Traditional barrels utilized for storage and transportation are typically rigid and occupy significant space, even when empty. These conventional barrels, often constructed from materials such as metal or rigid plastic, do not permit compact storage when not in use. This results in inefficient use of storage space and increased transportation costs, as empty barrels occupy the same volume as filled ones.
There is an escalating need for a more efficient solution to these limitations. A collapsible barrel, which can be conveniently stored and transported when not in use, would substantially reduce storage space requirements and transportation costs. Additionally, such a barrel must be durable, lightweight, and easy to handle to meet the demands of various industries, including agriculture, manufacturing, retail, and logistics.
The present invention addresses these needs by introducing a collapsible corrugated plastic barrel. This barrel is engineered to collapse inwardly towards its base, thereby facilitating compact storage and easy transportation. Fabricated from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the barrel is both durable and lightweight. The corrugated design of the barrel provides additional rigidity when in use, while the flexible nature of the material allows for easy collapsing. The barrel also includes a detachable lid and locking mechanisms to secure the contents during storage and transport.
The present invention pertains to a collapsible corrugated plastic barrel, designed for efficient storage, packing, and transportation of various goods. The barrel is constructed from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), providing durability, impact resistance, and chemical resistance. It features a cylindrical body with a corrugated structure, a top portion, and a detachable lid.
Material: The barrel is fabricated from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), molded using structural foam to enhance durability and strength.
The present invention pertains to the field of collapsible containers, and more specifically, to a collapsible corrugated plastic barrel designed for the efficient storage, packing, and transportation of various goods.
Collapsible containers made from various materials, including corrugated plastic, are well-known in the industry. Traditional collapsible corrugated boxes and cartons, typically made of paperboard, feature vertical side walls and top and bottom flaps for forming closures. These containers often incorporate score lines or hinge lines to facilitate folding and unfolding.
Several patents disclose collapsible containers made from corrugated plastic. For instance, U.S. Pat. No. 6,102,279, describes a collapsible corrugated plastic box with improved hinge line configurations and handholds. This invention provides a plastic box that can be easily collapsed for return shipment and reuse. Another example, U.S. Pat. No. 6,257,484, discloses a collapsible corrugated plastic box with tear-resistant handholds, enhancing the durability and usability of the container.
While these prior art references offer valuable insights into the design and functionality of collapsible corrugated plastic containers, they do not address the specific needs and features of a collapsible corrugated plastic barrel as described in the present invention. The current invention offers a unique combination of features, including a cylindrical body with a corrugated structure for enhanced rigidity, a base portion, a top portion, and a detachable lid.
The design allows the barrel to collapse inward.

FIG. 5:
FIGS. 6 & 7:
1. A collapsible corrugated plastic barrel, comprising: a) a cylindrical body member configured to hold contents, the body member having a plurality of corrugations that allow it to collapse inwardly into a reduced-volume configuration; b) a cover configured to engage an upper circumference of the body member to enclose the contents, the cover being operable between an open position and a closed position; and c) a locking mechanism, including a sealing ring positioned on the cover, the locking mechanism being configured to secure the cover to the body member and thereby lock the contents within the barrel.
2. The collapsible corrugated plastic barrel of claim 1, wherein the plurality of corrugations is configured to provide structural rigidity when the barrel is deployed and flexibility when it is collapsed, the collapsed state being characterized by the body member moving inwardly toward a base portion.
3. The collapsible corrugated plastic barrel of claim 1, wherein the locking mechanism further comprises an interlocking feature that engages a complementary structure on the body member when the cover is in the closed position.
