a fail-safe fluidic actuation system (1) having a safety position, comprising a control element (2) having at least one first and one second chamber (3, 4); having a working circuit (5) with a motor/pump device (6), wherein the control element can be actuated by means of the working circuit at least in the operational state. Furthermore, the actuating system comprises a discharge valve (9) which, in a failure state, is placed into a pass-through position in order to discharge fluid from the second chamber, and the safety circuit is designed such that, in the operational state, an inflow decoupled from the store can be generated into the control element by means of the working circuit with the motor/pump device, wherein by means of the safety circuit, in a failure state, an inflow fully decoupled from the working circuit with the motor/pump device is provided into the first chamber by means of the store, wherein the control element has three chambers, and wherein the safety circuit is designed such that, in the operational state, an inflow decoupled from the store can be generated into the third chamber (15) by means of the working circuit with the motor/pump device.

Surgical instrument including a locking assembly

A surgical instrument including a handle portion, a body portion, an articulating tool assembly and a locking assembly is disclosed. The handle portion includes a movable handle. The body portion extends distally from the handle portion and defines a first longitudinal axis. The articulating tool assembly defines a second longitudinal axis and is movable from a first position where the second longitudinal axis is substantially aligned with the first longitudinal axis to at least a second position where the second longitudinal axis is at an angle to the first longitudinal axis. The locking assembly includes a member that is advanceable distally with respect to the body portion. The member engages the articulating tool assembly upon manipulation of the movable handle to move an anvil and a cartridge assembly in approximation with one another to help maintain the articulating tool assembly in its first position.

Policy-based application management

Improved techniques for managing enterprise applications on mobile devices are described herein. Each enterprise mobile application running on the mobile device has an associated policy through which it interacts with its environment. The policy selectively blocks or allows activities involving the enterprise application in accordance with rules established by the enterprise. Together, the enterprise applications running on the mobile device form a set of managed applications. Managed applications are typically allowed to exchange data with other managed applications, but are blocked from exchanging data with other applications, such as the user's own personal applications. Policies may be defined to manage data sharing, mobile resource management, application specific information, networking and data access solutions, device cloud and transfer, dual mode application software, enterprise app store access, and virtualized application and resources, among other things.
