Powered stapling apparatus
A stapler is provided. The stapler includes a handle assembly and a shaft extending distally from the handle assembly. A tool assembly is configured to selectively couple to the shaft and includes a cartridge assembly and an anvil assembly. The cartridge assembly includes a staple guide defining a tissue contacting surface. A resilient member operably positioned within the cartridge assembly is configured to bias the staple guide distally to provide a predetermined compressive force against tissue when the cartridge assembly and anvil are approximated toward one another.

Hand held rotary powered surgical instruments with end effectors that are articulatable about multiple axes
A surgical instrument comprising a handle, a firing system, a shaft assembly defining a shaft axis, an articulation joint assembly, an end effector, and articulation means is disclosed. The shaft assembly comprises at least one rotary drive shaft assembly. The articulation joint assembly comprises a first joint segment defining a proximal socket, a second joint segment comprising a proximal gimbal movably supported within the proximal socket and defining a distal socket, and a third joint segment comprising a distal gimbal movably supported within the distal socket. The surgical end effector is operably coupled to the third joint segment and comprises a firing member operably interfacing with the at least one rotary drive shaft assembly. The articulation means selectively moves the third joint segment in multiple directions that are transverse to the shaft axis.

Electronic bailout for motorized RF device
Methods and devices are provided for retracting a cutting assembly in the event of a failure on a motorized electrosurgical device. For instance, a surgical device is provided that includes a handle portion with an elongated shaft having first and second jaws. The device includes a cutting assembly configured to cut tissue engaged between the first and second jaws. A motor is included to drive the cutting assembly, and a processor is coupled to the motor. An actuator on the device is configured to receive an input from a user that causes power to be supplied to the motor. The device has a normal mode in which the processor controls the motor, and the device has a bailout mode in which the processor is bypassed and power is delivered directly to the motor.

Integrated bailout for motorized RF device
Methods and devices are provided for retracting a cutting assembly in the event of a failure on a motorized electrosurgical device. For example, a surgical device is provided that includes a handle portion with an elongate shaft that has first and second jaws configured to engage tissue. The device also includes a cutting assembly configured to cut tissue engaged between the first and second jaws and a drive shaft that moves the cutting assembly. A gear box is provided in the device that is coupled to the drive shaft, and a motor is coupled to the gear box for driving the gear box. The device has a normal mode in which power can be provided to the motor to drive the gear box, and the device has a bailout mode in which the motor and gear box can be manually rotated as a unit.

Formation of SiOCN thin films
Methods for depositing silicon oxycarbonitride (SiOCN) thin films on a substrate in a reaction space are provided. The methods can include at least one plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) cycle including alternately and sequentially contacting the substrate with a silicon precursor and a second reactant that does not include oxygen. In some embodiments the methods allow for the deposition of SiOCN films having improved acid-based wet etch resistance.

Dual step bailout for motorized RF device
Methods and devices are provided for retracting a cutting assembly in the event of a failure on a motorized electrosurgical device. A surgical device is provided that includes a handle portion with an elongate shaft extending distally therefrom. The elongate shaft has first and second jaws at a distal end, and the jaws are configured to engage tissue. The surgical device also has a cutting assembly configured to cut tissue engaged between the first and second jaws. A drive shaft extends from the handle of the surgical device through the elongate shaft and is coupled to the cutting assembly for moving the cutting assembly. The surgical device has a motorized gear assembly with at least one motor driven gear that is configured to move the drive shaft. The surgical device also has a bailout assembly that is configured to manually move the drive shaft.
