Electrode wiping surgical device

Aspects of the present disclosure include a surgical device comprising electrodes on the sides of an end of an effector to aide in sealing during various surgical procedures, such as a liver resection. During a sealing procedure, the surgeon may wipe the surgical site with the end effector, causing the electrodes to touch the fractured area. Electrosurgical energy may be applied to the electrodes during the wiping, causing coagulation of smaller vessels, such as tiny blood vessels and bile ducts in the parenchyma of the liver. In some cases, due to the nature of some smaller vessels, electrosurgical energy should be delicately applied to cause sealing but to avoid overly damaging the remaining tissue. In some embodiments, the thin design of the electrodes allows for an appropriate amount of electrosurgical energy to be applied to the fractured area.

A method for treating a patient includes a surgical instrument having a handle assembly, a shaft assembly, and an end effector. The end effector includes an upper jaw and a lower jaw configured to pivot to receive a tissue of the patient therebetween. The upper and lower jaws respectively have upper and lower crush surfaces, which extends generally parallel with a centerline and are configured to receive the tissue thereagainst. The upper jaw also includes an anvil, whereas the lower jaw includes a staple cartridge and a deck facing the anvil. In addition, the lower jaw has a plurality of staple opening formed through the deck with a plurality of staples received therein. The upper and lower crush surfaces are configured to compress the tissue therebetween with a crush pressure configured to sever the tissue along the upper and lower crush surfaces.

Surgical stapler end effector with multi-staple driver crossing center line

A surgical instrument includes an end effector extending along a jaw centerline. A staple cartridge is received in the end effector. The staple cartridge includes deck, staples, a wedge sled, and a driver assembly. The staples are positioned in respective openings formed through the deck. The wedge sled is slidable through the staple cartridge. The driver assembly has a first driver and a second driver. The first driver receives a first staple of the plurality of staples. The second driver receives a second staple of the plurality of staples. The driver assembly is configured to be engaged by the wedge sled sliding toward the distal sled position and thereby be forced toward a first jaw of the end effector, thereby forcing the first and second staples toward an anvil of the first jaw for formation in tissue. The driver assembly is positioned along the centerline.

Surgical staple actuating sled with actuation stroke having minimized distance relative to distal staple

A surgical instrument includes an end effector with a staple cartridge. The staple cartridge includes a deck, a terminal driver assembly, and a wedge sled. The terminal driver assembly is positioned adjacent to a distal tip of the staple cartridge. The terminal driver assembly is configured to receive a first terminal portion of staples in the staple cartridge. The terminal driver assembly at least partially defines a storage space therebelow within jaw of the end effector. The wedge sled is configured to longitudinally slide proximate to the deck and engage the terminal driver assembly and force the terminal portion of the plurality of staples toward the anvil for formation in tissue. At least a majority of the wedge sled is configured to fit within the storage space and not slide distally beyond the terminal driver assembly when the wedge sled is in the distal sled position.

Power tool with separate motor case compartment

A handheld grinder includes an elongated housing, an electric motor, an output shaft, a wall, a planar circuit board, and a motor drive circuit. The elongated housing defines a cavity therein and includes a motor case disposed at a front end and a handle portion to a rear end. The electric motor has a drive shaft that is mounted within the motor case. The output shaft is drivably coupled to the drive shaft of the electric motor. The wall separates the cavity between the motor case and the handle portion of the housing. The planar circuit board disposed in the handle portion of the housing. The motor drive circuit is accommodated entirely within the handle portion of the housing on the planar circuit board.

Surgical stapler end effector with knife position indicators

A surgical instrument includes an end effector. The end effector includes a first jaw, a second jaw, and a translating member. The first jaw includes an anvil, an upper elongated channel extending therethrough, and a first plurality of indicia positioned proximate to the first elongated channel. The second jaw includes a second elongated channel extending therethrough and a second plurality of indicia positioned proximate to the second elongated channel. The translating member is received within the first and second channels. The translating member is configured to slide distally along the first and second channels and engage a wedge sled for forming staples. The translating member includes a first indicator and a second indicator, wherein the first and second indicators in conjunction with the first and lower plurality of indicia are respectively configured to indicate one or both of staple usage or a cut position to an operator.

Hotword recognition

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for receiving audio data corresponding to an utterance, determining that the audio data corresponds to a hotword, generating a hotword audio fingerprint of the audio data that is determined to correspond to the hotword, comparing the hotword audio fingerprint to one or more stored audio fingerprints of audio data that was previously determined to correspond to the hotword, detecting whether the hotword audio fingerprint matches a stored audio fingerprint of audio data that was previously determined to correspond to the hotword based on whether the comparison indicates a similarity between the hotword audio fingerprint and one of the one or more stored audio fingerprints that satisfies a predetermined threshold, and in response to detecting that the hotword audio fingerprint matches a stored audio fingerprint, disabling access to a computing device into which the utterance was spoken.
