This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 61/944,844 filed on Feb. 26, 2014. The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.
The present invention relates to a combination garment and jewelry system. More specifically, the present invention provides a garment having a neckline with a plurality of fasteners disposed on the neckline. The fasteners are adapted to engage with fasteners disposed on the ends of a chain or necklace so that the user can removably secure a jewelry element to the garment.
Many people wear jewelry in order to enhance their appearance or to provide a desired look. Various types of jewelry are worn including chains, necklaces, and chokers, among others. However, these types of jewelry typically include a clasp that must be fastened in an area at the back of the user's neck. Securing a clasp can be difficult since the clasp is small and the user is unable to see the clasp. Securing the clasp can be particularly challenging for people having a handicap or poor hand dexterity. Thus, a piece of jewelry that can be more easily adorned and that does not require a clasp fastener is desired.
Devices have been disclosed in the prior art that relate to garment and jewelry devices having magnetic fasteners. These include devices that have been patented and published in patent application publications. Some devices provide devices for securing objects or cables to garments using magnetic means, such as U.S. Published Patent Application Number 2013/0048341, U.S. Pat. No. 8,615,853, and U.S. Published Patent Application Number 2012/01511661. These prior art devices have several known drawbacks. These devices fail to provide a garment having fasteners on the neckline thereof that are adapted to removably engage with a necklace or other jewelry element having fasteners on the ends thereof. Thus, the devices do not allow a user to removably secure necklaces and other jewelry directly to the garment.
In light of the devices disclosed in the prior art, it is submitted that the present invention substantially diverges in design elements from the prior art and consequently it is clear that there is a need in the art for an improvement to existing combination garment and jewelry devices. In this regard the instant invention substantially fulfills these needs.
In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of combination garment and jewelry devices now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a new combination garment and jewelry device wherein the same can be utilized for providing convenience for the user when removably securing any of various jewelry elements, such as necklaces to a garment.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved combination garment and jewelry device that has all of the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a combination garment and jewelry device comprising a garment with fasteners thereon adapted to engage with a jewelry element, such as a necklace.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a combination garment and jewelry device comprising a garment having a neckline, wherein fasteners are disposed on the neckline.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a combination garment and jewelry device comprising a jewelry element, such as a chain, choker, or necklace, wherein the jewelry element includes fasteners on the ends thereof.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a combination garment and jewelry device comprising magnetic fasteners for removably securing a jewelry element to a garment.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a combination garment and jewelry device that may be readily fabricated from materials that permit relative economy and are commensurate with durability.
Other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the combination garment and jewelry system. For the purposes of presenting a brief and clear description of the present invention, the preferred embodiment will be discussed as used for providing a user with a garment adapted to receive any of various jewelry elements thereon for allowing a user to more easily adorn jewelry. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.
Referring now to FIG. 1, there is shown a perspective view of the combination garment and jewelry system. The combination garment and jewelry system 11 comprises a garment 12 having a neckline 13, wherein a plurality of fasteners 14, 15 is positioned on the neckline 13. The system further includes a jewelry element 21 that includes fasteners 24, 25 thereon that can be removably secured to the plurality of fasteners 14, 15 on the neckline 13 of the garment 12. The jewelry element 21 includes a chain 23 having a first end 24 and a second end 25 and that may further includes one or more charms or pendants 22.
Referring now to FIG. 2, there is shown a close-up view of an embodiment of the garment of the present invention. The garment 11 preferably comprises an upper body garment having a neckline 13, such as a long-sleeved shirt, a short sleeved shirt, a T-shirt, a polo shirt, among others. Further, the garment 12 may include a blouse or a dress or the like. The neckline 13 can be a V-neck, a crew neck, a square neck, a swoop neck, or any of various other types of necklines 13.
Preferably, a pair of fasteners 14, 15 are disposed on an interior surface of the neckline 13 so that they are not visible on the exterior of the garment 12. The fasteners 14, 15 are preferably located on a front portion of the neckline 13 so that the fasteners 14, 15 are positioned on the front of the user when the garment 12 is adorned by the user. Further, the fasteners 14, 15 are preferably spaced from one another, and are located on opposing sides of the neckline 13.
The fasteners 14, 15 are preferably magnetic fasteners, and may include magnets or magnetic material. However, in alternate embodiments, the fasteners 14, 15 may include various other types of fasteners, including buttons, snaps, clips, clasps, or any other suitable type of fastener for removably securing a jewelry element.
Referring now to FIG. 3, there is shown a close-up view of an embodiment of the jewelry element of the present invention. The jewelry element 21 can resemble any of various types of jewelry including a necklace, chain, or choker, among others. The jewelry element preferably includes a chain 23 having a first end and second end, wherein the chain 23 can be composed of any of various materials, including silver, gold, or platinum, among others. The chain 23 may include one or more pendants 22, charms, or lockets thereon to provide a decorative and ornamental appearance. The pendants 22 can also be composed of any of various materials and may further include gemstones, diamonds, or other colored beads.
The first end of the chain 23 includes a first fastener 24 thereon, and the second end includes a second fastener 25 thereon. The fasteners 24, 25 are adapted to removably engage with the fasteners on the neckline of the garment. Thus, the fasteners 24, 25 are preferably magnetic so as to be magnetically secured to magnetic fasteners on the neckline of the garment. However, in alternate embodiments the fasteners 24, 25 can include other types of fasteners, such as buttons, snaps, clips, clasps, or any other suitable type of fastener that corresponds with the fastener on the neckline of the garment.
Alternatively, the fasteners 24, 25 can be removably secured to one another so that the user can wear the jewelry element 21 without securing the jewelry element to a garment. Preferably, the fasteners 24, 25 are magnetic so that the user can easily secure the jewelry element 21 around the user's neck by placing the first fastener 24 in contact with the second fastener 25. This eliminates the need for the user to secure a fastener, such as a clasp, on a conventional necklace.
