In one general aspect, various embodiments of the present invention can include a motorized surgical cutting and fastening instrument having a drive shaft, a motor selectively engageable with the drive shaft, and a manual return mechanism configured to operably disengage the motor from the drive shaft and retract the drive shaft. In at least one embodiment, a surgeon, or other operator of the surgical instrument, can utilize the manual return mechanism to retract the drive shaft after it has been advanced, especially when the motor, or a power source supplying the motor, has failed or is otherwise unable to provide a force sufficient to retract the drive shaft.

Methods of depositing a metal film with high purity are discussed. A catalyst enhanced CVD process is utilized comprising an alkyl halide catalyst soak and a precursor exposure. The precursor comprises a metal precursor having the general formula (I): M-L1(L2)y, wherein M is a metal, L1 is an aromatic ligand, L2 is an aliphatic ligand, and y is a number in the range of from 2 to 8 to form a metal film on the substrate surface, wherein the L2 comprises 1,5-hexdiene, 1,4-hexadiene, and less than 5% of 1,3-hexadiene. Selective deposition of a metal film with high purity on a metal surface over a dielectric surface is described.

Surgical hub systems are disclosed. A surgical hub system comprises a surgical hub configured to communicably couple to a modular device comprising a sensor configured to detect data associated with the modular device and a device processor. The surgical hub comprises a hub processor, a hub memory coupled to the hub processor. The surgical hub system also comprises a distributed control system executable at least in part by each of the device processor and the hub processor. The distributed control system is configured to: receive the data detected by the sensor; determine control adjustments for the modular device according to the data; and control the modular device according to the control adjustments. When in a first mode, the distributed control system is executed by both the hub processor and the device processor. In a second mode, the distributed control system is executed solely by the device processor.
