Smart Summary: A bed-top adjustable bench press can be used for weightlifting exercises on a bed and can be hung on a wall when not needed. It has two boards, one on top and one on the bottom, connected by a hinge at one end. An adjustment bar is attached to the top board to help set the height. The bottom board has three blocks that hold the adjustment bar when the bench is open for use. This design makes it easy to store and use the bench press in small spaces. 🚀 TL;DR

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Embodiments of the present disclosure may provide a bed-top adjustable bench press that may be placed on a bed for use in exercise and hung on the wall or otherwise stored when not in use. The bed-top adjustable bench press may be adjustable to varying angles. While the bed-top adjustable bench press is described as being placed on a bed for use, it should be appreciated that the adjustable bench press may be placed on other flat surfaces, including, but not limited to, the floor, without departing from the present disclosure.

As described herein, the bed-top adjustable bench press according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may be provided as an adjustable weightlifting cabinet that may be constructed of wood. However, other types of sturdy materials may be used without departing from the present disclosure. The cabinet may be formed using two base boards that may be 12″ in width, 2′ in length, and 2″ in height in an embodiment of the present disclosure. While certain dimensions are provided herein, other dimensions to make the cabinet larger or smaller may be used without departing from the present disclosure. The two base boards may be secured to one another using two hinges in an embodiment of the present disclosure. A frame may be formed using four sticks that may be 12″ in width, 2′ in length, and ½″ height and four sticks that may be 12″ in width and 9″ in length in an embodiment of the present disclosure. However, it should be appreciated that the dimensions of the sticks forming the frame may be adjusted depending on the dimensions of the cabinet in embodiments of the present disclosure. The frame may be secured around each of the base boards, and each of the framed base boards may be attached to one another with the two hinges.

The bed-top adjustable bench press may include three blocks. The blocks may have dimensions of 1½″×1½″ in an embodiment of the present disclosure; however, it should be appreciated that these dimensions may be altered if the cabinet is larger or smaller than the dimensions identified herein. These blocks may each be attached to one of the base boards using #10×2¼ inch screws. While three blocks are provided for herein, it should be appreciated that more or fewer blocks may be provided depending on the number of levels of adjustment in embodiments of the present disclosure. The blocks may be secured to the base board spaced apart from one another at least a distance equal to or greater than the thickness of the adjustment bar in an embodiment of the present disclosure.

An adjustable arm may be provided and may be formed of an approximately 18″ long stick that may be held using two 1½″ inch blocks which may be brackets in an embodiment of the present disclosure. The adjustment arm may have a hole drilled in one end, and the other end may be cut twice on two sides at an angle. There may be two adjustment arm brackets with a hole in each that may be glued down or otherwise fastened. A #10×2½″ screw may be used to brace the adjustment arm setup (i.e., to hold the arm and the brackets together).

FIG. 3 depicts a bottom view of a bed-top adjustable bench press according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. As depicted herein, adjustment bar 202 may be secured in between brackets/blocks 310a, 310b on base board 204. Frame 311 is depicted as surrounding base board 204 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

The bed-top adjustable bench press also may include a padded back rest as well as a handle that may allow the bed-top adjustable bench press to be hung on a wall when not in use. The back rest may be sized as 1′×2′ in an embodiment of the present disclosure; however, the back rest may be larger or smaller depending on the size of the cabinet. The handle may be attached to the base board using two #6×½″ screws in an embodiment of the present disclosure.

FIG. 1 depicts a bed-top adjustable bench press in a hanging position according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. As depicted herein, bench press 10 may include handle 101. A hook or other fastening mechanism may be provided on the wall and handle 101 may be placed on the hook or other fastening mechanism to keep bench press 10 off the floor when not in use. In an embodiment of the present disclosure, the bench press may be hung in a closet so that it may be out of sight when not in use.

FIG. 5 depicts a close-up view of a portion of a bed-top adjustable bench press according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. As depicted herein, hinge 403 is attached to frame 411 of the bench press. Magnet 505 may be positioned to help in keeping the bench press closed when not in use. Handle 101 may be secured to frame 411 or another portion of the bench press in an embodiment of the present disclosure.

A monkey magnet may be attached to the inside of the lid of the base boards that have been secured to one another to form the cabinet. While monkey magnets are described herein, it should be appreciated that other types of magnets or securing mechanisms may be used without departing from the present disclosure. A total of six magnets may be used to keep the cabinet closed when not in use. These magnets may be dimensioned as follows: 40×10×5 mm. However, other dimensions or more or fewer magnets may be used without departing from the present disclosure.

FIG. 4 depicts a bed-top adjustable bench press in a closed position according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. More specifically, bench press 10 may be closed using hinges 403. When closed, padded back rest 206 may be visible; however, in other configurations, padded back rest 206 may not be visible in a closed position.

To use the bed-top adjustable bench press, the bench press cabinet may be placed on a bed or other flat surface. It may be opened, and the adjustment bar may be adjusted to a desired elevation angle. FIG. 2 depicts bed-top adjustable bench press 10 in an open position on a bed according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. Base board 203 may be elevated into an angled position relative to base board 204 using adjustment bar 202. The angle of base board 203 may be adjusted by moving adjustment bar 202 to one of blocks 205. A workout using the bed-top adjustable bench press may then commence, eliminating the need for floor space associated with a traditional bench press bench. The user may place his/her head and a portion of his/her back onto padded back rest 206 during the workout. FIG. 6 depicts a user employing the bed-top adjustable bench press according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The angled base board of the bench press is covered by the user's head and upper back when the bench press is in use. Adjustment bar 202 has been placed in between the first and second of blocks 205; however, the user may adjust position of adjustment bar 202 during the workout as he/she desires.

Although the present disclosure and its advantages have been described in detail, it should be understood that various changes, substitutions and alterations can be made herein without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure as defined by the appended claims. Moreover, the scope of the present application is not intended to be limited to the particular embodiments of the process, machine, manufacture, composition of matter, means, methods and steps described in the specification.
