The present application claims the benefit of and priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/721,819 filed on Nov. 18, 2024, and U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/703,410 filed on Oct. 4, 2024, each of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
The present disclosure is directed generally to the field of protective equipment. The present disclosure relates specifically to a personal protective equipment device/component (e.g., a hard hat, helmet, etc.) that includes a user profile tag.
One embodiment of the invention relates to a protective equipment system including a hard hat configured to be worn by a person, and a user profile tag coupled to the hard hat. The user profile tag is configured to electronically identify, via being scanned, the person wearing the hard hat.
In specific embodiments, the user profile tag is rigidly coupled to the hard hat. In specific embodiments, the user profile tag is coupled to the hard hat via an adhesive. In specific embodiments, the user profile tag is rigidly coupled to a slot defined by the hard hat. In specific embodiments, the user profile tag is mechanically and reversibly rigidly coupled to the slot. In specific embodiments, the user profile tag including a connection tab that extends downward and through the slot of the hard hat. In specific embodiments, the connection tab defines an engagement surface that faces upward and engages against a surface of the hard hat when the connection tab is extending through the slot of the hard hat.
In specific embodiments, the user profile tag is configured to electronically identify, via being electronically scanned, the person wearing the hard hat. In specific embodiments, the user profile tag is configured to provide, via being electronically scanned, medical information about the person wearing the hard hat. In specific embodiments, the user profile tag is configured to provide, via being electronically scanned, one or more certifications obtained by the person wearing the hard hat.
Another embodiment of the invention relates to a method of using a user profile tag including pairing a personal electronic device to a user profile tag coupled to a protective apparel being worn by a user, and using the personal electronic device to store one or more pieces of data relating to the user on the user profile tag.
In specific embodiments, the method includes coupling the user profile tag to the protective apparel. In specific embodiments, the user profile tag is coupled to the protective apparel via adhesive. In specific embodiments, the method includes rigidly and mechanically reversibly coupling the user profile tag to the protective apparel, and the protective apparel is a hard hat. In specific embodiments, the method includes electronically scanning the user profile tag to obtain information about the user wearing the user profile tag. In specific embodiments, the information includes medical information about the user wearing the user profile tag. In specific embodiments, the information identifies one or more certifications obtained by the user wearing the user profile tag.
Another embodiment of the invention relates to a user profile tag including a base, a connection tab coupled to the base, the connection tab configured to rigidly couple the base to a protective apparel, and electronics rigidly coupled to the base. The electronics are configured to electronically identify, via being electronically scanned, a person wearing the protective apparel.
In specific embodiments, the protective apparel is a hard hat, and the connection tab defines an engagement surface configured to face upward and engage against a surface of the hard hat when the connection tab is extending through a slot of the hard hat. In specific embodiments, the protective apparel is a hard hat, and the connection tab is configured to rigidly and mechanically reversibly couple the base to the hard hat.
Another embodiment of the invention relates to a protective equipment system including a hard hat configured to be worn by a person, a user profile tag coupled to the protective apparel, the user profile tag configured to electronically identify a person wearing the protective apparel. In various embodiments, the electronic user profile tag is rigidly coupled to the hard hat. In various embodiments, the electronic user profile tag is detachably coupled to the hard hat. In various embodiments, the electronic user profile tag is scannable and when scanned provides information related to the person.

Referring generally to the figures, various embodiments of a protective equipment device with an integrated user profile tag associated with/supported by a portion/housing of the protective equipment device are shown. In various embodiments, the user profile tag includes, stores or links to information associated with the wearer/user of the protective equipment device. In various embodiments, the protective equipment device is a hard hat. In various embodiments, the user profile tag includes, stores or links to information to be accessed in case of emergency. In various embodiments, the user profile tag stores information related to the wearer/user of the protective equipment device, such as contact info, medical info, etc. In various embodiments, the user profile tag stores information related to the wearer/user of the protective equipment device, such as certification information. In various embodiments, a computer/communication system that receives, processes, stores and communicates information within the system based on information received from a protective equipment device with an integrated user profile tag is provided.
Referring to FIG. 1, various aspects of protective equipment system 110 are shown. Protective equipment system 110 includes protective apparel, shown as hard hat 300, and user profile tag 140 coupled to hard hat 300. In various embodiments, protective apparel, shown as hard hat 300, is configured to be worn by a person. In various embodiments, user profile tag 140 is coupled to shell 312 of hard hat 300. As will be explained, hard hat 300 includes one or more front slot 338, central slot 340, and rear slot 342, such as on the side of hard hat 300, one or more of which, such as front slot 338 and rear slot 342, are configured to couple to various embodiments of user profile tags. In various embodiments, user profile tag 140 is rigidly coupled to hard hat 300.
Referring to FIGS. 2-3, various aspects of user profile tag 140 and cell phone 160 are shown. User profile tag 140 is configured to interface with, such as electronically interface with, a personal electronic device, shown as cell phone 160. Cell phone 160 includes display 162 and an application 164 executing on cell phone 160.
In use, users 282 use cell phone 160 to scan user profile tag 140, thereby enabling communication between cell phone 160 and user profile tag 140. Subsequently, user 282 can interface with application 164 to provide personal information 166 to user profile tag 140, such as the name of the user 282, the date of birth, any allergies, such as to penicillin or latex, any medical conditions for the user, such as if they have epilepsy, and the name and/or contact information (e.g., phone number) for any emergency contacts for the user 282. After user 282 enters the information into application 164, cell phone 160 communicates that information, such as via wireless communication (e.g., radio frequency, blue tooth, near field communication) to user profile tag 140, which stores that information in memory. In various embodiments application 164 displays an image on display 162 of cell phone 160, and the image can include one or more of the pieces of information that user 282 has entered into application 164 that are stored on user profile tag 140.
Referring to FIG. 4, user profile tag 140 for user 282 may be scanned by scanner 180. As one example, when user 282 enters and/or leaves a worksite a person 280, such as a manager 284, may scan user profile tag 140 via scanner 180, which communicates the relevant information to computing device 190, such as a server. In various embodiments, the information communicated to computing device 190 is the identity of the user 282 and one or more of the personal information 166 described above.
In use, application 164 on cell phone 160 can scan images of certifications accomplished by person(s) to add to the database, such as storing information in computing device 190 indicating that a person 280 has the scanned certification. Person(s) 280, such as managers 284, can view certifications of other person(s) 280 on cell phone 160, such as via cell phone 160 communicating with computing device 190 and/or cell phone 160 communicating with a user profile tag 140. Thus, managers 284 can quickly track and verify if person(s) 280 in the field have the proper certification (e.g., are they boom lift certified?). In use, computing device 190 can track the expirations of certifications and alert persons 280, such as manager 284 and/or user 282, when a certification has expired and/or is about to expire.
Referring to FIG. 5, if user 282 experiences a medical issue, such as fainting on the ground, a person 280 can use their cell phone 160 to scan user profile tag 140 of user 282. Then, the cell phone 160 of person 280 will display to person 280 one or more aspects of personal information 166 of user 282, thereby facilitating the ability of person 280 to help user 282. For example, if user 282 is epileptic and experiencing an epileptic episode, the person 280 can provide the appropriate assistance to user 282, such as making sure the user 282 is not in danger from nearby objects. Further, the personal information 166 obtained from user tag 140 can be shared with emergency medical technicians (EMTs) when they arrive to assist user 282.
In various embodiments, user profile tag 140, user profile tag 240, and user profile tag 260 are configured to electronically identify, via being electronically scanned, the person wearing hard hat 300 that user profile tag 140, user profile tag 240, or user profile tag 260 is coupled to. In various embodiments, user profile tag 140, user profile tag 240, and user profile tag 260 are configured to provide, via being electronically scanned, medical information about the person wearing hard hat 300 that user profile tag 140, user profile tag 240, or user profile tag 260 is coupled to. In various embodiments, user profile tag 140, user profile tag 240, and user profile tag 260 are configured to provide, via being electronically scanned, one or more certifications owned by the person wearing hard hat 300 that user profile tag 140, user profile tag 240, or user profile tag 260 is coupled to.
Referring to FIGS. 6-8, user profile tag(s) 140 for persons 280 can be scanned by a person 280, such as a manager 284. This series of actions can be performed to take attendance, the results of which may be displayed on cell phone 160 of manager 284 (FIG. 7 and FIG. 8). The attendance information can also be communicated to a remote computing device 190, such as a server. The attendance of person(s) 280 can be tracked, and an alert can be sent to manager 284 if a person 280 misses a critical meeting, such as a safety training meeting. Further, the attendance of person(s) 280 at meetings can be stored for later access.
Referring to FIG. 9, user profile tag 140 and/or computing device 190 can store information about person(s) 280, such as user 282. As one example, user profile tag 140 and/or computing device 190 can store information regarding which certification(s) person(s) 280 have obtained.
Referring to FIGS. 10-13, various aspects of user profile tag 240 are shown. User profile tag 240 is substantially the same as user profile tag 140 except for the differences discussed herein.
User profile tag 240 is coupled to hard hat 300, such as to one of slots 338 of hard hat 300. In particular, clip 248 of user profile tag 240 detachably and rigidly couples to slot 338 of hard hat 300. User profile tag 240 includes base 242 coupled to cap 246, with electronics 244 between base 242 and cap 246. In various embodiments, user profile tag 240 and cell phone 160 send wireless communications 142 to each other. In various embodiments, user profile tag 240 and/or user profile tag 140 are rigidly coupled to a slot 338 of hard hat 300. In various embodiments, user profile tag 240 and/or user profile tag 140 are mechanically and reversibly rigidly coupled to a slot 338 of hard hat 300. In various embodiment, electronics 244 is rigidly coupled to the base 242, and the electronics 244 is configured to electronically identify, via being electronically scanned, a person wearing the protective apparel that user profile tag 240 is coupled to. Connection tab 250, coupled to base 242, is configured to rigidly couple base 242 to protective apparel, such as hard hat 300. Engagement surface 252 is configured to face upward and engage against a surface of hard hat 300 when the connection tab 250 is extending through a slot 338, 342. Connection tab 250 is configured to be rigidly and mechanically reversibly coupled the base 242 to hard hat 300.
Clip 248 of user profile tab 240 further includes a connection tab 250 extending downward (in the orientation shown in FIG. 12) from clip 248 and through either front slot 338 or rear slot 342 when user profile tag 240 is coupled to hard hat 300. The connection tab 250 acts as an anchor for the user profile tag 240.
When connection tab 250 of clip 248 is inserted into one of front slots 338 or rear slots 342, resting surface 254 of user profile tag 240 interfaces against supporting surface 344 of hard hat 300 so that hard hat 300 supports user profile tag 240. Further, connection tab 250 defines an engagement surface 252 that faces upward (in the orientation shown in FIG. 12) and that engages a downward facing surface 346 of the hard hat 300 when connection tab 250 of clip 248 is inserted into and extending through one of front slots 338 or rear slots 342, thereby rigidly coupling user profile tag 240 and hard hat 300.
In this way, user profile tag 240 can be detachably rigidly coupled to one of front slots 338 or rear slots 342 at the same time with other objects/hard hat accessories coupled to one or more of front slots 338, central slots 340, rear slots 342, front mounting ridge 356, and/or rear mounting ridge 366. This arrangement allows multiple accessories to be coupled to hard hat 300 at different locations on hard hat 300 while user profile tag 240 is also coupled to one of slots 338 and 342. As a result, the user can select which accessories, such as user profile tag 240, to couple to hard hat 300, and in which slots 338, 340, 342 to couple the accessories.
Referring to FIG. 14, various aspects of user profile tag 260 are shown. User profile tag 260 is substantially the same as user profile tag 140 or user profile tag 240 except for the differences discussed herein.
In particular, user profile tag 260 includes adhesive 262 that rigidly adheres user profile tag 260 to an object. As one example, adhesive 262 can be used to couple user profile tag 260 to shell 312 of hard hat 300. In various embodiments, user profile tag 260 is rigidly coupled to hard hat 300 via adhesive 262.
Referring to FIGS. 15-16, various aspects of a protective work or construction helmet, shown as hard hat 300, are shown according to an exemplary embodiment. Hard hat 300 includes an shell 312. In a specific embodiment, shell 312 is formed from a rigid material, such as a rigid polymer material. In various specific embodiments, shell 312 is formed from one of high density polyethylene (HDPE), acrylonitrile-butadine-styrene (ABS), polycarbonate (PC), polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadine-styrene (PC-ABS), and polypropylene (PP). Shell 312 includes an exterior surface 314 and an interior surface. The interior surface defines a cavity sized to receive a head of a user and/or wearer (e.g., user 282).
Shell 312 further includes a plurality of apertures or vents 334. Vents 334 extend through shell 312 providing fluid communication between the cavity and the ambient air proximate to exterior surface 314 of shell 312.
Shell 312 includes a crown portion 322 and a bottom segment 324 defining a lower circumference of hard hat 300. In various embodiments, a brim 326 extends radially outward from a portion of the lower circumference. In a specific embodiment, brim 326 extends radially outward from the front 328 of hard hat 300 and specifically shell 312.
Hard hat 300 includes one or more mounting ridges configured to couple to and/or support hard hat accessories. A side accessory support ridge or auxiliary mounting ridge 336 is coupled to a lateral side of shell 312 along the bottom segment 324. Auxiliary mounting ridge 336 includes a first end and a second end opposing the first end. A plurality of apertures or slots 338 are positioned along auxiliary mounting ridge 336 between the first end and the second end. Slots 338 are configured to receive a coupling mechanism, such as clips, or a portion of a hard hat accessory to couple the accessory to shell 312. Auxiliary mounting ridge 336 supports accessories for hard hat 300, such as car muffs, tool or eyeglass holders, lamp supports, face shields, and/or reflectors, etc.
Hard hat 300 further includes a front mounting ridge 356 positioned on the front 328 of shell 312. Front mounting ridge includes a right edge 358 protruding outwardly from the front mounting ridge 356 and a left edge 360 opposing the right edge 358 and protruding outwardly from the front mounting ridge 356. In a specific embodiment, front mounting ridge 356 includes a detent 362 positioned between the right edge 358 and the left edge 360 and configured to interface with an accessory mounting bracket (see e.g., FIG. 1) and/or an accessory. The right edge 358 and left edge 360 of the front mounting ridge 356 each extend toward the bottom segment 324 of the shell 312. The right edge 358 and left edge 360 each include a portion with an increased width as the right edge 358 and left edge 360 approach the bottom segment and/or the brim 326.
In various embodiments, the hard hat 300 includes a second or rear mounting ridge 366 located along at the rear 368 of the hard hat 300. This allows a user to attach accessories and/or accessory mounting brackets to both the front 328 and rear 368 of hard hat 300. Rear mounting ridge 336 is substantially the same as front mounting ridge 356.
Referring to FIG. 17, various aspects of a user utilizing user profile tag 240 are shown. In particular, a user can obtain a lanyard 270 with a clip 272 and attach the lanyard 270 to the body of the user, such as around the neck of the user. The user can then couple a user profile tag 240 to clip 272 of lanyard 270, thereby enabling the user to easily carry the user profile tag 240 on their body in a fashion that is easily accessible to both the user and other people.
Referring to FIG. 18, various aspects of computer system 290 for utilizing protective equipment system 110 are shown. In particular, computer system 290 depicts individuals that may be in the field (e.g., on a worksite), such as a general contractor, a subcontractor, and/or a user. Computer system 290 also depicts a central computer support system, which may include a server, a data base, an application for managing the data and interactions, and an API for interacting with the central computer support system. Computer system 290 also depicts users that may interact with the system remotely, such as in the office or at home, such as a general contractor, a subcontractor, a user, and/or others.
In various embodiments, user profile tag 140, user profile tag 240, and/or user profile tag 260 are waterproof, UV resistant, and/or able to withstand jobsite abuse, such as falls or impacts. In various embodiments, user profile tag 140, user profile tag 240, and/or user profile tag 260 include an externally visible identification, such as a ID number and/or a QR code. In various embodiments, user profile tag 140, user profile tag 240, and/or user profile tag 260 are integrated into apparel, such as hard hat 300 (e.g., integrally molded with hard hat 300).
Referring to FIG. 19, various aspects of method 400 of using one or more embodiments described herein are provided. Starting at step 402, a user obtains a user profile tag, such as user profile tag 140, user profile tag 240, or user profile tag 260. The user optionally couples the user profile tag to an object on the person, such as protective apparel, such as coupling the user profile tag to a hard hat (e.g., hard hat 300) worn by the user. In various embodiments, the user profile tag is rigidly coupled to a hard hat, such as via an adhesive (e.g., user profile tag 260 in FIG. 14). In various embodiments, the user profile tag is rigidly coupled to a hard hat (e.g., user profile tag 140 or user profile tag 240 in FIGS. 10-12).
At step 404, a user pairs an electronic device, shown as cell phone 160, with the user profile tag coupled to a protective apparel being worn by a user (e.g., see FIG. 3). In various embodiments, the user profile tag is paired with the electronic device via the user profile tag being scanned, such as electronically scanned.
At step 406, a user uses electronic device, such as cell phone 160, to store one or more pieces of data on the user profile tag. In various embodiments, after pairing cell phone 160 with the user profile tag, the user enters information into the cell phone 160, which then communicates the information to the user profile tag, which then stores the information. In various embodiments, the information includes one or more of information identifying the user, certification(s) obtained by the user, and medical information about the user. In various embodiments, the information is first displayed on cell phone 160 before being communicated to and ultimately stored on the user profile tag.
At step 408, the user profile tag is scanned, such as electronically scanned, to obtain information about the person wearing the user profile tag. In various embodiments, the user profile tag is scanned by a scanner (e.g., scanner 180 in FIG. 4) and/or a personal electronic device, such as cell phone 160 (see FIG. 5). In various embodiments, the information is displayed on cell phone 160 after the cell phone 160 scans the user profile tag.
In various embodiments, the information obtained from the user profile tag includes medical information about the user wearing the user profile tag. In various embodiments, the information obtained from the user profile tag identifies one or more certifications obtained by the user wearing the user profile tag.

Such joining may be permanent in nature or alternatively may be removable or releasable in nature.
While the current application recites particular combinations of features in the claims appended hereto, various embodiments of the invention relate to any combination of any of the features described herein whether or not such combination is currently claimed, and any such combination of features may be claimed in this or future applications. Any of the features, elements, or components of any of the exemplary embodiments discussed above may be used alone or in combination with any of the features, elements, or components of any of the other embodiments discussed above.
In various exemplary embodiments, the relative dimensions, including angles, lengths and radii, as shown in the Figures are to scale. Actual measurements of the Figures will disclose relative dimensions, angles and proportions of the various exemplary embodiments. Various exemplary embodiments extend to various ranges around the absolute and relative dimensions, angles and proportions that may be determined from the Figures. Various exemplary embodiments include any combination of one or more relative dimensions or angles that may be determined from the Figures. Further, actual dimensions not expressly set out in this description can be determined by using the ratios of dimensions measured in the Figures in combination with the express dimensions set out in this description.
1. A protective equipment system comprising:
a hard hat configured to be worn by a person; and
a user profile tag coupled to the hard hat, the user profile tag configured to electronically identify, via being scanned, the person wearing the hard hat.
2. The protective equipment system of claim 1, wherein the user profile tag is rigidly coupled to the hard hat.
3. The protective equipment system of claim 2, wherein the user profile tag is coupled to the hard hat via an adhesive.
4. The protective equipment system of claim 2, wherein the user profile tag is rigidly coupled to a slot defined by the hard hat.
5. The protective equipment system of claim 4, wherein the user profile tag is mechanically and reversibly rigidly coupled to the slot.
6. The protective equipment system of claim 4, the user profile tag comprising a connection tab that extends downward and through the slot of the hard hat.
7. The protective equipment system of claim 6, the connection tab defining an engagement surface that faces upward and engages against a surface of the hard hat when the connection tab is extending through the slot of the hard hat.
8. The protective equipment system of claim 1, wherein the user profile tag is configured to electronically identify, via being electronically scanned, the person wearing the hard hat.
9. The protective equipment system of claim 1, wherein the user profile tag is configured to provide, via being electronically scanned, medical information about the person wearing the hard hat.
10. The protective equipment system of claim 1, wherein the user profile tag is configured to provide, via being electronically scanned, one or more certifications obtained by the person wearing the hard hat.
11. A method of using a user profile tag comprising:
pairing a personal electronic device to a user profile tag coupled to a protective apparel being worn by a user; and
using the personal electronic device to store one or more pieces of data relating to the user on the user profile tag.
12. The method of claim 11, comprising coupling the user profile tag to the protective apparel.
13. The method of claim 12, wherein the user profile tag is coupled to the protective apparel via adhesive.
14. The method of claim 11, comprising rigidly and mechanically reversibly coupling the user profile tag to the protective apparel, wherein the protective apparel is a hard hat.
15. The method of claim 11, comprising electronically scanning the user profile tag to obtain information about the user wearing the user profile tag.
16. The method of claim 15, wherein the information comprises medical information about the user wearing the user profile tag.
17. The method of claim 15, wherein the information identifies one or more certifications obtained by the user wearing the user profile tag.
18. A user profile tag comprising:
a base;
a connection tab coupled to the base, the connection tab configured to rigidly couple the base to a protective apparel; and
electronics rigidly coupled to the base, the electronics configured to electronically identify, via being electronically scanned, a person wearing the protective apparel.
19. The user profile tag of claim 18, where the protective apparel is a hard hat, the connection tab defining an engagement surface configured to face upward and engage against a surface of the hard hat when the connection tab is extending through a slot of the hard hat.
20. The user profile tag of claim 18, where the protective apparel is a hard hat, and wherein the connection tab is configured to rigidly and mechanically reversibly couple the base to the hard hat.
