Articulating surgical stapling instrument incorporating a two-piece e-beam firing mechanism
A surgical severing and stapling instrument, clamps tissue within an end effector of an elongate channel pivotally opposed by an anvil. An E-beam firing bar moves distally through the clamped end effector to sever tissue and to drive staples on each side of the cut. The E-beam firing bar affirmatively spaces the anvil from the elongate channel to assure properly formed closed staples, especially when an amount of tissue is clamped that is inadequate to space the end effector. In particular, an upper pin of the firing bar longitudinally moves through an anvil slot and a channel slot is captured between a lower cap and a middle pin of the firing bar to assure a minimum spacing. Forming the E-beam from a thickened distal portion and a thinned proximal strip enhances manufacturability and facilitates use in such articulating surgical instruments.

Apparatus and methods for inducing electromagnetic waves on a cable
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, receiving a communication signal, and generating an electromagnetic wave that propagates along an outer surface of a dielectric layer environmentally formed on a cable. The dielectric layer can be a liquid disposed on an outer surface of the cable that enables the electromagnetic wave to propagate along the dielectric layer of the cable without an electrical return path, and conveys the communication signal. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Apparatus and methods for inducing electromagnetic waves on an uninsulated conductor
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, receiving a plurality of communication signals, and generating, by a transmitting device according to the plurality of communication signals, a plurality of wireless signals that induces a plurality of electromagnetic waves that propagates along a pseudo dielectric layer of an uninsulated conductor. The plurality of electromagnetic waves can propagate along the pseudo dielectric layer of the uninsulated conductor without an electrical return path, each electromagnetic wave of the plurality of electromagnetic waves conveying at least a portion of the plurality of communication signals. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Method and apparatus for use with a radio distributed antenna system having a control channel reference signal
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a base station interface configured to receive a modulated signal in a first spectral segment directed to a mobile communication device, wherein the modulated signal conforms to a wireless signaling protocol. A transceiver is configured to: convert the modulated signal in the first spectral segment to the first modulated signal in a second spectral segment based on a signal processing of the modulated signal and without modifying the wireless signaling protocol of the modulated signal, wherein the second spectral segment is outside the first spectral segment; generate fault mitigation messaging in a control channel; and transmit the modulated signal in the second spectral segment and the control channel to another network device of the distributed antenna system.
