ROBOTICALLY-CONTROLLED END EFFECTOR
A surgical end effector can comprise a first jaw, a staple cartridge supported by the first jaw, wherein the staple cartridge comprises a plurality of staples removably stored therein, a second jaw comprising an anvil, wherein the second jaw is rotatable relative to the first jaw between an open position and a closed position, and wherein the anvil is configured to deform the staples when the staples are deployed from the staple cartridge. The surgical end effector can further comprise a sensor configured to detect when the anvil is in its closed position. The second jaw can be rotatable relative to the first jaw toward a closed position and the surgical end effector can comprise detection means for detecting if the anvil is in its closed position.

Apparatus, systems and methods for determining tissue oxygenation
A surgical instrument may be configured to sense a light re-emitting probe to resolve tissue oxygenation, the surgical instrument including: an optical emitter configured to excite the light re-emitting probe within an absorption band of the light re-emitting probe; an optical detector configured to receive the re-emitted light from the probe; and a signal processor configured to resolve the tissue oxygenation based on the received light. The surgical instrument can be a surgical stapler anvil or a flexible substrate having a tissue interfacing surface. Further, a monitoring device may be configured to map oxygenation of a tissue containing a light re-emitting probe, the monitoring device including: an optical emitter configured to excite the light re-emitting probe; at least one optical detector configured to receive the re-emitted light from the probe; and a signal processor that is configured to resolve the tissue oxygenation at multiple points to generate an oxygen map.

MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC PROBE CALIBRATION
Embodiments of the present disclosure include an optical probe capable of communicating identification information to a patient monitor in addition to signals indicative of intensities of light after attenuation by body tissue. The identification information may indicate operating wavelengths of light sources, indicate a type of probe, such as, for example, that the probe is an adult probe, a pediatric probe, a neonatal probe, a disposable probe, a reusable probe, or the like. The information could also be utilized for security purposes, such as, for example, to ensure that the probe is configured properly for the oximeter, to indicate that the probe is from an authorized supplier, or the like.
