Surgical instruments and/or fastener apparatuses comprising an end effector with a pair of jaws pivoted at a proximal end thereof and movable between an open and closed position. At least one of the jaws may comprise a channel for receiving a cartridge containing a plurality of surgical fasteners. Also, an electrically powered actuator may be for deploying the surgical fasteners and may comprise a power source and a motor. An activation mechanism may be attached to the handle to move the pair of jaws from the open to the closed position and to activate the actuator. A lockout mechanism may be configured to permit current to flow from the power source to the motor when the pair of jaws is in the closed position and to prevent current from flowing to the power source to the motor when the pair of jaws is in the open position.

Patient-specific medical systems, devices, and methods
Systems and methods for designing and implementing patient-specific surgical procedures and/or medical devices are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method includes receiving a patient data set of a patient. The patient data set is compared to a plurality of reference patient data sets, wherein each of the plurality of reference patient data sets is associated with a corresponding reference patient. A subset of the plurality of reference patient data sets is selected based, at least partly, on similarity to the patient data set and treatment outcome of the corresponding reference patient. Based on the selected subset, at least one surgical procedure or medical device design for treating the patient is generated.

Spatially distinguished, multiplex nucleic acid analysis of biological specimens
A method for spatially tagging nucleic acids of a biological specimen, including steps of (a) providing a solid support comprising different nucleic acid probes that are randomly located on the solid support, wherein the different nucleic acid probes each includes a barcode sequence that differs from the barcode sequence of other randomly located probes on the solid support; (b) performing a nucleic acid detection reaction on the solid support to locate the barcode sequences on the solid support; (c) contacting a biological specimen with the solid support that has the randomly located probes; (d) hybridizing the randomly located probes to target nucleic acids from portions of the biological specimen; and (e) modifying the randomly located probes that are hybridized to the target nucleic acids, thereby producing modified probes that include the barcode sequences and a target specific modification, thereby spatially tagging the nucleic acids of the biological specimen.

Adjustment to the surgical stapling control based on situational awareness
A method of adjusting a staple parameter of a surgical stapling instrument is disclosed. The method includes determining, by a control circuit of the surgical stapling instrument, a first stroke length for a first staple driver of the surgical stapling instrument to drive a first row of staples of a circular stapling head assembly of the surgical stapling instrument; detecting, by the control circuit, a malformed staple in the first row of staples; adjusting, by the control circuit, the staple parameter, based on the detection of the malformed staple; and determining, by the control circuit, a second stroke length for a second staple driver of the surgical stapling instrument to drive a second row of staples of the circular stapling head assembly.

High performance software-defined core network
A method comprising instantiating virtual routers (VRs) at each of a set of nodes that form a network. Each VR is coupled to the network and to a tenant of the node. The network comprises virtual links in an overlay network provisioned over an underlay network including servers of a public network. The method comprises configuring at least one VR to include a feedback control system comprising at least one objective function that characterizes the network. The method comprises configuring the VR to receive link state data of a set of virtual links of the virtual links, and control routing of a tenant traffic flow of each tenant according to a best route of the network determined by the at least one objective function using the link state data.

Ontology-driven conversational interface for data analysis
A computer-implemented method for generating an ontology-driven conversational interface includes generating an ontology from a description of a domain schema of a Data Analysis (DA) model, in which the DA model is a defined in terms of quantifiable, qualifying or categorical entities and their relationships as described by the domain schema. Conversational artifacts of a conversation space including a conversational pattern framework are generated by extracting DA-related intents, entities, and a dialog from the generated ontology for the conversational interface. A dialog logic table maps DA-related patterns to intents, extracted quantifiable, qualifying or categorical attributes to entities, and the dialog to user-prompts for one or more parameters in an identified DA pattern. The conversation space is integrated with at least one of an external data source or an analytics platform that stores and processes data.

Methods and apparatus for application aware hub clustering techniques for a hyper scale SD-WAN
Some embodiments provide a method for a software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) connecting first and second sites, with the first site including an edge node and the second site including multiple forwarding hub nodes. At the edge node of the first site, the method receives a packet of a particular flow including a flow attribute. The method uses the flow attribute to identify a hub-selection rule from multiple hub-selection rules, each hub-selection rule identifying at least one forwarding hub node at the second site for receiving one or more flows from the first site, and at least one hub-selection rule identifying at least one forwarding hub node that is not identified by another hub-selection rule. The method uses the identified hub-selection rule to identify a forwarding hub node for the particular flow. The method then sends the packet from the edge node at the first site to the identified forwarding hub node at the second site.
