Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

This invention relates generally to safety accessories and, more particularly, to a survival kit having a waterproof case adapted with survival items built in or otherwise contained.

2. Description of the Prior Art

The use of survival kits in emergency situations is well known. In situations where an individual or a group may become lost, stranded, or otherwise disposed in a location having no access to food, water, or communication equipment, it is important that they are prepared to survive until located by rescue efforts. This means that such an individual or group must have materials and tools which would enable them to survive in the wilderness or other adverse circumstances prior to the initiation of and during such rescue efforts, which may span a period of several days to several weeks. Despite such a known potential time span which must be accounted for, a problem which still exists with existing survival kits is that they typical merely contain sufficient materials and supplies to help a user(s) survive for a matter of days. Such kits in the prior art do not additionally contain built in materials which can provide knowledge and know-how which could allow such a user(s) to survive indefinitely in various environments. Thus, there remains a need for a wilderness survival kit which has removably attachable information packets which provide a reference for survival related knowledge and know-how. It would be helpful if such a wilderness survival kit provided the requisite tools to employ the know-how to enable a user(s) to survive for an extended period of time. It would be additionally desirable for such a wilderness survival kit to be embodied in a compact container having an easily accessible interior.

The Applicant's invention described herein provides for a wilderness survival kit containing tools which provides basic survival items along with instructions on how to survive in various environments. The primary component of Applicant's wilderness survival kit are a mini duffle bag having built into its interior liner a plurality of instructional booklets and containing items for finding an sustaining food and water. When in operation, the wilderness survival kit allows a user to access and reference survival information with accompanies the survival kit and employ the know-how gleaned therefrom with the contained tools or material in nature. As a result, many of the limitations imposed by the prior art kits are removed.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

A wilderness survival kit for providing the tools and knowledge for surviving in an emergency situation. The wilderness survival kit comprises a mini duffle bag defined by an elongated surface having an interior surface and an exterior surface. The exterior surface includes a top handle, two back straps, and a zipper mechanism. The mini duffle bag can be rolled up and zipped up into a compact state to be carried by a user at her side by the handle or on her back with the back straps. The open state is defined by the mini duffle bag being unrolled so as to expose the elongated interior surface. The interior surface has built in or otherwise attached the contents of the mini duffle bag, which includes a plurality of built in instructional books, an LED light fixture a canteen and canteen cup, a parachute cord, a medical aid kit, a folding knife, a loose item pack, an emergency blanket, and a storage pack. The attached items are strapped down by straps which are attached to the interior surface by hook and loop fasteners.

It is an object of this invention to provide a wilderness survival kit which has removably attachable information packets which provide a reference for survival related knowledge and know-how.

It is another object of this invention to provide a wilderness survival kit providing the requisite tools to employ the know-how to enable a user(s) to survive for an extended period of time.

It is yet another object of this invention to provide a wilderness survival kit embodied in a compact container having an easily accessible interior.

These and other objects will be apparent to one of skill in the art.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1a is a front elevational view of a wilderness survival kit in accordance with the present invention in its compact state.

FIG. 1b is a back elevational view of a wilderness survival kit in accordance with the present invention in its compact state.

FIG. 2a is a top plan view of a wilderness survival kit in accordance with the present invention in its open state.

FIG. 2b is a bottom plan view of a wilderness survival kit in accordance with the present invention in its open state

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring now to the drawings and in particular FIGS. 1a, 1b, 2a, and 2b, a wilderness survival kit 10 is shown as a mini duffle bag 11 having a top handle 12 and two back straps 13. The mini duffle bag 11 is configured to be selectively placed in a compact state and in an open state. In its compact state, mini duffle bag 11 can be carried by a user at her side by the handle 12 or on her back with the back straps 13. In addition, a zipper 14a and zipper track 14b are provided to enable the mini duffle bag, when in its compact state, to be zipped closed. When zipped closed in its compact state, the mini duffle bag forms a waterproof container. The mini duffle bag 11 is configured to be placed in its compact state by rolling the bag up and the zipping it closed, thus allowing it to be transported with all of its contents secured inside and protected from the elements.

The open state of the mini duffle bag 11 is defined by it being unrolled so that its entire elongated surface is visible. On one side, the interior surface 15 has built in or otherwise attached the contents of the mini duffle bag 11. The exterior surface 16 includes the components which allow the mini duffle bag to roll up and be set into its compact state.

The interior surface 15 of the mini duffle bag 11 includes a plurality of removably attachable instructional books 20, including a wilderness guide book, a wild edibles book, a medical care book, and an urban anti-terrorism survival book. Included in the wilderness survival kit is an instruction guide for the components of the wilderness survival kit 10. These books are built into the interior surface by way of a loop surface of a hook and loop fastener on each book and a corresponding hook surface on the interior surface 15. and the pages are covered with a waterproof material. In the preferred embodiment, such a hook and loop fastener system allows the books to be removably attached to the interior surface 15. In between the books is an LED light fixture 21 having built in LED light and battery. The LED light fixture 21 is configured to provide light to allow the books 20 to be read at night or otherwise provide illumination in times necessary for survival. The LED light also is configured to provide red light in the alternative of white light for situations where light discipline is required.

Attached to the interior surface 15 is a canteen 22 and canteen cup 23, a parachute cord 24, a medical aid kit 25, a loose item pack 27, an emergency blanket 28, and a storage pack 29. A folding knife 26 is disposed in an outer pocket 26a where it is easily accessible to a user. The knife 26 is attached to a retracting draw string 26b which is fastened to the surface of the outer pocket 26a and the base of the knife 26. In the preferred embodiment, the loose item pack 27 includes matches, chicken bouillon cubes, a lighter, antibacterial wipes, two tampons, iodine, and a magnesium flint bar. The storage pack 29 is constructed of insulated material and provided to allow items collected by the user(s) to be stored in the waterproof container. These attached items are strapped down by straps 17 which are, in the preferred embodiment, attached to the interior surface by hook and loop fasteners.

In operation, the wilderness survival kit 10 can be stored in a larger bag or a vehicle by a user until it is needed. The items contained therein are not subject to spoilage and are not temperature sensitive, so it is contemplated that the wilderness survival kit can be stored indefinitely. Once needed, it can be carried around by a user, with its contents accessed by merely unzipping it an unrolling it to its open state. Once it is desired to transport it again, all attached items can be securely re-attached to the interior surface 15, and the wilderness survival kit 10 can be rolled up and zipper up, back to its compact state.

It is contemplated that the tampons could serve as a quick and easy blood stopper for bullet wounds and a tinder bundle for starting fires, in addition to customary functions. Moreover, the iodine could allow for purifying water or disinfecting. The magnesium flint bar provides another tool which provides a means to start a fire.

The instant invention has been shown and described herein in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made therefrom within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
